3 Dear Friends, September was bustling with activity! We took a large group to Cracker Barrel and enjoyed a blue grass band at Rock Springs Nature Center. The Chevy Museum was a wonderful event and so much bigger than we expected. Unfortunately, the lake was too low for our 2 nd pontoon boat trip, but we made up for it with a fantastic fishing trip to Southside Country Club. We thank you for joining in on our many activities. We are hoping to build up our numbers for art, cooking/baking and darts. Let us know how we can make improvements! Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the colors, the cooler temps and the opportunity to watch the farmers harvest their crops. Tanglewood s annual Harvest Celebration is Oct 21 st. Invite your family to enjoy the warmth of the fire, toasting marshmallows, and entertainment. This is a great time to welcome our new residents. And, of course we ll be decorating pumpkins this month! Book Club is starting a new book in October! It s our 3 rd book by local author Richard Peck, about life in Central Illinois in the 30 s & 40 s. Dana reads aloud and brings the characters to life. One final note - Don t forget to get your flu shot on Wednesday Oct. 11 at. Protect yourself for the winter! Blessings for bountiful harvest, Liz

5 I m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers, (Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables). October is the tenth month in the Gregorian calendar. It received its name from the Latin numeral octo meaning "eight", because in the original Roman calendar it was the eighth month. The Anglo-Saxons called October Winterfylleth, meaning the fullness of winter. The Welsh word for October is Hydref a word signifying the lowing of cattle. More US presidents have been born in October than in any other month. October in the Awareness Month for many, many affairs: Be aware! Adopt A Shelter Dog Month American Cheese Month American Pharmacist Month Apple Month Arts & Humanities Month National Applejack Month Breast Cancer Awareness Month Caramel Month Celiac Disease Awareness Month Clergy Appreciation Month Cookbook Month Cookie Month Cyber Security Awareness Month Dessert Month Domestic Violence Awareness Month Dwarfism/Little People Awareness Month Eczema Awareness Month Filipino-American History Month German-American Heritage Month Hispanic Heritage Month Italian-American Heritage Month Lupus Awareness Month National Arts & Humanities Month National Down Syndrome Awareness Month National Roller Skating Month Pasta Month Pickled Peppers Month Pizza Month Polish-American Heritage Month Popcorn Popping Month Pork Month Positive Awareness Month Pretzel Month National Month of Sarcasm Seafood Month October Gemstone: Opal October Flower: Calendula The Zodiac signs for October are Libra and Scorpio.
