Kelvin Grove Club As an exclusive social and sports Club, and being the biggest Sports Club in South Africa, Kelvin Grove is the ultimate venue to enjoy sport, entertain friends or meet new people.

The Club provides a pleasant and social environment at very reasonable rates. With so much on offer, why not be part of a community of people of all ages, cultures and creeds and become a members of this wonderful home away from home. An established Club which has been in existence for more than 80 years, Kelvin Grove has many wonderful facilities to offer its members in secure surroundings, the club boasts a hassle free parking facility and 24 hour security, 363 days a year. The Club is closed on Christmas Day and Good Friday. Kelvin Grove has a long-standing reciprocity with the most prestigious Clubs in the world for the benefit of members. 2

3 Sporting Facilities In keeping with the modern trend towards a healthy, active lifestyle, there are more sport and leisure activities to be enjoyed at Kelvin Grove than can be found at today s newest and most up-to-date city and suburban exercise centres. Besides having a 15 metre sparkling swimming pool, the Club also offers meticulously maintained greens, a fully managed fitness centre and various other facilities. The Fitness Centre At Kelvin Grove fitness centre we offer a friendly and inviting atmosphere with excellent training experience that meets the health and fitness needs of all members. We recently completed renovations to the fitness centre to create additional space for dedicated free weights area with a wide range of dumbbells, barbells, plates, benches, stretching and floor exercises area, added some exciting brand new cardio and strength training equipment to the existing ones. We offer Pilates classes at our premises. In addition to it we have an amazing rugby field where members can run outdoors. Whether your goal is general fitness, weight loss, toning, core and strength training, functional fitness, or sports specific training, we have qualified trainers who specialise in all areas of fitness to devise a customized training plan, motivate and guide you to achieve your goals in a most enjoyable way. Open Monday to Sunday (including public holidays) from 05:00 to 21:00 with personal trainers available on request to create a training programme for you. 4

Tennis Kelvin is proud to be associated with various National and International Tennis Tournaments and events.

Courts may be reserved through the Reception office, or members can also book online through the clubs online booking system. Two courts are kept free at all times for general play.

Details are available from Reception. Tennis balls may be purchased from the reception office. Squash Kelvin is proud to be associated with various National and International squash events.

The Club is next door to the world-famous Newlands Cricket Ground and Test Rugby Stadium, the home of Western Province and the Stormers. Bowls The Club has two bowling greens.

4 Tennis Kelvin is proud to be associated with various National and International Tennis Tournaments and events. The Club has eleven tennis courts including eight zfloodlit courts and one practise court. Courts may be reserved through the Reception office, or members can also book online through the clubs online booking system. Two courts are kept free at all times for general play. If there is a demand for these courts, they must be vacated at the end of each set. Social tennis is played every first Sunday of each month. For more information contact the Tennis Manager. Details are available from Reception. Tennis balls may be purchased from the reception office. Squash Kelvin is proud to be associated with various National and International squash events. The Club has eight squash courts which are well patronised and members may make reservations up to 48 hours in advance by phoning the reception office during office hours. The Club is next door to the world-famous Newlands Cricket Ground and Test Rugby Stadium, the home of Western Province and the Stormers. Bowls The Club has two bowling greens. Members wishing to join the bowling section are asked to contact the Bowls Chairperson. Details are available from Reception. Croquet There are two full size croquet courts which are regarded as being the best in the Western Cape. The section plays in the Western Cape Croquet Association leagues and holds several in house competitions throughout the season. Social plays is on Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings throughout the year. Anyone wishing to join the croquet section are asked to contact a committee member details of which are on the croquet notice board. The club has its very own 15 metre sparkling swimming pool Bridge Social bridge is played every Monday and Friday afternoon from 2-5 pm. Ballroom Dancing Got 2 left feet? Learn to dance social favourites like the Waltz, Boogie, Jive, Foxtrot, Cha cha cha and more in a fun, relaxed setting. Adult classes take place every Monday night at Kelvin Grove. 6 Banqueting Facilities Kelvin Grove has various rooms available from a small meeting room to the 400-seater Ballroom with dance floor, which is popular amongst members for Wedding receptions, launches and Old Boys dinners. As a member you have the privilege of hosting your birthday, wedding and/or anniversaries in our private function rooms without paying for the Room Hire*. Terms and Conditions apply. Some of the more popular venues are: The Ballroom The famous Ballroom, completed in 1934, features Austrian Crystal chandeliers and an elegance of a bygone era. It prides itself on having the biggest sprung dance floor in Cape Town, if not South Africa. It is the perfect venue for anyone who enjoys special occasions on a grand scale for up to 400 people. The Grill Room This elegant and gracious venue with its balcony is very popular as an up-market entertainment area, with a view that overlooks the pool area and provides spectacular vistas of Table Mountain. This room can be adapted to serve carvery meals and host dinner dances and other special occasions and can accommodate up to 120 people. It is ideal as a conference venue. The Pavilion The new addition added to Kelvin Grove, Located between two sports fields, and with the openness of the design at the upper floor provides views over both, it is a modern facility with a built in bar and braai. The Brodie Suite The suite consists of 3 luxuriously appointed rooms which can be used as a single venue (can cater up to 30 people) or as smaller individual venues for cocktail parties, meetings, wedding receptions, luncheons and dinners etc. All 3 rooms have access to a balcony overlooking the famous Kelvin gardens. 10

