11 JUNE FEATURED BREWER In 1997, armed only with his own surname, a chap called Steve Skinner dreamed of setting up a community brewery in Cornwall. On the banks of the Truro River, he and his family brewed a groundbreaking golden ale and named it after the tin-mining faeries of local myth. With Cornish Knocker, Steve set out his stall for concocting trailblazing ales, following it with another legendary brew, a brazen Cornish bitter called Betty Stogs, which CAMRA named Britain s best bitter. Countless barrels and hundreds of awards later, our brewery has grown but remains a family business rooted in the area we live and work, whether that s in sourcing Cornish-grown barley, doing our bit for our corner of the planet or enjoying a bit of surfing and shanty-singing. HAND OF THE BREWER IN EVERY PINT As Head Taster, Steve Skinner still loves nothing better than working with our small team of Master Brewers, experimenting with whole-flower hops and the finest Cornish ingredients. It s an approach that s produced incredible new hop-forward beers like Porthleven and Lushingtons. You can taste our brewing experience, pioneer spirit and love of fine ale in every pint. TAKING CARE AT EVERY BREWING STAGE As with everything we do, we take care and this means we re committed to minimising our impact on the environment by minimising water usage, materials and process waste, and by using local ingredients that can be recycled by local farms as feed. Our aim is not to use anything we don t need, to reduce consumption of what we do need and to recycle wherever we can along the way. 14 SWALLOW Harvest Pale is brewed with a gentlykilned malt, and an aromatic blend of American hops added during the brewing process gives this 3.8% alc pale beer exceptional poise. Its distinct hop flavour leads to a crisp finish. Screech Owl is brewed to export strength.
