1 The Charger Chronicles Immaculate Conception School Parent Newsletter September 1, 2018 Volume 9 Issue 1 From the Principal Dear Parents, The new year has gotten off to a great start. I hope you had a restful Labor Day Holiday, especially with the two added bonus days due to TS Gordon. Let s pray that our remaining hurricane season is uneventful. Thank you for attending our orientation evening last week. I hope you received information that will help you partner more closely with us for your child s academic success. Please don t hesitate to contact me, if I can ever be of service to you or your child. I can most easily be reached at k.dimarco@icschargers.org, or you may call me or the office to set up an appointment. The big focus this year is our AdvancED reaccreditation review visit on April 24th and 25th. Please keep us in your prayers as we work on our self study and improvement plan. You, as an ICS stakeholder are an integral part of this process, and your input is imperative to growth and improvement. We need your help in completing two short surveys by using these links: Parent Opinion Poll: ICS Climate and Culture: For those of you who stopped by the office during orientation, and completed the surveys, thank you so much! We are asking that all parents take these two short surveys no later than Friday, September 21st. Students and faculty will also be surveyed in order for us to get the most complete data. The input of all stakeholders is essential to developing a school self improvement plan and in making ICS the best it can be! Again this school year, I will attempt to continue Lunch with the Principal in order to know the students and their experiences better. Please refer to the monthly calendar as to each home room s Lunch with the Principal date. Speaking of the monthly calendar, we will it at the beginning of each month along with this, the Charger Chronicles, and the school menu. Although we do try our best to not make changes to the original calendar we sent in July, sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances that necessitate changes to the calendar, so please check the monthly calendar for changes, new events, and added information. We are excited to announce a new program here at ICS this year called Read a Tale, Wag a Tail in which ICS will be partnering with the Jefferson Parish SPCA. With parental permission, our 1st through 3rd graders will have the opportunity to read to shelter dogs. Research shows that this improves students oral reading fluency, strengthens reading comprehension skills, and boosts self-confidence. It also increases the dogs socialization skills, thus improving adoption chances. The Chargers are ready to paws for a cause! We hope you are too! Sincerely, Kim DiMarco

7 August 31, 2018 Dear ICS Families, It is time for our ICS WHO DAT Back to School Raffle. Started in 2016, the ICS WHO DAT Back to School Raffle has generated over $56,000 for our school in the last two years. Once again our school has been generously gifted a set of tickets to attend a New Orleans Saints game in the luxury of a suite. The ICS WHO DAT Back to School Raffle is a calendar raffle with a prize for each day from October 1 through October 31. Cash prizes range from $25.00 to $ each day for a total of over $5,000 in cash giveaways. The grand prize is a game day package for the New Orleans Saints against the 2018 Super Bowl champs Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, November 18, The game day package includes four suite tickets, food and beverages, and a dome lot parking pass. We are requesting that each family sell one book/ 10 tickets for the 2018 raffle. The donation is $10.00 for each ticket ($100 for the entire book). Our goal is to sell 5,000 tickets for a profit of approximately $45,000 for our school. Together we can make this goal a reality. As a special thank you for selling raffle tickets, for each 10 tickets sold you will receive a special ICS/Saints t- shirt. Students may wear the t-shirt on designated days throughout the football season. In addition, the students who sold a winning raffle ticket will also receive a prize and there will be incentives for selling multiple books of tickets. See the accompanying flyer for prize incentives. Weekly drawings will be held every Monday morning during the month of October. Tickets pulled go back into the drawing after each day s prizes are drawn, so ticket holders have multiple chances to win! We value your participation in this raffle and look forward to cheering on the Black and Gold with you this football season. Blessings, Mrs. Kim DiMarco Principal Mrs. Silvana Collins Advancement Director P.S. If you do not intend to participate in the Who Dat Raffle, please return your tickets to school by Tuesday, September 4th. All ticket money and t-shirt orders are due Tuesday, September 18th.