The Terrace Restaurant This is the Club s fine dining restaurant. It is an attractive venue for members wishing to enjoy lunch or dinner in an upmarket and unrushed setting.

It appeals not only to businessmen, but also to lady members who use it as a popular safe meeting place for a quiet lunch or dinner in dignified surroundings.

7 The Terrace Restaurant This is the Club s fine dining restaurant. It is an attractive venue for members wishing to enjoy lunch or dinner in an upmarket and unrushed setting. Its large windows face the back of Table Mountain and Devil s Peak and overlook the beautifully landscaped gardens around the pool. It appeals not only to businessmen, but also to lady members who use it as a popular safe meeting place for a quiet lunch or dinner in dignified surroundings. The restaurant is the perfect venue for that special celebration or for a romantic dinner for two. In summer al fresco lunches are served on the outside patio in a more informal atmosphere. Freshly made sushi and Oriental cuisine is available in this restaurant. The restaurant offers daily lunch and dinners (Closed for dinner on Sundays and closed all day on Mondays). Sushi & Champagne Bar Enjoy a drink at the bar while watching the chef create some wonderful freshly made sushi and Oriental cuisine, which is also available in the Terrace Restaurant. Take away meals can also be arranged. Remember: This area is closed on Sunday, Monday and all public holidays or as otherwise advertised. The Wine Cellar This facility is adjoining the Terrace restaurant. Here you can select your own bottle of wine. Leading off this wine cellar is a small private dining room which is available for that intimate party. The Waterside The Waterside area, the more informal part of the Club, is situated around the Club s swimming pool and is close to the fitness centre and Kelvin s sporting facilities.

This area consists of the Pool Bar, the Waterside Restaurant and an informal braai area under the magnificent magnolia tree. The Pool Bar is popular on Fridays after work as a relaxed meeting place to enjoy a drink, especially with our variety of live music and DJs. Please check the events calendar to see who is playing each Friday. An all-day breakfast and a light meal can be ordered from the Waterside Restaurant. The Pool Bar and the Waterside Restaurant are the perfect spots to enjoy a light meal and watch your favourite sport on flat-screen TVs, and are also popular watering holes before and after major sporting events. Please note this area is also a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Pool Bar This popular after work meeting place is frequented by members of all ages. Kelvin Grove s own resident DJ will have you dancing every Friday night. Light snacks can be ordered from the Waterside kitchen. The Pool Bar with its flat screen is a popular watering hole before and after major sporting events. 14

It offers a relaxed and informal ambience with a variety of meals at very affordable prices and with our pizza oven, the Barn is a popular destination at the Club. Coffee Shop Kelvin s own Coffee Shop has Wi-Fi facilities and offers assorted cakes, treats, snacks and sandwiches served until 18:00. Enjoy freshly brewed coffee and tea in a relaxed atmosphere while keeping in touch with your family and friends via the internet facilities available. In winter, enjoy the warmth of a crackling fire while reading the newspaper or watching the flat screen. 16

10 Membership Below are the requirements for joining Kelvin Grove Club: Application Forms Individual or Corporate Membership Application forms are available from Reception or from the Membership Department. Application Process A registration fee is payable on each application form one application form is required per candidate. The candidate is required to complete the application form in FULL. One proposer and one seconder will be required to complete the application both the proposer and seconder need to be current members of the club for 5 years or more and be known to the member for at least 2 years. If you do not have a proposer or seconder a short interview will be setup for you with the General Manager. Once the application has been completed in full and each page initialled where requested, return it to the Club with the registration fee and a copy of your ID. You will be given a receipt for this payment. The application takes approximately 6-8 weeks to process. 18
