10 Cell Phone Etiquette With the marked increase in cell phone use here at the Center, now is a good time to remind folks of a few simple guidelines for public use of these handy devices. Ringtones Ringtones featuring loud music or unusual noises are obnoxious in a public setting, so please select your ringtones accordingly. Keep The Volume Down Be respectful. Your phone conversation is not any more important than the live conversations going on around you. This is especially important to remember since most people tend to unknowingly talk a bit louder when using their cellphones. You may forget that everyone around you can hear every single word you say. Not only can what you say be misconstrued, a steady stream of onesided chatter will likely be annoying to others. Keep your volume down, or excuse yourself and find a private place to talk. Speakerphone Avoid using a speakerphone where there is open space such as the lounge, the restroom and the bus. If you can find a quiet room and shut the door, this is ideal. Dining Put your phone on vibrate to prevent creating unnecessary noise if your cell phone rings during a meal. Only make outgoing calls if necessary, and keep them brief. When people call you, let them know that you are eating, and unless it s an emergency, tell them you ll call back later. Keep your voice as low as possible. Senior Center Specifics The lounge is a place for folks to gather and enjoy each other s company. It is also directly adjacent to the staff work areas. We enjoy the happy hum of activity, but excessive volume can make it difficult for us to complete our daily tasks. Please keep in mind these are guidelines there is no cell phone police patrolling the area. Your cooperation will make for a happier environment for all.
