2 OFFICER S CORNER My Fellow Brothers and Sisters of the Moose, There were no changes to the rules of The Moose that came out at International. One of the major points that did come out was any lodge that is not operating as a Fraternal Unit is in for major changes. Please remember that our membership is our life blood to keep us operating, so please continue to support our Child City, at Mooseheart and our Seniors at Mooseheaven, by paying your dues. If you have questions about membership dues please contact me. Now to the matters at hand in our Lodge, I would like to take this opportunity to Thank all the Volunteers, who do so much to help keep our Lodge open and functioning. If I miss anyone, please accept my apologies, and forgive my oversight. It is not intentional. First for our beautiful flowers and flowerbed, Jane Newton, Martin Bue, and Mike McFarland. Laird Adkins and everyone that helped at 4th of July. Dave Bue, Mark Leonard, Jim Hutchens, and Laird Adkins for their help in hauling away the old unwanted stuff from the basement. Jim Tegtmeier for always being here whenever needed. You Guys Rock!! A special Thank You to Greg Schimpf for all your help and support to me personally in my transition into this job and for taking over when I travel, I could not have done it without you. A very special Thank you for being such a great Bartender, you will be missed daily. We love you. Fraternally, Doug Flesey, Administrator From the Governor Well, three months are over in the Moose year and we still do not have a full board of Officers. So the ones that are here to help keep the Lodge open for our members have voted to go with one trustee and move up the other trustee, so we can complete the business of the Lodge to stay open. This move will have no effect with the Lodge operations but will help with the fraternal and business side of our Lodge. On a good note, the operation of the Lodge for the first time in three months went well and we are still open. Thank you for your support of the daily operations. This is your Lodge so come down and take part of the many things that go on here at the Lodge. August is going to be busy, with Regatta and other events that are planned for our members. So let's come down and help with anything that you can do. Thanks for your help. Fraternally, Jim Hutchens Dear Fellow Members, I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer. I want to thank everyone who helps at the lodge, it wouyldn't be the same without your help. Remember if you have an idea for the Lodge, please see an officer and let them know. We want all our members voices heard. It is your Lodge. Thank you, Jim Tegtmeier, Jr. Governor The Moose Legion Races just got better with Dave's Famous Rib dinner on Friday August 14th. BBQ Baby Back Ribs with Coleslaw, Salad, and Corn on the Cob Just $10 (Proceeds go to the Moose Building Project) Dinner Service begins at 5:00 until gone Moose Races at 6:00 Trifecta Pot is currently (July 24) over $1,250. Come on down and join the racing fun and Enjoy a Great Dinner. The 4th Celebration at the Moose A very special thank you is due for all the volunteers that helped clean up and prepare our side yard Martin Bue and Jane Newton for cleaning out and new additions to the flower beds, Jerome for grooming the horse shoe pits, Jim T. for mowing, and Mark Leonard and Jim H for the big dump run. The kitchen crew on the 4th Mike McFarland and Greg Schimpf for shopping, Jerome and Jim T for prep and cooking the early shift, Sheri and Jay for a much needed afternoon relief shift, and Jim H for anchor and clean up. This year's 4th was lightly attended by members, but those that did come down had a very good time, especially with Kim's custom made "Corn Hole" game (just ask Barb Roberts and the kids). Laird Adkins, Chief Go For
3 Remember to ask your Friends and Family that you signed up to check their membership cards for expiration date and the ones that you haven't seen for awhile to please rejoin. The children at Mooseheart and the Seniors at Moosehaven need them to continue to live there. Mark your calendars for August 26th, Cupcake and Cookie Raffle. Fundraiser for Cap and Gown. After W.O.T.M. meeting. Linda Flesey, Sec/Treasurer Dear Brothers and Co-workers, I hope your summer is treating you well. Please keep in mind when planning your fun filled adventures all of the great events we have going on at the Lodge. Please refer to the calendar for activities the whole family can enjoy. There are a few I would briefly like to highlight which are special for this month. First please remember our ongoing School Supply, Coat and Shoe Drive. Items will be collected through August and will be donated to local schools. Lists of needed supplies are available online and will be posted at the Lodge. The Activities and Sports Committee is hosting this event. The Mooseheart/ Moosehaven Committee is hosting a Back to School Fashion Show and lunch with clothes donated by local second hand stores that support the community. All proceeds will go to this committee and the "models" will be our very own children of members. If you have a child that would like to participate (prek thru 12) please contact me at katherynstreicher@gmail.com or (503) by August 12th. A special event will be held in September so please mark your calendars for September 26th and come to show your support at our first and hopefully annual Veterans and Active Military Appreciation Day which will be open to the public. More information to come. Chapter meetings just became more fun? This month we will be hosting two fundraiser activities following the meetings. The first meeting August 12th will be followed by a Brown Bag Lunch Raffle hosted by the Community Service Committee. Please bring a lunch to be raffled off. The second meeting August 26th will be followed by a Cookie/Cupcake Raffle hosted by Linda Flesey for her Cap and Gown. Please bring your delicious desserts to be raffled off. Both events will have tickets for $1 each or 6 for $5. All members are welcome to attend. Fraternally yours, Katie Streicher Sr. Regent RELAY FOR LIFE Your Astoria Moose Trekkers RFL Team completed another successful Relay on July 12th. We have exceeded our $7500 goal by tons of money. Our final total is not available yet, as a couple members are collecting their pledges. As of today our total is $10, Jerome Schinderle walked 32 miles over the weekend and is collecting his pledges, so we don't have his total. I've heard it may be close to $2000 all by himself. Congratulations to Jerome for his dedication and his sponsors.. A big thanks to Laird Adkins who always walks our dark hour laps, from 11p.m. to 7 a.m. He has pledges to collect too. Thanks Laird. Molly Brown Team Leader
