5 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 Burgundy 2010 Domaines M - Q Date & place of tasting shown in italics Domaine des Malandes Chablis Chablis Tasted at the Charles Hawkins tasting January 2012 It is very heavy with sweet fruit filling out the nose and giving fleshy richness on the palate. Although there is a mineral freshness towards the back it is not enough to really refresh. Chablis Vieilles Vignes Cuvée Tour de Roy Tasted at the Charles Hawkins tasting January 2012 The nose has lots of sweet fruit and the sweetness gives richness on the mid palate. There is some mineral and lime on the mid palate which helps to refresh but the fleshy sweetness comes through giving a heavy feel to the finish. Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru Tasted at the Union des Grands Crus de Chablis Tasting London January 2012 The nose is very heavy full of sweet fruit and this fleshiness is very much in evidence on the palate. There is some freshness towards the back not really enough to give any crispness. Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru Tasted at the Union des Grands Crus de Chablis Tasting London January 2012 There is a lot of rich fruit on the nose more apricot than greengage. The mid palate has a balancing freshness some lime and apple but the back palate is very heavy. 6 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Tasted at Farr Vintners tasting Boodles London April 2014 Tasted at the Farr tasting Boodles April 2015 There is a light fragrant redcurrant charm about the nose and the palate although light has a nice mix of flavours mulberry and bramble. It fills out towards the back but the finish is light and fresh. Domaine Mestre-Michelot Meursault Meursault Casse-Têtes Tasted at the Carlton Club July 2013 There is a honeyed richness about the fruit on both nose and palate lots of ripe melon and plum all supported by chalky citrus. Layers of flavour give complexity fresh flavours then richer sweeter flavours with the fruit lingering on the finish. Salmon would not overpower and there is enough flavour for meats such as turkey Domaine Louis Michel Chablis Chablis The fruit on the nose is sweet giving it richness but the palate has a mineral and lime freshness in the middle. Towards the back the ripeness, sweetness of the fruit takes over giving a richer feel to the back palate. Chablis 1er Cru Fôrets There is a racy freshness on the nose with lots of apple and mineral. The palate is richer with nice sweet fruit and this gives a fleshy richness towards the back. The finish mirrors the nose crisp with smoky mineral and slate. 7 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 Tasted at Lincoln s Inn February 2012 Black cherry and bramble give richness on the nose and a sweet start to the palate. The flesh of wild strawberry is balanced by the freshness of redcurrant and cherry but the back palate is richer with more of a black fruit influence. Try it with pork and lamb a great pairing. Domaine de Montille Volnay Beaune 1er Cru Grèves The nose is fragrant but very light and there is not a great weight of fruit on the start of the palate. The middle is richer and although the fruit at the back feels ripe there is no great depth. Domaine Bernard Moreau Chassagne-Montrachet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru les Maltroie The nose has some rich fruit and the ripeness gives flesh on the start of the palate. The richness is balanced by freshness but there is sweet fruit at the back giving richness on the finish. Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot The fruit on the nose is sweet and ripe filling it out and giving richness on the palate. Under the ripe greengage and melon there is a mix of lime and apple that refreshes and lifts the flavours on the finish. Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes There is a good mix of flavours ripe fleshy strawberry and fresher bramble. The fruit in the mid palate is sweet, rich lovely and fleshy but towards the back the back there is some balancing freshness. 8 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Chablis There is a firm flinty feel to the nose and a crisp start on the palate. Richer fruit gives some weight on the mid palate but the overall feel is one of firmness and a flinty racy character. Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon Cuvée Guy Moreau The richness of the nose is apparent on the palate with a mix of apricot and greengage. The ripeness of the fruit fills out the mid palate but there is enough citric and slate freshness to balance and lift the flavours on the finish. Chablis Valmur Grand Cru There is lovely depth of fruit on the nose with rich ripe flavours fleshing out the mid palate. Under the fruit power there is a mix of apple and lime that refreshes balances and gives a racier feel to the finish. Chablis Clos Grand Cru Apple and lime backed by a hint of apricot gives lots of interest on the nose and complexity on the palate. The mid palate has a good weight of fruit lovely and ripe all quite fleshy but at the back there is freshness balancing and lifting the flavours on the finish. Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis Chablis This is the richer style of Chablis with lots of greengage on the nose and some sweet fruit on the palate. The fleshiness is balanced by the underlying fresh fruits and the mineral that comes through towards the back gives a crisper feel to the finish. Chablis 1er Cru Montmains The nose is packed with rich fruit and the ripeness gives flesh on the palate. There is enough underlying mineral and apple to balance, refresh the back palate and lift the fruit on the finish. 9 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 The fruit is rich and there is good depth of flavour on the palate. The depth fleshiness at the start and in the middle is underpinned by freshness apple and citrus with chalk and flint giving crispness on the finish. Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes Tasted at the Carlton Club January 2013 The fruit sweetness tends to be dominated by lime and flint giving crispness on the nose. There are sweeter flavours in the middle but the back palate is very fresh the lime and flint giving a slightly hard feel to the finish. Domaine J Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale There is a mass of deep brooding black fruits on the nose lovely rich and sweet fruited. The mid suppleness is enhanced by ripe rounded tannins and this combined with fruit ripeness gives fleshy richness towards the back. The complexity comes from the layers of flavour from the mix of black fruits. Domaine Mugnier-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée Vosne-Romanée The nose is deep with some lovely rich black fruit and their ripeness gives fleshy richness on the mid palate. 10 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots There are a lot of powerful flavours on the nose and the ripeness of the fruit enriches the palate. Black fruits tend to overshadow the red filling out the mid palate and giving a fleshy sweetness towards the back. There is enough underlying mulberry to refresh. Domaine Niellon Chassagne-Montrachet Chassagne-Montrachet The nose is full fat and quite fleshy and the sweetness of the fruit enriches the palate. Greengage and melon are to the fore with behind citrus and apple that refreshes and lifts the flavours on the finish. Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champ Gain Tasted at Farr Vintners May 2015 Rich and ripe on the nose the start of the palate is sweet with ripe greengage. Under the sweet fruit apple gives freshness the back plate lighter but it fills out on the finish fleshy and rich. Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chenevottes The fruit feels ripe giving depth of flavour on the nose and richness on the palate. There are layers of fruit giving complexity with the fleshy greengage underpinned by mineral and citrus refreshing the back palate and finish. Domaine Odoul-Cocquard Morey-Saint-Denis Bourgogne Rouge The red fruited mix gives freshness on the nose and a bright start to the palate. The mid palate is rich with a mix of mulberry and blackberry the ripeness of the fruit filling out mid and back palate. The finish has a nice weight of rich fruit. 11 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 The nose has a lot of rich fruit serious profound and black fruited. Under the power that is very much in evidence at the start there is bilberry and blackberry freshness layers of black fruits all helping complexity. The fruit lasts well on the back palate. Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes Although the nose has a lot of rich ripe fruit there is underneath the freshness of red fruits. The palate mirrors the nose with rich fruit at the start but the mid palate has freshness coming from a mix of black and red fruits raspberry and bilberry. There are layers of flavour lots of complexity with a racy fresh finish. Gevrey-Chambertin There is a lovely rustic earthiness about the nose and the black fruited mix is there on the palate. The tannins are firm giving a structured backbone but under the firmness there is the sweetness of ripe black and red fruits. The structure tends, at the moment, to hold back full fruit expression. Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes It is lean and racy with black cherry and bilberry very much to the fore. The palate feels richer with sweeter flavours the richness supported by firm but ripe tannins. Black fruits seem to dominate both back palate and finish. Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Saints Jacques The black cherry on the nose is rich and this gives weight richness on the palate. The mid palate has a mix of flavours with the black fruits appearing to dominate but behind there are some lovely red all slightly fresher. The finish feels lighter with the flavours lasting well on the finish. Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Argillats The nose has a lovely depth of fruit with richness of flavour power depth and concentration. The palate is mainly black fruit in character with layers of flavour ripe blackcurrant backed by black cherry both underpinned by fresher bilberry. Ripe tannins help the suppleness the fleshy richness filling out the back palate. Morey-Sainr-Denis Les Crais Gillon The nose has more of a black then red fruit influence richness underpinned by some freshness. The fruit in the middle is ripe the sweetness filling it out with the rounded tannins giving a fleshy suppleness. 12 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Morey-Saint-Denis Aux Chéseaux The nose has more of a red fruit influence bright and fresh. Red cherry features on the palate the freshness underpinned by richer sweeter fruit some red fruits strawberry but also some bramble and blueberry. The tannins are supple helping to enrich the finish. Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos La Riotte The fruit on the nose is deep profound sweet and rich. There is a lot happening on the palate with rich black fruits underpinned by some fresher red the layers of flavour giving complexity. The back palate is packed with ripe fruit the richness filling it out. Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes There is a lovely fragrance about the nose floral fresh red fruits backed by richer more serious black. Bramble and black cherry on the palate mingle with red cherry and mulberry the freshness balancing the black fruited richness. There is mid concentration with a lighter more elegant feel on the back palate and finish. Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru The nose is power driven packed with rich ripe fruit. At first the black fruits are very much in evidence but there are red fruits underneath their freshness balancing the serious black fruited richness. The back palate if full of fruit with lots of black cherry and blueberry in evidence their sweetness helping to enrich the back palate. Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Although the nose is full of rich fruit the black fruited power is balanced by some fresher red fruits. The palate has layers of flavour like the nose the sweet rich black fruits underpinned by fresher red. Rounded tannins give suppleness in the middle and richness towards the back but the red fruits that come through on the finish help to ensure elegance. 13 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 There is a nice mix of flavours on the nose with the rich greengage backed by fresher apple. The palate mirrors the nose rich fruit underpinned by freshness with the fruit lasting well on the finish. Santenay Tasted in the Guildhall July 2012 Melon gives a lovely richness on the nose and a fleshy start to the palate. Under the rich fruit greengage and melon is cut apple which refreshes and balances and lifts the fruit on the back palate and lengthens the finish. Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc 1er Cru Clos Saint-Marc The nose has some lovely rich fruit and this gives weight on the start of the palate. Behind it is fresher with citrus acidity and mineral but the melon on the back palate fills it out. Meursault Les Clous Tasted at Mercers Hall October 2012 The fruit on the nose has a honeyed sweetness and the richness of greengage and melon gives flesh on the palate. Towards the back it is fresher with lots of apple and mineral but the sweet fruit comes through on the finish. Meursault 1er Cru Blagny Sous Le Dos d Ane Both nose and palate is rich full of honeyed fruit slightly earthy but rich and sweet fruited. There is fresher feel on the mid palate but the richness sweetness gives fatness on the back palate and finish. Puligny-Montrachet Tasted at Mercers Hall October 2012 The nose is fresh fruited with mineral and shale crisp racy. Fresh apple and grapefruit are backed by richer flavours some melon and greengage but the freshness the apple and mineral show at the back giving a lovely fresh feel to the finish. Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières The chalky apple and lemon give crispness on the nose bringing out the fragrances. The mid palate is slightly richer but the finish has all the crispness of the nose. Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles The nose has richer fruit slightly earthy full fat greengage. Behind the sweet fruit on the palate there is a mineral chalky freshness that lightens the back palate but the finish is quite full and fat. 13 Master of Wine: Derek Smedley Master of Wine: Derek Smedley

