1 February 2019 thenewscomer CITRUS NEWCOMERS CLUB Citrus County, Florida When I think of the month of February, I get very patriotic and romantic. Yes, Presidents Day and Valentine s Day are both on the February horizon. Now, I am not going to talk about politics. I don t want to debate which party affiliation is better than the other. There is enough of that out there on TV and at family dinners. I just want to celebrate our great nation and in doing so, remember two presidents, namely George Washington & Abraham Lincoln. These great presidents contributed a lot to our nation. So, happy birthday to these men and all the other presidents who helped form the United States of America! Speaking of birthdays our Newcomers January birthday party was a huge success! Thanks to Regina, Chris and their decorating helpers, Kathy & Kitty for an absolutely lovely venue. It certainly felt like a party with balloons, birthday cake, presents and the Floral City clown, Dayz. Also, thanks to Bunny & Lisa for an incredible menu. I do love the Hampton Room s tomato bisque soup and salad bar. A special thanks to Gail for finding our speaker, Eric Head who is Director of Citrus Libraries. Eric gave a very informative talk on the Citrus library system and all that it offers. Our clown, Dayz, brought some flowers from her floral shop to honor our most senior luncheon member. I know it is not polite to ask a lady her age but in order to win you had to confess your age. Congratulations to Ardie for volunteering her age and winning the flowers. In addition to bringing flowers, our clown, Dayz, painted faces and hands making the ladies sparkle! Speaking of sparkle are you getting something sparkly for Valentine s Day? I know I will get dinner, candy and flowers, but the only sparkly thing I ll probable receive is a coke or, if I am lucky, a glass of champagne. That s ok as I look forward to this holiday every year so I can tell my honey how much I love him. Valentine s Day is for everyone including children, grandchildren, parents, siblings and dear friends. So, tell someone you love them on February 14th and don t be surprised if they return the sentiment. Please join me in celebrating the month of February. See you at the next luncheon. Mickey Murphy, President Michelemurphy1110@att.net 1
