Listed in the tables below are MRLs & PHIs for South Africa and countries/regions to which South Africa exports litchis, as of May 214. The purpose of this publication is to inform growers, processors and marketers of the export requirements with regards to pesticide residues. It is important to note that South African MRLs & PHIs do not apply to other countries and even though a pesticide may be registered in South Africa, this may not be the case in the receiving, overseas country. Organisations marketing to overseas countries should be aware that the information provided below represents the official standards, but not necessarily the marketing requirements. Marketers should refer to their contractual agreements concerning agreed residue limits. The information provided in the tables is believed to be accurate as at the date of publishing the document. Pest Active Ingredient Trade name/s otherwise Bollworm eggs are laid singularly on any plant part. Eggs are round and white when freshly laid, but turn darker as shell hardens. Larvae vary in colour from greenishyellow to pinkishbrown to nearly black. A distinctive characteristic of the larvae is the pale stripe along each side of the body. Larvae feed on young leaves, flowers and young fruit. Has ovicidal (egg) and larvicidal (larvae) properties. Optimum ph 4 9. Will also control litchi moth. NOT FOR EXPORT AT THIS STAGE!!! Beauvaria bassiana (strain PPRI 5339) BroadBand BASF ESC min 4 x 1 9 viable spores/ml 1 2 ml (min. 5 1 ml/ha) Preventative: Apply at 1 ml/1l water (Min. 5 ml/ha). Initiate when first stink bugs are observed.repeat 5 to 7 days with a min. of 3 applications. Curative: Apply at 2 ml/1l water (Min. 1 ml/ha). Repeat 3 to 5 days at the normal dose rate (1 ml/1l water) with a min. of 3 applications. Apply in late afternoon/evening. Increased efficacy when combined with a registered pyrethroid insecticide.

Apply as a full cover film spray when the pest occurs. Sprays should be applied shortly after moth flight peaks. A final application 4 weeks before harvest is recommended. Apply during late afternoon or evening. Optimal at ph 5 8.

In the case of whitefly, apply early morning after sunrise when adult whiteflies are stll resting under leaves. Ensure thorough coverage of the underside of Mediumsized flies, usually brightly coloured with irridescent eyes and mottled wings which are held sideways at rest. Lay eggs in fruit (starshaped sting mark) which becomes infested with maggots which eat their way into the fruit, causing rot. spinosad GF12* NF Dow AgroSciences CB.24 g/l L / L water 1 spinosad + methyl eugenol Static Spinosad ME Dow AgroSciences RB 2g / L + 51 g/l ml/ha (Not more than 7 L/ ha/ year) 1 Apply as scattered coarse droplets of 1 4 mm in size, at 2 3 L spray mix per ha. Apply as a band of scattered droplets 1 2.5m above ground level to one side of row. Use mixture within 12 hours. Do not add any other products to this mixture. STATIC Spinosad ME* selectively eliminates male fruit flies from a localized area, causing disruptions in mating. For crop protection begin applications as soon as monitoring traps indicate the presence of flies (especially male of Bactrocera invandens ) and to maintain a presence of STATIC Spinosad ME* around the crop throughout the cropping season or even beyond. Reapply STATIC Spinosad ME* at 2 6 week intervals as indicated by population monitoring. This product resists washoff. Do not spray when trees are flowering to protect bees or on any edible parts of plants or on fruit. Replace lures in traps every6 8 weeks. Note: Product is no longer being manufactured but growers may still use any remaining stock. Microscopic slender transparent "worms" in the soil. Attack roots of plants causing lesions that make them susceptible to bacterial or fungal attack or cause knotty swellings (galls) on roots resulting in poor growth of plants. Protect is not systemic therefore it will only control nematodes around the root zone of the plant and not inside the roots. Do not use on clay soils. READ LABEL CAREFULLY!!

More stable in acidic media. * Mercaptothion and Trichlorfon are registered for use as a fruit fly baiting spray in the Department of Agriculture & Forestry's Guide for the control of plant pests under the section Certain pests affecting many crops". Regarding GLOBALGAP, one may continue using mercaptothion + sugar or protein hydrolysate as a baiting spray for fruit fly control but adhere to the following: *The minimum time between the last application and harvest is 1 days (Local marketsouth Africa). For export fruit,it is advised that no baiting sprays should be applied in the orchard within 3 days before harvest. If a Fruit Fly baiting spray is required during this period only spray on windbreaks or other vegetation on the perimeter of your orchards or use Spinosad (1 day withholding period).
