6 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2014 Burgundy 2014 Domaines R - Z Date & place of tasting in italics Growers / Wineries are in alphabetical order Domaine François Racquillet Mercurey Mercurey 1er Cru Les Vasées Tasted at the Lea & Sandeman tasting 67 Pall Mall January 2016 Raspberry and mulberry the nose is bright the palate fresh quite light. There is more depth in the middle sweeter fruit still very red fruit but at the back the fresh fruits dominate the finish is quite light. Domaine Jean Rijckaert Leynes Viré Clessé L Epinet Tasted at the Clarion tasting Middle Temple January 2016 Bright fresh the nose has a mix of citrus fruits the start of the palate crisp. There is mid depth some ripe greengage but the citrus fruits dominate the back palate the finish racy and fresh. Saint-Véran En Avonne Vieilles Vignes Tasted at the Clarion tasting Middle Temple January 2016 Bright on the nose the fruit on the start of the palate is fresh crisp apple and citrus. Rich and ripe in the middle ripe melon but citrus and flint dominates the back palate the finish is fresh. 7 BURGUNDY 2014 October 11, 2012 Depth on the nose the palate has a rich mix of black fruits. The sweet fruit on the mid palate is underpinned by fine tannins the back palate has depth richness the finish a mix of bramble and black cherry. Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux-Monts Sweet and ripe on the nose the start of the palate has a mix of rich fruits depth of flavour the ripe fruit underpinned by bramble freshness. The back palate is sweet with a mix of rich fruits and there is depth of flavour on the finish. Maison Roche de Bellene Beaune Echézeaux Grand Cru Although the nose is light and fresh the fruit on the palate is sweet and ripe depth of flavour in the middle. There is freshness at the back herbal spiciness fragrant and quite light but it fills out on the finish with the richness of ripe fruit. Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Bright fresh red fruits the nose has a raspberry redcurrant mix and the start of the palate is light. There is mid richness the red fruits underpinned by fleshy black supple and generous but at the back fresh fruits dominate the finish lighter with style and finesse. Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru The nose has a brooding depth black fruits dominate the fruit ripe and sweet. Fleshy and succulent on the mid palate rounded tannins adding to the suppleness. Depth at the back power and richness yet there is enough freshness to give a lighter stylish finish. Chambertin Grand Cru The nose has the richness and sweetness of ripe black fruits the palate starts fleshy and supple. The mid palate has firm tannins that hold back the fruit and the underlying freshness gives a lighter feel at the back but it does fill out on the finish with a mix of black fruits. 7 Master of Wine: Derek Smedley Master of Wine: Derek Smedley

8 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2014 Domaine Remi Rollin Pernand-Vergelesses Hautes Côtes de Beaune Crisp apple the nose is fresh the start of the palate bright citrus driven There is mid depth honeydew melon rich at the back the ripe fruit giving depth and sweetness on the finish. Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Île de Vergelesses Redcurrants and raspberries the fruit is fresh the nose bright and the start of the palate quite light. There is mid sweetness wild strawberry and red cherry and this fills out the back palate. The finish is lighter fresh and fragrant. Domaine Chantal Remy Morey-Saint-Denis Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos des Ormes The nose is very sweet the fruit ripe the palate has the richness of ripe black fruits. Supple in the middle the ripe fruit underpinned by a hint of freshness but it finishes with fleshy richness. Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Concentration and depth the nose is packed with sweet fruit the start of the palate has brooding power. There is mid balance fresher black fruits with the sweet fruit coming through and enriching the finish. Latricières- Chambertin Grand Cru Deep and brooding the nose has the richness of ripe black fruits the palate a powerful mix of flavours. Ripe tannins add to the suppleness but there is freshness a bramble bilberry mix lighter at the back the finish is long fragrant stylish. Chambertin Grand Cru Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 8