14 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru There is a lot of rich fruit on the nose greengage to the fore. The fruit is ripe and rich packing out the palate with sweet melon giving a fleshy richness. There are layers of fruit giving complexity and a lovely citrus freshness towards the back that balances. Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Both nose and palate have depth of fruit rich and sweet. Melon and greengage enrich the mid palate all feeling ripe with the depth weight of fruit nicely balanced by apple freshness. Layers of flavour give complexity and although there is a lot of rich fruit at the back there is enough freshness to give an elegant feel to the finish. Pernand Vergelesses Rouge The mix of flavours on the nose is fragrant with the red fruits tending to dominate. The palate starts quite light but there is a richer feel towards the back although the finish tends to be lighter but fragrant. Volnay 1er Cru Mitans The hints of black fruits give quite a rich feel to both nose and palate. The mid palate has an attractive mix of flavours black fruits underpinned by fresher red and it is the red fruited freshness that shows on the finish. Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots There is a lot of rich fruit on the nose and the dominance of black fruits enriches the palate. There is an underlying balancing freshness and this gives a lighter feel on the finish. Domaine Pagnotta Chagny Rully Blanc La Crée The nose is very sweet fruited quite fat and heavy and this ripe richness fleshes out the palate. There is lots of melon on the mid palate and this enriches the back palate and finish. There seems to be a lack of acidity to balance and refresh. Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 14

15 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 Mercurey Blanc La Bussière Rich ripe pineapple fills out the nose and gives a fleshy start to the palate. There is some fresh fruit under the richness which helps to balance the sweet flavours but the acidity seems a little out of balance leaving the finish rather heavy and slightly formless. Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune Rouge There is some sweet fruit on the nose all quite black fruit in character. The ripeness of the fruit gives a fleshy start on the palate then towards the middle and end the acidity comes through overtaking the richer fruit and giving a hard character on the back plate and tightness on the finish. Givry Champ-Lalot Hedgerow fruits feature on the nose with blackberries and wild strawberries on the palate. Under the sweetness there is a balancing freshness an attractive mix of flavours. Although there is a fair mix of fruit it tends to lack a bit of complexity. Mercurey 1er Cru Clos Voyens The nose has a nice weight of sweet ripe fruit with the black fruits intermingling with some red. The palate starts quite sweet but the tannins are firm and the back palate a bit hard and chewy lacking in real charm. Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière Red cherry and raspberry give freshness on the nose and on the palate. The tannins are firm quite grippy holding back and rather overpowering the fruit. Although there is a sweeter feel towards the back it lacks generosity. Santenay Les Cornières There is a good depth of fruit on the nose with power and weight on the start of the palate. Black fruits are to the fore quite sweet but the tannins are very firm a touch green and they overpower the fruit and hide the sweetness on the back palate. 16 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Saint-Véran Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting London January 2012 The nose is very lean and the palate rather tight. There is sweeter fruit showing towards the back but the finish lacks real depth. Pouilly-Vinzelles Tasted at Charles Taylor September 2013 The nose is fresh but light and the palate lean and mineral driven. There is some richer fruit towards the back but it finishes light flinty with citrus freshness. Domaine Jean Pascal Puligny-Montrachet Puligny-Montrachet Tasted at the Carlton Club May 2013 Apple and lime refresh the nose fragrant but light and the start of the palate lacks fruit richness. There is a bit more depth and richness towards the back but the finish is lean flinty lime fresh. Domaine Sylvain Pataille Marsannay Marsannay Cuvée la Combe Both nose and palate are very light and although they have some red fruits fragrances there a lack of richness and depth. Marsannay Clos du Roy Both nose and palate are very red fruit dominated and both lack depth and richness. The mix of flavours gives some complexity but the finish lacks a bit of richness. 