1 The Plantation Club at The Dunes 310 Dunes Boulevard Naples, Florida, Office: (239) Fax: (239) The Official Newsletter of the Dunes of Naples Volume 6, Issue 6 March - April 2016 The Club s Letter Dear Member, The season is upon us and it is great to see everyone at the Club started out slow due to the weather but is off to great start in February and all the activities have been well attended. I want to thank Sandy Anderson and Samm McMahon for spearheading our programs and activities calendar. Their efforts have resulted in the development of our speaker series, painting on canvas, talent show and our special Ladies' Day Wednesday. The POA Board and the Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) are moving forward with our master facility planning. The focus groups have been well attended and have provided valuable feedback to the architectural design group. Based on all the planning and feedback a master facility presentation is forthcoming. There are a lot of activities in March and April. Our big event in March is the Beach Boys Tribute in the courtyard on Wednesday, March 9. Then in April come and say farewell at our Keep Calm & Party All Night end of the season party on Wednesday, April 13. A couple of housekeeping reminders: 1. Please note that all reservations for Special Club events require a 48 hour notice of cancellation. Any reservations that are not cancelled within the time frame will be billed unless we are able to fill the reservation from the wait list. Cancellations must be made with the Club s receptionist or manager. 2. No personal food, beverage, or coolers are permitted in the Pool or Tiki Bar area while the Club is open. Any violation of this policy will result in the removal of said items. 3. Lounge chairs at the Pool cannot be reserved. Any chair abandoned for ½ hour is considered relinquished and available to any member or guest. Also, if you are leaving for the summer and not sure when you will return this fall, please make sure you have used all your food & beverage minimum. Wishing you the very best. See you at the Club. 2 As we find ourselves in the height of season, the kitchen team is working on a new menu revision for March. We have received numerous menu ideas from the membership and we will try to incorporate as many as possible in either the core menu or weekly specials. Target date for the revision will be the first week in March. Bon Appetite, Scott Estelle Executive Chef Thank you for continuing to support the club. We are continuing to make strides to improve consistency while attempting to better organize the production of banquets, casual tiki fare and upscale wine dinners within the same workspace at the same time. We appreciate your patience as we are approaching the busy spring break season that will bring the highest volume of usage of the season. Cook times will be heavily influenced by volume and equipment capabilities. Please enjoy the easy to prepare recipe that follows. The kitchen department wishes you a safe and happy spring Chocolate Pots De Crème 1. Preheat oven to 325 F. Bring cream and milk just to simmer in heavy Recipe medium saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat. Add chocolate; Ingredients 2 cups whipping cream 1/2 cup whole milk 5 ounces bittersweet (not unsweetened) or semisweet chocolate, chopped 6 large egg yolks 1/3 cup sugar whisk until melted and smooth. Whisk yolks and sugar in large bowl to blend. Gradually whisk in hot chocolate mixture. Strain mixture into another bowl. Cool 10 minutes, skimming any foam from surface. 2. Divide custard mixture among six 3/4-cup custard cups or soufflé dishes. Cover each with foil. Place cups in large baking pan. Add enough hot water to pan to come halfway up sides of cups. Bake until custards are set but centers still move slightly when gently shaken, about 55 minutes. Remove from water. Remove foil. Chill custards until cold, about 3 hours. (Can be made 2 days ahead. Cover and keep chilled.) Hello Plantation Club!!! I can t believe how time flies when we have fun, and I hope everyone is having fun. It has been great to see all the familiar faces and many new faces coming back since the start of the New Year. January weather was not the best and so, like me, all of you are happy to see February finally bring that beautiful sunshine and warmth. What a great Valentine s Day we had at the Club. I was happy to see so many people come and enjoy the special occasion with us. As we spring into March we have many great events coming up. We will be continuing the Sunday music through the month of March. We will have 2 speaker series March 7 and March 21. On March 9, we will feature a tribute to The Beach Boys. As always we will have the famous Plantation Club St. Paddy's Day party featuring free beer while it lasts. We will have another fabulous Bingo Night on Tuesday, March 29 and we will be playing for high stakes. Cheers, Steve Brown F&B Manager Easter this year is early on March 27, so please make your reservation early as we will fill up quick. Remember the Easter Egg hunt is at 10:29 a.m. on Easter Sunday. Also don t forget the kids extravaganza on Saturday, March 26 from noon to 3 p.m. There will be a waterslide, balloon making, face painting and music. I encourage everyone to make reservations early for all events. This will help provide better service to all the members. Look for the March Madness Final Game as we plan to have a little extra this year. The End of Season Party will be Wednesday, April 13 so make those plans to say good bye to all your friends before you head north. 2

7 Tennis News The Dunes is experiencing its most active year ever with all events being fully attended. Five teams are competing in county leagues and at the present time two of the women's teams are tied for first and our men's team is in third place, one win away from the lead. Hopefully, one of these teams will bring back the coveted banner to our club. January's exhibition was a great one with excellent food and plenty of drinks to assure everyone a pleasant afternoon. Our Down/ Under party was filled and while Anne Summer and Tom Fodell were winning the prizes the rest of the field enjoyed some Australian beverage and food, and maybe even a little tennis. Below are listed the main events for March. Professional Tennis Exhibition Saturday, March 12 3 p.m. This is our second exhibition of the season.
