1 October 2017 thenewscomer CITRUS NEWCOMERS CLUB Citrus County, Florida Hi Newcomers, The season kicked off with lunch at Van der Valk Country Club. The excitement in the room was apparent as former friends greeted each other after a long hot summer. Pat Turner introduced our 7 new members who spoke a little about themselves. The group welcomed them and we sincerely hope they enjoy their Newcomers experience. In addition to enjoying the Newcomer fellowship, the ladies were pleased with the delicious food. Thank you Bunny Bucci for adding Van der Valk to our calendar this year. Everyone exclaimed how good the food was whether you chose the plated salad and crusted chicken or soup and shrimp salad. Although the restaurant normally does not serve this many people at one time, they did a fine job. The restaurant manager told us that the restaurant has 3 weekly dinner specials consisting of steak night on Wednesday, Italian night on Thursday and fish night on Friday for under $25 per person including a glass of wine or beer. So, next time you are in the mood for a night out remember Van der Valk for a special treat. Instead of a guest speaker, Regina Keadle and Chris Lyman presented a fun ice breaker game called Pockets, Wallets and Purses. Regina & Chris gave each table of ladies a list of items to search for in their purses. A lot of laughs as the ladies searched their purses for such items as a nail file, doctor s appointment card, pencil, tape measure, etc. The table of ladies that had the most items on the list were awarded prizes. The ladies in the yellow aprons, namely, Ruthie Berg & Barbara Michaels sold 50/50 tickets and did an amazing job. Three ladies split the $153 cash prize ($51 each) and a like amount was deposited in our Newcomers account for future expenses. The Activity Committee has been planning many exciting events. Please check the Activity section in this Newsletter to plan your season. As the year progresses, Bonnie Groves and Pat Sherman s group of marvelous ladies will be adding more activities. Our next luncheon is on October 19, 2017 at Royal Oaks Country Club at Oak Run. Please check the appropriate page in this Newsletter for the menu, Royal Oak s address and, if you haven t signed up already, instructions for making a reservation with our Assistant Treasurer, Anne Lundberg. I wish you a safe October and look forward to seeing you at the next luncheon. Mickey Murphy, President Michelemurphy1110@att.net 1