17 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting London January 2012 Red fruits appear to dominate but behind are a mix of black. Black and red cherry give an attractive complex mix on the mid palate and as the fruit and tannins feel ripe there is richness and depth of flavour towards the back. Vosne-Romanée The nose is very fresh very red fruit dominated with lots of red cherry and raspberry. The mid palate has charm but is light and there is not great depth and richness towards the back. Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Perdrix Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting London January 2012 Powerful black fruits fill out the nose and give richness on the start of the palate. There are layers of flavour giving complexity rich black cherry backed by fresher mulberry a lovely complex mix. Although the tannins are still firm a lot of sweet fruit shows through at the back. Echézeaux Grand Cru Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting London January 2012 The nose is packed with brooding black fruits lovely and rich and this fruit power enriches the start of the palate. The tannins in the middle are quite firm but fine grained so not overpowering the fruit. The back palate has layers of flavour black fruits and red fruits lovely and complex. Domaine Pernod-Belicard Puligny-Montrachet Meursault This is the lighter style of Meursault quite fragrant but lacking a bit of depth and richness. Lime and apple give a lighter feel to the mid palate and refresh the finish. Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru les Perrières The nose is remarkably rich and fat with slightly earthy fruit. There is a fresher feel to the palate the citrus and apple backed by minerals and this gives a racier feel to the finish. 18 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Minerals and lime give a lovely freshness on the nose and crisp start to the palate. There is a slightly sweeter feel in the middle but both back palate and finish are a bit hard with lots of crisp green apple and mineral. Domaine Marie-Christine & Vincent Perrin Volnay Saint Romain There is a lovely depth of fruit on the nose lots of rich greengage. The fruit feels ripe fleshing out the palate the richness and depth balanced by some apple freshness that shows through towards the back. The mix of fruits lasts well on the back palate and long finish. Meursault L Ormeau Ripe fruit fills out the nose given an added richness and sweetness by the honey that lies beneath. Powerful fruit flavours enrich the mid palate the sweetness nicely balanced by the apple and lime that shows towards the back. The finish has all the sweet power of the nose. Volnay Cuvée Marie The nose has quite a red fruited influence but the fruit is ripe filling it out. There is depth of flavour on the palate ripe fruit and rounded tannins giving suppleness. The mainly bramble and black cherry on the mid palate is refreshed by the mulberry and loganberry that comes through towards the back. Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans The nose has an attractive mix of flavours with at first black fruits tending to come to the fore but then behind there is some fresher red. The fruit is ripe giving mid richness and as the tannins feel ripe there is a lovely supple fleshiness. Layers of flavour give complexity mulberry and strawberry intermingling with black fruits. The finish is full of concentrated flavours. Volnay 1er Cru La Gigotte (Monopole) There is a lovely breadth of flavour on the nose and the palate is packed with serious rich fruit. Concentrated black cherry is underpinned by fleshy mulberry and strawberry all giving depth with the richness being tempered by some freshness all beautifully balanced real potential for development. 19 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 Pommard Les Chanlins Haut The fruit feels ripe giving a rich fleshy feel to the nose and a rich start to the palate. The layers of flavour give complexity a lovely balance of ripe fruit and freshness. The concentrated sweet power towards the back is balanced by red fruited freshness with flavours lasting well on the finish. Domaine Gilbert Picq Chablis Chablis The nose has the racy crispness of the year and the palate is very fresh quite light but has attractive fragrances. The citrus towards the back is underpinned by slate and flint. Chablis 1er Cru Vosgros The racy mineral freshness is attractive bringing out the fragrances on the nose and the freshness on the palate. There is some rich quite sweet fruit in the middle with the citrus of the nose refreshing the finish. Pierre Andre Aloxe Corton Bourgogne Chardonnay Réserve Tasted at the Carlton Club September 2012 There is a pungent heaviness on the nose lots