9 BURGUNDY 2014 October 11, 2012 The fruit is ripe yet the nose has a fragrant autumn hedgerow berry charm. Depth on the palate rich fruit generous and supple the tannins ripe and fine. Black cherry and black plum enrich the back palate and finish has depth and sweetness. Domaine Rossignol-Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin Beaune Les Mariages Fragrant and fresh the nose is quite light. The palate is richer with a mix of black fruits. The tannins support but feel ripe the back palate has depth the finish bramble freshness. Beaune 1er Cru Les Teurons Sweet and ripe on the nose the start of the palate lighter with fresh bramble and bilberry. There is mid richness ripe quite fleshy black fruits but bramble is there at the back lighter with a fragrant bright finish. Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Fragrant and fresh on the nose the palate has a mix of red and black fruits quite light in the middle. Sweet fruit at the back gives more depth but the finish is light fresh fruited with a fragrant charm. Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur Rich and ripe on the nose the start of the palate has depth of fruit with black fruits to the fore. Sweet and ripe in the middle the back palate is fresher firmer and lighter but it fills out on the finish with sweetness and depth. Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite-Chapelle Rich ripe black fruits on the nose the palate has depth and sweetness the rich fruit supported by fine tannins. There is an underlying brightness fresh bramble and bilberry but at the back ripe black cherry gives richness and depth. 10 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2014 The nose has a mix of fruits the start of the palate is bright and bramble fresh but it fills out in the middle with sweet fruit ripe and rich. Layers of fruit give complexity the sweet fruit the rich black cherry backed by bramble lighter at the back elegant with a long fragrant finish. Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru The nose has sweetness the palate depth the richness of ripe black cherry. There is an underlying freshness brighter at the back quite fragrant but the sweet fruit the rich black cherry is there giving depth on the finish. Chambertin Grand Cru Depth of fruit the nose has a concentrated mix of black and red fruits the palate is rich quite supple and fleshy. There is mid freshness red fruits bright at the back stylish and elegant yet it fills out on the finish with rich sweet ripe fruit. Domaine Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur Tasted at the Clarion tasting Middle Temple January 2016 The fruit is sweet the nose has depth a mix of black and red fruits. There is balancing freshness brightness at the back but it fills out on the finish with ripe black fruits. Château de Santenay Santenay Mercurey 1er Cru Les Puillets Tasted at the Liberty tasting The Oval September 2016 Red fruits the nose is fresh the start of the palate light. Sweeter and richer in the middle the red cherry and mulberry richness backed by black cherry yet although sweet at the back the finish is quite light fresh with good length. 11 BURGUNDY 2014 October 11, 2012 Saint-Véran Les Crèches The nose is sweet fruited the start of the palate rich with ripe greengage but the underlying apple balances and refreshes the back palate lighter but it finishes with depth of fruit. Pouilly-Fuissé Pentacrine Mineral freshness the nose is bright the start of the palate crisp. Slightly richer in the middle with more weight of fruit at the back but it finishes flinty streamlined and long. Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet Bourgogne La Tufera Rich and ripe the nose has depth of fruit the palate fleshy melon. Citrus and apple underpin a balance between the richness and the fresh fruits with ripe greengage giving depth and sweetness on the finish. Chassagne-Montrachet Les Encègnieres Fresh and fruity the nose is light the start of the palate has mineral crispness. Rich fruit in the middle breadth of flavour the back palate has depth with ripe greengage and the finish is sweet and broad. Puligny-Montrachet Green limes and lemons the nose is bright the start of the palate fresh with an underlying flintiness. Depth in the middle opulent and peachy but the back palate is dominated by lime and flint the finish persistent and long. Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières Floral white flowered the nose has a chalky freshness the start of the palate bright and mineral. 12 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2014 Bright fresh the nose has a citrus mix the palate starts lean with flint and mineral. There is sweet fruit in the middle the richness underpinned by apple the finish is bright lean, long and flinty. Domaine Séguinot-Bordet Maligny Chablis Petit Chablis Tasted in the Carlton Club September 2015 This vintage is very typical of Petit Chablis wines which are light, fresh, fragrant and easy to enjoy. Citrus and mineral on the nose start of the palate has gunflint crispness but there is a hint of sweetness in the middle. The racy freshness suits the lighter fish such as sole and it certainly makes and excellent pairing with the potted shrimps. Chablis Light and bright the nose has a mix of citrus fruits the start of the palate mineral and fresh. There is some mid sweetness ripe greengage but the flint and citrus comes through at the back and gives a crisp feel to the finish. Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons Rich and ripe on the nose the start of the palate has greengage richness. The mid palate is lighter with a mix of fresh fruits the back palate very citrus dominated the finish is bright and long. Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume Behind the sweet fruit the citrus mix refreshes the start of the plate bright and light. It fills out in the middle with greengage richness but citrus and flint are very much in evidence at the back the finish bright and flinty. Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Rich and ripe the nose has depth of fruit the palate peachy with tropical fruits. There is an underlying freshness flint and lime that balances adds to the complexity and although flinty at the back the finish has richness and depth. Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 12

13 BURGUNDY 2014 October 11, 2012 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir Depth on the nose with sweet ripe fruit on the palate there is balance first richness then freshness. The citrus and flint lighten and refresh with the peachy tropical fruits filling out the back palate and giving depth on the finish. Domaine Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Corbeaux The nose has rich fruit the palate sweet black fruits quite fleshy in the middle. The mid richness is balanced by bramble freshness but it fills out on the finish with rich black fruits. Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Millandes Bright on the nose more of a red fruit character and the start of the palate is light. Sweet fruit in the middle the fruit feels ripe rich black fruits at the back yet it finishes light and fresh fruited. Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Baudes The nose has a mix of fruits bright red fruits and quite light black. Fresh at the start but there is a sweeter feel in the middle richer flavours with sweet fruit showing on the finish. Domaine Soufrandière Vinzelles Mâon-Vinzelles Clos de Grand-Père Tasted in the Mansion House July 2016 Rich and ripe on the nose the palate has white peach depth of fruit. 14 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2014 Rully 1er Cru Les Préaux Rich and ripe on the nose the palate is fleshy and sweet with mid richness. The tannins at the back are very firm holding back the fruit slightly dry but there is sweet fruit showing on the finish. Monthélie 1er Cru Clos des Chênes The nose has a brooding richness the palate concentrated black fruit a powerful mix of flavours. There is mid structure firm tannins yet behind depth of fruit richness with concentration and depth on the finish. Monthélie 1er Cru Sur La Velle Tasted at the Carlton Club November 2017 Power and richness on the nose the palate has depth very black fruit in character. There is mid freshness bramble and bilberry under the concentrated black cherry and although tight on the back palate is does open up on the finish. Domaine Paul Talmard Uchizy Mâcon Montbellet Tasted in the Carlton Club March 2016 Light and bright the nose is fresh the palate has a mix of lime and apple. Sweeter and ripe in the middle layers of flavour with the rich fruit backed by apple the back palate bright yet there is sweetness depth of fruit on the finish. Domaine Gerald et Philibert Talmard Uchizy Mâcon-Uchizy Tasted in the Carlton Club March 2016 Bright on the nose apple freshness the palate is sweeter with depth of fruit ripe melon and greengage a mix of flavours. 15 BURGUNDY 2014 October 11, 2012 Domaine Tartraux Givry Givry 1er Cru Grandes Berges Tasted in the Carlton Club May 2017 Tasted in the Carlton Club February 2018 The fruit on the nose is fresh light the palate firm with high mid acidity and firm tannins. Sweeter in the middle it has more of a black fruit character but the back palate lacks fruit richness and the finish is tight and quite short. Givry 1er Cru Clos Jus Tasted in the Carlton Club February 2018 The fruit on the nose is sweet the palate has the richness of ripe bramble and mulberry. The fine tannins are well integrated the mid palate has depth of flavour and although there are fresh red fruits at the back it finishes with sweet fruit. Domaine Taupenot-Merme Morey-Saint-Denis Gevrey-Chambertin Tasted at the Armit tasting Middle Temple January 2016 The nose is aromatic with red fruits cherries and redcurrants the start of the palate bright. Richer in the middle ripe fruit more black fruits a subtle hint of liquorice the back palate and finish sweet with fair depth. Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru La Riotte Tasted at the Armit tasting Middle Temple January 2016 Behind the perfume there are rich red fruits the start of the palate farmyard creamy sweet in the middle. There is structure firm but ripe tannins the back palate has concentration and there is depth of fruit on the finish. Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Tasted at the Armit tasting Middle Temple January 2016 Fragrant and fresh the nose has bitter red cherries and the palate starts firm with precise acidity. 16 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2014 Domaine des Terres Secrètes Prissé Mâcon Blanc Rich on the nose the palate is full bodied the fleshy fruit tends to lack an underlying balancing freshness. Herbaceous on the back palate the finish lacks fruit sweetness. Mâcon Prissé Tasted in the Carlton Club March 2016 The nose lacks freshness the palate is heavy at the start but there is mid acidity and quite hard tannins. A hint of sweetness then apple freshness takes over and the finish is tight and lacking length. Mâcon Verzé Croix Jarrier Heavy fleshy there is a lack of freshness on the nose the fruit on the palate held back by firm tannins and high acidity. Slightly sweeter and richer in the middle but there is a lack of fruit at the back and a short quite dry finish. Mâcon Milly-Lamartine Quite sweet on the nose some ripe greengage and melon the palate though fresher bright with a citrus and apple mix. Slightly lacking in balance the fresh fruit gives firmness on the back palate and finish. Saint-Véran Tasted in the Carlton Club March 2016 The nose is hard the palate has high acidity the mid palate firm and tight. Slightly sweeter in the middle some richer fruit but the citrus lime mix at the back is very fresh the finish tight and quite short. Saint-Véran Croix de Montceau The fruit on the nose is sweet the start of the palate has richness with ripe greengage. Firm and tight in the middle flinty with high acidity the back palate is tight and the finish lacks length. Saint-Véran Les Pierres Blanches Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 16

17 BURGUNDY 2014 October 11, 2012 Tasted in the Carlton Club March 2016 There is not a lot of fruit on the nose the start of the palate is very firm and the mid palate hard with high acidity crisp green apple. Slightly sweeter towards the back but the finish lacks sweetness and length. Mâcon Rouge The nose is fresh the palate light very red fruit in character. The mid acidity dominates the back palate lacks fruit richness and sweetness and the finish is lacking in length. Domaine Gérard Thomas et Filles Saint-Aubin Bourgogne Chardonnay Fresh citrusy the nose is bright the start of the palate has a mix of lime and lemon. Firm in the middle quite closed but there is sweetness towards the back and slightly more depth on the finish. Saint-Aubin Champ Tirant Fresh on the nose the palate is bright with a citrus apple mix. There is mid sweetness but the fresh fruits dominate the finish is firm and lacks a bit of length. Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Murgers des Dents de Chien The fruit on the nose is sweet the palate has depth rich fruit layers of flavour. Under the ripe greengage lime and apple refresh the back palate lighter but it has got depth on the finish. Puligny-Montrachet Le Trézin Lime and mineral fresh the nose is bright the palate lean and racy. There is more depth at the back the fruit feels ripe the richer flavours underpinned by freshness flinty and citrusy on the finish. Tasted in the Carlton Club July The nose has a mix of fresh fruits the start of the palate lean and mineral driven. 18 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Blagny Honeyed sweetness on the nose the palate has rich ripe fruit a nice depth of flavour. There is enough freshness to balance to lighten the back palate but it finishes with sweetness and depth. Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes Citrus and apple freshness the nose is bright the start of the palate quite crisp. There is sweet fruit in the middle depth of flavour the fruit on the back palate fleshy but citrus is there at the back the finish light and bright. Tasted in the Carlton Club July Fresh fruit on the nose the start of the palate has crisp apple but it fills out in the middle tropical fruits sweet at the back richness and breadth of flavour. The finish has fragrance hints of mineral and citrus. Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne Lime and mineral the nose is fresh the palate sleek and bright. Sweeter in the middle some ripe fruit ripe greengage lighter at the back with flint and citrus on the finish. Domaine Tollot Beaut Chorey-lès-Beaune Chorey-lès-Beaune Piece du Chapitre Monople Sweet on the nose the black fruits feel ripe the palate has black cherry richness backed by bramble freshness a complex mix of flavours. The ripeness of the fruit shows at the back sweet and rich with depth on the finish. Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières Red cherries slightly nutty on the nose the start of the palate is bright and fresh. More depth in the middle the mainly black fruits are rich and ripe and although tight on the back there is sweetness on the finish. Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 18

