2 Kappeli s atmospheric cellar area caters for festive events for groups of 20 to 150 guests. With its vaulted ceilings, intimate lighting, large wood-burning fireplace and old murals dating back more than 100 years, Kappelin Kellari sets a perfect backdrop for a memorable occasion. Prohibition hit Finland in 1919, banning the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages. During the 13-year ordeal, however, Kappeli s cellar housed a much-frequented speakeasy that served up hard tea (half tea, half spirit) to its thirsty patrons artists, among others. When all tapped out, some of the artists would pay their billsby doing paintings directly on the walls. Their works still adorn the walls of the cellar today.
