We here at Food & Wine Trails have made culinary contacts around the world thereby giving us the connections we need to offer exclusive pre cruise land programs that are unique and designed especially for the food and wine lover. We always encourage our guests traveling to Europe for a cruise to arrive a day or two in advance as this gives you time to rest and enjoy the region. Flight delays are always possible so by joining us in Rome, you won't risk "missing the boat"! Your first night will have you staying at Rome s Fortyseven Hotel, a beautiful 3 star hotel located in the historical center within walking distance of most of the must see sites of Rome. Your second night will be at Podernovo Country Homes on the beautiful estate of hosts Livia Colntanio and Paulo Nodari, owners of Castello delle Regine winery. In addition to wine touring, tasting and dinner at the estate you ll witness a cooking demonstration by top Chef Lorenzo Polegri of Zeppelin Restaurant, a culinary school in charming Orvieto. 2 TWO NIGHT PRE CRUISE ROME PACKAGE A Taste of Rome and the Food and Wines of Umbria PORT: Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy ACTIVITY LEVEL: Light Medium walking for extended periods of time The Umbrian estate Castello delle Regine Food & Wine Trails loves Italy! One reason is our good friend Livia Colontanio. Livia is the daughter of a former top Government Minister, trained at Cordon Bleu and is now the consummate Italian hostess. She and her partner Paulo Nodari, own Castello delle Regine winery, which sits on a beautiful 800 acre wine and olive oil estate in Southern Umbria an hour or so north of Rome. Their winery has earned top awards from Gambero Rosso, an Italian equivalent of Wine Spectator. Your visit to their estate will include a very special winery tour and tasting, dinner at Podernovo, their on site Michelin style country restaurant serving meals created from products grown on the estate, and a few other surprises. This is a lovely opportunity to taste the full flavors of Umbria, all while experiencing firsthand life inside a great Umbrian wine estate. The Eternal City of Rome is where we ll begin our journey after you ve had some time to explore on your own. It's hard to describe Rome in a few words; a city so vast and rich in art, monuments and exquisite views, a historic city, which has preserved its charm and independence throughout the centuries. This Food & Wine Trails exclusive program includes accommodations in the 3 star Fortyseven Hotel, a day in the Italian wine region of Umbria with an overnight in Livia s Country Houses Podernovo, a visit to the charming town of Orvieto, a cooking demonstration followed by a lovely meal at the cooking school s Restaurant Zeppelin and transportation to the ship. ITINERARY Day 1 Independent Arrival in Rome Arrive in Rome and transfer on your own to the boutique, 3 star Fortyseven Hotel which according to Star Guide, an unbiased industry reference, this hotel offers guests some of the nicest rooms in the city and is in walking distance from many important attractions, including the Piazza Venezia and the Coliseum. The rest of the day and evening are free to be spent at your leisure and dinner is on your own. Day 2 The Wine and Food of Umbria [B, D] Highlight: Winery Tour, Wine Tasting, and Dinner all on the estate of Castello delle Regine & Pordenovo Buffet breakfast is included this morning in the hotel restaurant. Explore Rome at your leisure (your travel consultant can make private arrangements if you wish) and enjoy lunch on your own. Room at Fortyseven Hotel At 1:00 PM meet your guide in the hotel lobby to depart via motorcoach for the exquisite Umbria wine region.

3 You ll arrive at Castello delle Regine where your accommodations for the evening will be in Pordonorvo, the bed & breakfast style country houses located on the estate. You ll have free time to settle into your room, swim in one of their pools, walk the beautiful grounds or take an Italian siesta before the evening s festivities. Podernovo is unique in that it is comprised of four large country houses that offer one and two bedroom shared apartments. You ll share a common living room though each bedroom comes with its own private bathroom. This is a very quaint Italian country style property that very few are lucky enough to experience. You ll be treated like royalty and have unlimited access to this well known and award winning wine estate. In the early evening our hosts Livia and Paulo Nodari will share their beautiful winery and vineyards followed by a tasting of some of their special award winning wines.. Dinner will be at the estate s restaurant, Ristorante Pordenovo. Livia will design the dinner menu to include wonderful, traditional dishes made from ingredients grown on the grounds of the estate and of course, wine! Our tour, wine tasting and dinner at this remarkable estate will be an experience you ll never forget. Day 3 Orvieto Cooking School / Embarkation [B] [L] Highlight: Orvieto Village and Duomo, Cooking Demonstration, Lunch at Zeppelin Cooking School Restaurant Breakfast this morning in the Ristorante Podernovo. A beautiful drive through the Umbrian countryside will bring you to the charming village of Orvieto, set high on a hill with breathtaking panoramic views of the Umbrian countryside. Start with a brief walking tour through the streets of Orvieto and a visit to the Cathedral (Duomo) of Orvieto. With nearly three centuries of slow construction, this 14 th century brilliant piece of architecture evolved from Romanesque to Gothic and is a site not to be missed. The hillside town of Orvieto Chef Lorenzo Polegri Orvieto is a major player in Slow Food, a global, grassroots movement that links the pleasure of food along with a commitment to community and the environment, so it s only fitting we have a true culinary experience while here. Of course the best way to do that is with a cooking demonstration by the award winning Chef Lorenzo Polegri, the most celebrated European chef at the James Beard House who has even cooked at the White House. His cooking school and Zeppelin Restaurant are know the world over you are really in for a treat today! After the cooking demonstration have a wonderful restful lunch with delicious local wines. After lunch, you ll board the motorcoach for the drive to Civitavecchia, where you will board the ship for the next part of this extraordinary journey..
