1 Oregon City High School Commemorating the 75 th Anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor Dana Henson, Director November 23 29, 2016 The following itinerary provides an overview of your tour events and timings. ** It is important to understand that times and activities are subject to change before or during the tour. ** Tuesday, November 22, 2016 Luggage Check In 6:00 pm 7:00 pm: All luggage and instruments being taken on the trip must be brought to the school between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. We will be checking for uniforms and then attaching a Gateway luggage tag to mark your bag as ready to go. Luggage/instruments will be left overnight in the school. *Confirm flight numbers and departure times with your airline at least 24 hours prior to flight. Wednesday, November 23, 2016 Departure 5:30 am: Arrive at OCHS with your carry-on bag. We will be loading busses with checked baggage and instruments at this time. 6:00 am: Travel by bus to the airport and check in for our flight. All travelers must take the school bus to the airport as a group. Government-issued identification is required of all passengers 18 years of age and older. School picture ID is required for all student travelers. *Confirm flight numbers and departure times with your airline the day of departure for any updates. Lunch Arrival On your own Aloha! Arrive at the Honolulu Airport and receive a traditional fresh flower lei greeting. Walk to baggage claim as a group where you will meet your Gateway Tour Manager, Jolene Clarke, and local Polynesian Guide. Identify your luggage and transfer from the airport to your hotel. Jolene will assist with hotel check-in. You may have a brief hotel security meeting with one of the hotel managers upon arrival. *Please make sure you have any items or medication you will need upon arrival in Honolulu in your carry on. The hotel has noted that it could take a couple of hours for your checked luggage to be delivered to your room by the bellmen.

Menu: Your choice of cheeseburger, Hawaiian chicken, black bean burger or Caesar salad. All sandwiches come with French fries. All meals come with a soda, iced tea, coffee or hot tea.
3 3 Thursday, November 24, :45 am Hot buffet breakfast at the hotel Buffet menu typically includes: Eggs, ham or bacon, pancakes, tater tots, hash browns, or oatmeal, seasonal fruit, juice, coffee and tea Leisure Day Lunch Waikiki Beach has something for everyone! You can sign up for a surprisingly inexpensive outrigger canoe ride or attempt surfing lessons. You may rent boogie boards and canoes on the beach, or perhaps you just want to relax on a catamaran cruise or soak up the sun from the beach. On your own 6:00 pm Thanksgiving dinner at your hotel Buffet menu: Tossed greens with dressings, chef choice vegetable medley, Turkey, sliced ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, pumpkin dessert, water stations, coffee and juice
4 4 Friday, November 25, :15 am Load instrument truck. 6:45 am Hot buffet breakfast at the hotel Buffet menu typically includes: Eggs, ham or bacon, pancakes, tater tots, hash browns, or oatmeal, seasonal fruit, juice, coffee and tea 7:45 am Depart in uniform for the USS Missouri Battleship. National Security at Pearl Harbor Because Pearl Harbor is an active military base, they strongly enforce the following: No purses, handbags, fanny packs, backpacks, camera bags, diaper bags, luggage or other items that offer concealment are allowed in the visitor center or on the memorial. Strollers with pockets and compartments must be emptied before being allowed in the visitor s center. Personal cameras (out of their cases) are allowed, but camera cases are not. Baggage storage is not available and there are no alternatives in the local area for bag storage. You may not leave any items on your motorcoach. USS Missouri Battleship The USS Missouri is the fourth ship and the second battleship to bear the name of the Show Me state. The ship was the last battleship commissioned