Blackberry and mulberry intermingle on the mid palate a complex mix of flavours and although at the back there is freshness the finish is sweet. Corton Bressandes Grand Cru Ripe fruits yet aromatic the nose has depth the palate has brooding richness succulent and ripe. Black fruits dominate yet at the back there is freshness a bramble bilberry mix. Harmony and balance the sweet fruit gives richness and depth on the finish. Château de la Tour Clos Vougeot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Cuvée Classique Tasted at the C & B tasting The Tower January 2016 The nose is bright the palate starts with bramble and red fruited freshness. Richer in the middle the fruit is ripe and sweet the tannins fine yet there is an underlying freshness the finish is bright with good length. Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes Tasted at the C & B tasting The Tower January 2016 The nose has depth the palate rich with concentrated black cherry. The mid sweetness is underpinned by bramble and bilberry lighter at the back and although the finish is firm there is the feel of fruit to show. Château de La Tour de l Ange Charnay-lès-Mâcon Bourgogne Chardonnay Tasted in the Carlton Club March 2016 Citrus and apple freshness on the nose the start of the palate is bright quite lean and crisp. Rich and ripe in the middle fleshy melon the sweet fruit gives depth at the back and richness on the finish. Richer in the middle depth of fruit still very red fruit in character but there is balance with bright red fruits at the back. Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru Tasted at the C & B tasting The Tower January 2016 Rich and ripe on the nose sweet fruit on the palate the fleshy richness in the middle is underpinned by bramble freshness. It fills out at the back supple rounded tannins and the finish has sweetness depth rich black fruits. Domaine des Varoilles Gevrey-Chambertin Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Meix des Ouches Monopole Tasted at the C & B tasting The Tower January 2016 Bright fresh red fruits are to the fore on the nose the palate has more of a black fruit influence a mid sweetness. Fresher at the back bramble some redcurrant the finish is quite light fragrant and bright. Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru La Romanée Monopole Tasted at the C & B tasting The Tower January 2016 Sweet on the nose the start of the palate is bright with a mix of red fruits. Fine tannins support the back palate is lighter with bright red fruits on the finish. Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Tasted at the C & B tasting The Tower January 2016 Depth on the nose the fruit is sweet and ripe the palate rich and fleshy. There is a saline freshness at the back flinty and mineral the finish bright with a mix of citrus fruits. Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons Vieille Vignes Mignots Tasted in Mercers Hall January 2016 The nose has depth of fruit the palate ripe greengage a hint of tropical fruits. Bright at the back crisp apple and flint but there is sweetness showing on the finish. Mâcon Bussières Montbrison Tasted in Mercers Hall January 2016 Fresh fruits lime and lemon the nose is bright the start of the palate lean. There is mid sweetness white peach and pear, a hint of honey all balanced by freshness on the back palate and the finish is lean, intense the freshness lingering. Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru Sous le Puits Tasted at the Farr tasting Boodles April 2016 Fresh mineral the nose has a steely brightness and the start of the palate gunflint and apple. There is more depth and richness in the middle ripe melon but the fleshy richness is underpinned by fresh fruit the finish is long streamlined flinty. Domaine A & P de Villaine Bouzeron Bouzeron Tasted at the C & B tasting The Tower January 2016 Crisp crunchy apple both nose and palate are bright and fresh the mid palate has a citrus mix. There is a touch of tropical fruit at the back but fresh fruits dominate the finish which is racy and bright.
