We would like our school families to be aware of the tremendous impact and important work that has been accomplished because of the proceeds of the previous ten St. Joseph School Benefit Dinners. We are proud of the fact that our Benefit Dinners have raised over $665,484 in ten years! Over these years, profits have been applied to our school s endowment fund, tuition assistance, playground enhancement and technology. 2 Parents: Interested in finding out more about our annual SJS Benefit Dinner and becoming involved in one of the many committees? We invite you to our Kick-Off meeting on Thursday, October 6, at 7pm in the Fr. Wurzel Family Center. Being a part of something as important as our Benefit Dinner (we ve raised over $665, in ten years) is a fun and satisfying way to contribute time and talent to our school; and it s a great way to meet people! 3 September 22, 2016 Dear Parents/Guardians, St. Joseph School is excited to be participating once again in a national healthy-eating initiative called P.A.C.K. Week - Pack Assorted Colors for Kids week, October 3- October 7, This fun and educational program is aimed at encouraging kids to eat more fruits and vegetables. The focus of P.A.C.K. Week is on eating a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, as each has its own nutritional benefits. To get the broadest range of nutrients, all colors are important- purple, white, red, yellow, orange, and green. And kids love eating the rainbow! Each day of P.A.C.K. Week has been assigned a different color and we re asking you to pack a fruit or vegetable in your child s lunch box based on the color of the day. All forms of fruit and vegetables count, so consider packing 100% juice, dried fruit, or canned fruits or veggies as tasty options. Our cafeteria will also be participating in P.A.C.K. Week so look for color items on the October menu! Here are the days of P.A.C.K. Week with some packing tips to make it easy: Monday, October 3rd is Pack Purple Day. A child-friendly way to pack purple is with 100% grape juice made from Concord grapes, snack sized raisins, blackberries, or fresh blueberries. Tuesday, October 4th is Pack White Day. Bananas, white peaches or even cauliflower with dressing makes a nice choice. Wednesday, October 5th is Pack Red Day. Strawberries are a favorite, and other tasty options are red pepper slices, tomato wedges or a delicious red apple. Thursday, October 6th is Pack Yellow/Orange Day. Baby carrots are easy to pack and so are dried apricots or orange segments. Friday, October 7th is Pack Green Day. Go green with celery sticks, broccoli florets or a crisp green apple. 4 Tech News St. Joseph School 9/22/ Student SchoolSpeak Logins Beginning next week our middle school students will be given the ability to login to SchoolSpeak with their own accounts. This will allow them to view their own homework, order lunch, view progress, as well as communicate with teachers. SchoolSpeak FAQ Q. What if I forget to order or pay for lunch for my children? A. The teachers always double check lunch orders along with attendance each day. If a lunch is ordered by the teacher for your child the system will automatically invoice you. Q. Why does it appear as though I owe lunch money for one child but my other child shows a credit? A. When you pay in advance it will apply as a credit to one child s account, however, the system does view it as family credit and it will be used for all children in your family. Your overall balance will give you the correct amount. Q. Will I be charged online fees for every lunch order? A. The fees are charged per transaction. You are able to prepay as much as you d like for the school year. If you choose to use Vanco with your checking account you are charged $0.25 per transaction. If you use PayPal or PayPal credit it is 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction. You may avoid this additional charge if you pay by cash or check, which we then apply to your account. Q. Don t Forget!! Just a friendly reminder that Thursday, September 29 from 2:00p.m. till 6:00p.m. is the time set aside to pick up all orders from the P.T.O.

While it is understandable that one day and block of time may not be good for all, we ask that every effort is made on September 29. P.T.O.

If orders are not picked up on this day, orders have to be distributed by Mrs. Perna in the east campus school office.

Item Pick-Up will be located in the East Campus Gym. It is VERY important that orders be picked up on this date. While it is understandable that one day and block of time may not be good for all, we ask that every effort is made on September 29. P.T.O. volunteers, as well as eighth grade students, will be here to distribute the orders. If orders are not picked up on this day, orders have to be distributed by Mrs. Perna in the east campus school office. While she is happy to help, this becomes difficult to manage and keeps her working beyond her normal day. Please help us this year by picking up on time. 8 Fill That Truck! Easter Seals Fundraiser Looking for volunteers for Easter Seals "Fill That Truck" fundraiser. Perfect opportunity for 8th grade students to earn service hours. Adults, high school students, 6th and 7th graders also welcome. Easy and fun way to volunteer. Main job is to help transport donations from cars to Easter Seals truck. No experience necessary! 9 PTO News - Morning Muffins The first Morning Muffins of the new school year was held on Wednesday, September 14 th. Faculty and staff were treated to many morning goodies donated by members of the PTO Teacher Appreciation Committee.