of apricot and greengage. The palate lacks depth of flavour the mid acidity is high giving a rather unbalanced feel and the finish is quite dry and short. The finish is long with depth of fruit yet showing the freshness of apple. The mix of flavours the sweet fruit yet freshness makes it an ideal companion to even the richest fish dishes and if you like white with poultry this is an ideal choice. Puligny-Montrachet Les Noyers Brets Tasted at the Carlton Club May 2013 The nose has a flinty lime driven freshness and palate is lean racy with lots of crispness and fresh fruit. Slightly sweeter in the middle there is just a hint of greengage but the fresh fruit the mineral and flint are there giving a lovely sleek finish. Santenay Les Prarons Dessus Tasted at Mercers Hall April 2013 The nose has an attractive minty quality and the mix of bramble and mulberry on the palate feels ripe. Under the sweet fruit there are fresher flavours that give a lovely bright feel to the finish. Ripe fruit gives richness on the mid palate a lovely weight of flavour but the flint and citrus mix is there at the back giving it a racy crispness and lengthening the flavours. Tasted at Dyers Hall January Tasted at Dyers Hall January 2015 Greengage and melon give fleshy richness on the nose and on the start of the palate. The sweeter fruit is balanced by mineral and lime. The back palate is flinty with lime and apple freshness. The rich fruit on the mid palate is backed by fresher apple and the mineral and citrus that shows towards the back gives a crisp feel to the finish. Mulberry and red cherry gives richness on the mid palate but behind this sweet fruit is raspberry freshness that lifts the flavours on the finish. Richer mulberry gives some weight on the mid palate and although the back palate and finish lack depth the red fruited mix is appealingly fragrant. The sweet fruited mix that fills out the mid palate is underpinned by freshness crisp apple and mineral lovely persistent flavours on the finish. Villa Ponciago Fleurie Fleurie Cuvée les Hauts du Puy Tasted at the Fells tasting September 2013 Red fruits dominate the nose fresh with a strong raspberry character. There is a richer feel on the mid palate more weight and depth at the back but still very much dominated by red fruits. Domaine de la Pousse d Or Volnay Chambolle-Musigny Tasted at the IWC Taste of Gold Lords June 2012 The ripeness of the mulberry and bramble mix gives a fleshy richness on both nose and palate. The tannins are ripe giving an extra suppleness but towards the back raspberry and bilberry refresh lightening the finish. Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées Tasted at the IWC Taste of Gold Lords June 2012 Ripe fruit gives a fleshy richness on the nose and fills out the palate. Black fruits seem to dominate but under the richness of the black mix there are red fruits that refresh balance and lighten the finish. 23 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 The nose is fragrant with very fresh red fruits and there is raspberry featuring on the start of the palate. The mid palate is light slightly sweeter in the middle but very fresh towards the back and lacking in fruit richness. Domaine Pascal Prunier-Bonheur Meursault St Romain Blanc la Combe Bazin The nose is quite sweet fruited and the palate starts with some rich flavours. Under the ripe fruit there is freshness but the sweetness of the fruit tends to dominate leaving the finish quite rich and fleshy. Monthélie les Toisières Rich greengage fills out the nose lovely powerful flavours. The mid palate is full of ripe fruit but the fleshy richness is nicely balanced by the freshness of lime and apple that lifts the flavours and gives a racy charm to the finish. Meursault les Grands Charrons There is a lot of honey on the nose lovely and rich and this sweetness fills out the palate. The fleshy melon and greengage is balanced by apple freshness but the honeyed ripeness is there at the back enriching the finish. Monthélie 1er Cru Les Vignes Rondes The mix of raspberry and wild strawberry has an overlaying fragrance. The fruit feels ripe gives richness on the palate and as the tannins are rounded the mid palate is supple. Fresher red fruits show towards the back giving the finish a lighter more elegant feel. Beaune 1er Cru les Sizies Although red fruits appear to dominate both nose and start of the palate they are ripe giving a fleshy richness. The ripeness of the fruit and rounded tannins give a supple lushness in the middle but there are enough raspberries in evidence to refresh and lighten the finish. Although slightly fuller at the back the finish is quite hard lacking in fruit richness. Sweeter fruit shows in the middle giving a little more depth but the back palate and finish are light with red fruit freshness.
