4 A TASTE OF LISBON AND ALENQUER WINES LISBON, PORTUGAL 2-NIGHT PRE-CRUISE WINE PROGRAM Lisbon is one of Europe's most beautiful capital cities. It sits perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, overlooking a beautiful bay spanned by a replica of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge (which was designed by the same architect). This friendly, relaxed city is both progressive and nostalgic. Lisbon retains its Moorish heritage and enjoys a cuisine influenced by the sea, Africa, Gaul and Spain. Although we generally encourage our guests to arrive one day early, so they never hear that old adage "you just missed the boat," you are invited to join your fellow group members two-nights early, in order to enjoy the beauty of this city and an exploration of the nearby Alenquer wine region. This pre-cruise option includes two nights in a city center boutique hotel, a welcome dinner in a chic restaurant and a full day excursion to an Alenquer winery with a tour, tasting and a wine-paired lunch hosted by one of the region s premier wine families. PORTUGAL'S CAPITAL CITY, LISBOA STANDARD ROOM AT TIVOLI JARDIM Day 1 Independent Arrival in Lisbon [D] Highlight: Welcome Dinner Guests arrive in Lisbon independently and transfer from the airport to the hotel on their own. (A taxi is the most convenient and reasonable option.) You ll spend two-nights in the 4-star Tivoli Jardim Hotel, a small and friendly boutique-style hotel located in the heart of Lisbon and within walking distance to numerous sights, shops and restaurants. The hotel is consistently rated as excellent on consumer and travel websites garnering 4+ stars. After checking into your room and some time to relax, you will meet your fellow group members downstairs in the hotel s Olivier Restaurant for a welcome dinner. Day 2 Alenquer wine region [B, L] Highlight: Winery tour, tasting and lunch Following breakfast in the hotel s restaurant, you will meet your guide in the hotel lobby and depart for the Alenquer wine region.

5 CHOCAPALHA WINE ESTATE Here you will enjoy a private tour, tasting and lunch at Chocapalha Wine Estate, a wonderful and enchanting property that is not only known for its architecture, but also for its history, beauty and wines. The vineyards of Chocapalha date back to the 16th century and were given to a Scotsman, Diogo Duff, who fought for King João VI and received both the land and the "Tower and Sword" insignia. The current owners Alice and Paulo Tavares da Silva bought the property in the mid-1980s and made significant improvements, allowing this small family-owned winery to earn 90-point scores from Wine Spectator and 4 stars from Decanter. The wine tasting will be led by winemaker and daughter of the owners, Sandra Tavares da Silva, or a member of the oenology staff. After this, you will join the family for lunch at their charming house. After lunch you will depart for the medieval village (and former location of the Royal Family s summer home) of Cascais where you will have time to walk at your leisure, shop and enjoy the fresh sea breeze. Your drive back to Lisbon will follow the scenic Estoril coastline. Day 3 Historic Lisbon [B] Highlight: City tour and transfer to the ship After breakfast in the hotel's restaurant, you will check out of your room, meet the group in the lobby and depart for a beautiful panoramic city tour of Lisbon. The tour includes visits to the Discovery Monuments and the XVI-century Belem Tower. You will visit the XVI-century Jeronimos Monastery, which exemplifies the Manueline style, a highly decorative form of architecture that emerged during the reign of Manuel I ( ). The next stop will be at Antiga Confeitaria de Belém, dating from early 19th century. This Lisbon fixture now serves 10,000 Pasteis de Belém (custard tarts) a day, a specialty made with a secret centuries-old recipe. Indulge on a special gourmet treat in one of their rooms covered with 17th-century tiles. Your tour ends as you arrive at the pier where you will board the ship in time for lunch and the beginning of your next journey Bon Voyage!