by the USA, and in 1992 was the world s last operational battleship. The ship provided gunfire support for many famous and important battles of WWII. On September 2, 1945, the ship was chosen to be the stage for the signing of Japan s Formal Instrument of Surrender, bringing an end to the war. You will be given some time to explore this magnificent battleship on your own. Be sure to locate the spot where the surrender treaty was signed. A group photo will be taken and each passenger receives one as a keepsake. USS Arizona Memorial The USS Arizona is the final resting place for many of the ship s 1,177 crewmen who lost their lives on December 7, The Memorial structure stands over the mid-portion of the sunken battleship. A representative from your group will present a wreath at the base of the marble wall where the names of those killed on the Arizona are engraved. Your visit includes a 75-minute program that consists of a film depicting events leading up to and attack of Pearl Harbor, and a ferry ride to the Memorial. While at the visitor center, you will have an opportunity to visit the museum, bookstore and waterfront exhibits. 8:45 am Arrive at the USS Missouri Battleship. 8:55 am Self-tour of the USS Missouri Battleship 9:45 am Prepare instruments, set up and warm up for your performance. 10:10 am March onto pier. 10:15 am Tribute performance by the Oregon City High School Marching Band (30 minutes in length) Performance specs: Repertoire at the USS Missouri Battleship should encompass patriotic, military or period pieces. Your performance time is up to 30 minutes in length. Gateway obtains advance authorization and secures a performance time. Audiences are ambient, comprised of people visiting the site. Required attire: Marching band uniform and/or Aloha shirt with white pants and white shoes. 10:45 am Flag presentation 10:55 am Take group photo at the USS Missouri Battleship. 11:10 am Load instruments onto instrument truck. Water will be provided for the group
5 5 11:30 am Transfer via exclusive bus shuttle to the USS Arizona Visitor Center. 12:00 pm Lunch provided at the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center Menu: Ham, turkey and cheese on fresh baked croissant, chips, seasonal fruit, dessert and beverage (vegetarian garden salad available upon advance request) 12:50 pm Prepare instruments, set up and warm up for your performance. 1:20 pm Tribute performance by the Oregon City High School Marching Band (30 minutes in length) Performance specs: Repertoire at Pearl Harbor Museum & Visitor Center must be approved prior to performance by the National Park Service and must adhere to National Park Service s requirements. Repertoire is restricted to musical pieces arranged and performed up until The repertoire should reflect popular culture of this era as well as military and patriotic music. Please, no music from after Your performance time is up to 30 minutes in length. Audiences are ambient, comprised of people visiting the site. Required attire: Marching band uniform and/or Aloha shirt with white pants and white shoes. 1:50 pm Load instruments onto instrument truck. Water will be provided for the group. Film Group 1 ( group members): 2:00 pm Line up for film. 2:15 pm USS Arizona Memorial Film Time Take shuttle boat to the USS Arizona Memorial. 3:30 pm Tour ends. Film Group 2 (70 group members): 2:15 pm Line up for film. 2:30 pm USS Arizona Memorial Film Time Take shuttle boat to the USS Arizona Memorial. 3:45 pm Tour ends. Film Group 3 ( group members): 2:30 pm Line up for film. 2:45 pm USS Arizona Memorial Film Time Take shuttle boat to the USS Arizona Memorial. 4:00 pm Tour ends. All group members: 4:10 pm Depart for your hotel. Upon arrival, grab a quick snack on the Hilton Hawaiian Village property. 6:00 pm Meet as a group and walk to Fort DeRussy for parade line-up. You will meet your instrument truck at Fort DeRussy to unload instruments and warm-up. *Parade line up and step off details will be provided the week of the parade.
