3 About Us Chemicos is Chemistry Students Association of Government Post-Graduate College Seema, Rohru District-Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Vision The Chemistry Department prepares students for a diverse and changing world. We strive to contribute to a chemically literate society through teaching (with classrooms, labs, and research), scholarship, and service. Mission The Chemistry Department provides rigorous preparation of citizens whose career paths require expertise in chemistry. We are dedicated to rigorous standards for content knowledge, communication skills, research quality, and professional behaviour. We are committed to demonstrating science as a human endeavour and as a way to understand the natural world. The faculty in the Chemistry Department see themselves as resources for our units, university, region, state, nation, and world. Values We value the development of knowledgeable and inquisitive students in the chemical professions besides development of scientific temper. We value quality undergraduate research opportunities designed to make involvement in state of the art chemical research a part of a student's chemistry education. We value access to a quality education in chemistry for a diverse range of students. We value rigorous standards for teaching and learning. We value effective and innovative teaching practices. We value the synergistic relationship of teaching, scholarship, and service STRATEGIC PRIORITIES The Chemistry Department faculty members strive to: Act as mentors to undergraduates through facilitating them in their study.

4 Teach students the value of cross-disciplinary thinking by providing them with educational and research opportunities between chemistry and other fields of study. Promote innovative curriculum development while exposing students to understand the local issues and scientific solutions for the same. Foster multi-disciplinary curriculum development to provide students with a breadth of course options in Botany, Zoology, Physics and Mathematics. Encourage community engagement by providing students with service-learning and community-based extra co-curricular opportunities. Serve as good role models to students for safe and ethical professional behaviour. Provide high quality academic advising for all majors. Encourage students to value diversity and to develop a global perspective through promotion of regional diversity. OUR FUNDAMENTALS PURPOSE The purpose of the Association is to contribute to the scientific development of young students in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of the local, national and international communities. PRINCIPLE The principle of the association is to aspire to the values which are based on the highest professional and academic standards in terms of personal growth and excellence in what we do; teamwork that is based on respect, trust and integrity; and innovation to promote growth and add scientific dimensions to our rich cultural heritage. THE EMBLEM: The College has adopted an open book and the rising sun as its emblem. The open book symbolizes the learning whereas the rising sun symbolizes that education will lead the people from darkness to light, ignorance to knowledge; from unknown to known paths. The open book also communicates the message that the education shall be made available to all those who were deprived of it so far. INCEPTION The College started science classes in the year 1989 to cater to the needy students of this farflung area of the state.

6 Chanshal Vibes Ashwani Kumar Sharma The Puranas have sung He who goes to the Hills, Goes to His Mother, The Loving Nourishing Bounteous Mother. The Chanshal (4520m) symbolic of might and excellence is the highest peak in the Shimla district. Nestled in the lap of Chanshal is the vibrant pabbar valley which is harbinger of life. It is an area which is less traveled, filled with an indefinable blend of myth and reality, fact and fiction, ancient and towering temples, legends, charming architecture, soaring mountains, fishing and trekking, pulse racing picturesque hamlets, fruit-laden orchards cradled by thick woods and set by swift streams, where man and nature live on to experience the bewitching spell of vibes. It is a perfect destination in the heart of nature filled with lush green forests, wide views, excellent walk, hike trails, countless wild flowers and medicinal herbs, thick woods of flowering rhododendron, cedar and birch. The villages and their temples are remarkable examples of local wood work skill and come packed with fascinating legends. Devtas are held in high veneration. The area falls under the jurisdiction of Rohru sub-division which harbours several educational institutions. Rohru has an average literacy rate of 94%, much higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 96%, and female literacy is 92%. Undoubtedly the big share of credit for such high literacy goes to the post graduate college Seema an epitome of knowledge and center of higher education. This center of learning is being nurtured aesthetically by the vibes of Chanshal resonating on to the young brains resounding into the sweet or sour and good or bad memories of teacher and taught relationship. The most important element to make life successful and worth living is education. Education is a continuous and creative progression. Its aim is to develop the capacities inherently present in human nature and to coordinate their expression for the enrichment and progress of society, by equipping students with spiritual, moral and material knowledge. True education enhances capacities, develops analytical abilities, confidence in oneself, will power and goal setting competencies, and instills the vision that enables one to become self-motivating agent of social change, serving the best interests of the community. One ought to be intellectually vibrant to meet the aspirations of the society. The vibes between teacher and taught helps to achieve a greater appreciation of methods to think, learn, make decisions, solve problems and communicate. The way teacher learn best about everything, including their emotions plays an important role in teaching-learning process to engage all types of students. Creation of multiple activities by teachers is an effort to focus on all types of brains with differential intelligence. The meaningful vibes inculcate rich values which are regarded enviable and imperative to the all-round development of an individual. They give a direction to life and thus bring joy, satisfaction and peace. True education involves the development of head, heart and hand. Gandhiji wrote- By education I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in the child and man- body, mind and spirit. It has been rightly said, Education is a formation that leads to transformations. These vibes at the campus reminds us that the college have to perform multiple roles, like creating new knowledge, acquiring new capabilities and producing an intelligent human resource pool through challenging teaching, research and co-curricular activities so as to balance both the need and demand.