6 6 7:00 pm Parade begins. Jolene and local Polynesian Guide will meet you at the end of the parade marks the 75 th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The commemorates this event each year. The parade is host to local Hawaiian bands, marching bands from the mainland, Pearl Harbor Survivors, service bands, military units, local officials and dignitaries who march in the, paying tribute to this major historical event. The parade, founded in 1998 by Jake Peppers, is host to thousands of spectators, residents and visitors alike. The parade begins at 7:00 pm at Fort DeRussy, travels down Kalakaua Avenue and is approximately one and one-half miles in length, ending at Queen Kapiolani Park. Required attire: Marching band uniform One bottle of water per student will be available at the end of the parade route. Dinner Students and staff board school buses at Queen Kapiolani Park and return to the hotel. Unload instrument truck at the hotel. On your own
7 7 Saturday, November 26, :00 am Hot buffet breakfast at the hotel Buffet menu typically includes: Eggs, ham or bacon, pancakes, tater tots, hash browns, or oatmeal, seasonal fruit, juice, coffee and tea 8:00 am Depart your hotel. Pali Lookout The Nuuanu Pali Lookout is a favorite stop. It gives you a panoramic view of the Windward side of the island located at Nuuanu Pali State Park. The lookout overlooks the 985-foot cliffs of the Koolau Mountain Range. (Translated, "pali" means "cliffs.") The trade winds blow through the valley between the high mountains on either side, forming a strong wind tunnel of sorts. On extra windy days, you can even lean into the wind and let the gusts hold you up. Pali Lookout was the setting for one of the most significant battles in Hawaiian history. In 1795 it is said to be here where King Kamehameha conquered the island of Oahu to unify the Hawaiian Islands. 10:00 am Arrive at Kualoa Ranch s Moli i boat dock to be driven across the ancient Hawaiian fish pond to Secret Island. Upon arrival at the island, walk the winding pathway through the island s hau tree tunnels and arrive on the private white sand beach of Secret Island. There you will have access to the island equipment such as volleyball, outrigger canoe, kayaks, table tennis, beach mats and snorkel equipment. 11:30 am Enjoy the Kualoa Ranch lunch buffet. Menu: Kualoa Field Green Salad, fresh pineapple wedges, kimchi, BBQ pork ribs, buttered corn, mango pineapple Teriyaki chicken, homemade beef chili, steamed white rice, Chef s choice dessert, iced water, tropical fruit punch 1:30 pm Begin to depart the island by pontoon boat. 1:50 pm Load coaches and depart for your hotel. Approx. 3:30 pm Enjoy free time at the hotel. 6:45 pm Meet as a group and walk to dinner. 7:00 pm Dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe Waikiki. The one-of-a-kind Rock Wall solo gives the ability to deep zoom into memorabilia of music legends, such as Elvis, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Jack Johnson, and many more while learning about each piece s history. Before you leave, don t forget to pick up one of the world-famous t-shirts to add to your collection. Menu: Your choice of burger, cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, honey mustard grilled chicken sandwich, pasta with marinara sauce, BBQ pulled pork sandwich, or classic chicken Caesar salad. All burger platters come with French fries. All meals come with a dessert, unlimited soft drinks, coffee or iced tea.
8 8 Sunday, November 27, :30 am Hot buffet breakfast at the hotel Buffet menu typically includes: Eggs, ham or bacon, pancakes, tater tots, hash browns, or oatmeal, seasonal fruit, juice, coffee and tea 10:30 am Depart on school buses for Diamond Head. Diamond Head Hike Hike the Diamond Head trail that takes you up to the pinnacle of Diamond Head, an inactive volcano. The hike is about 3/4 of a mile up a fairly steep grade. You may want to bring some water for this journey. Often windy and always beautiful, this perch gives an unobstructed view of Waikiki Beach and downtown Honolulu. 1:00 pm Depart for your hotel. Lunch Free time On your own Enjoy free time at the hotel. 4:10 pm Load school buses and depart for Kapiolani Park. 4:30 pm Gather at Queen Kapiolani Park for a traditional Hawaiian catered picnic. Menu: Tossed greens with Italian dressing, grilled teriyaki chicken, mahimahi katsu (a crispy panko coated filet) with tatar sauce, corn niblets with peppers and onions, steamed rice, macaroni salad, dinner rolls with butter, assorted juice and water, pineapple upsidedown cake 5:40 pm Load school buses and return to your hotel.

Dole Explore the world s largest pineapple maze at the Dole Plantation. Admission into the maze is included in your package. We have a special surprise for the fastest person to complete the maze. Lunch North Shore Polynesian Cultural Center On your own at the Polynesian Cultural Center En route to the Polynesian Cultural Center, view the world famous Banzai Pipeline and the beautiful Sunset Beach, site of Baywatch Hawaii. Explore the Polynesian Cultural Center this afternoon. The center invites you to discover seven different Polynesian villages and cultures, including the islands of Tonga, Tahiti, Marquesas, Samoa, New Zealand, Fiji, and Hawaii, portrayed through performances, demonstrations, and native artifacts. Lunch On your own at the airport Note regarding packing suitcases: Due to mandatory agricultural baggage checks at the airport, it is not safe to pack film in your suitcases. The agricultural machine will damage your film so please pack film in your carry-on. Also note that no perishable foods or plants are allowed off the island unless they have been inspected and tagged with permission to leave the island.
