3 GEORGIA COUNTY HISTORY BOOKS EVHS is trying co collect a set of history books for each county in the state of Georgia. This is a list of the books that are needed co complete this set. If you have one that you are willing co donate co the collection, please contact Linda Cochran at the EVHS office. May 25th - June 4th 1864 Battles about Dallas, New Hope Church and Pickett's Mill. June 9th - 39th 1864 Kennesaw Mountain period of Gen. WT. Sherman's Atlanta campaign, including Pine Mountain, Gilgal Church, Big Shanty and general assault on Kennesaw Mountain. July 2nd - 5th 1864 Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's army flanked out of Smyrna Station lines. July 6th - 10th 1864 Gen. WT. Sherman crossed Chattahoochee River. July 18th 1864 Gen. Joseph E. Johnston replaced by Gen. John B. 5 July 28th 1864 Bartle of Ezra Church near Atlanta. July 28th to September 2nd 1864 Siege of Atlanta. August 1st - 31st 1864 Siege of Atlanta continued, with cavalry raids on railroads to rear. August 31st - September 1st 1864 Bartle of Jonesboro. September 2nd 1864 Atlanta surrendered to Sherman. October 1st - 15th 1864 Gen. John B. Hood's raid in force against Gen. WT. Sherman's communications, with engagements at Big Shanty, Acworth, Allatoona Pass, Resaca and Dalton. November 5th 1864 The City of Cassville burned. November 16th 1864 Gen. WT. Sherman left Atlanta for March to the Sea. November 21st 1864 Georgia State troops defeated at Griswoldville. November 26th 1864 Gen. Joseph Wheeler's cavalry engagement at Sandersville. December 10th - 21st 1864 Siege of Savannah. December 13th 1864 Fr. McAllister captured by Gen. WT. Sherman. December 21st 1864 Savannah evacuated is rhe Sesquicentennial of these actions. 6 2013 ANNUAL MEETING AT GRAND OAKS The VHS Annual Meeting, held on October 11, 2013 was a unique experience chis year, as the meeting was held before dinner in the garden at Grand Oaks. Attendees enjoyed cooling beverages while watching a slide video of pictures made at all the events and activities sponsored by EVHS during the year. A presentation on the EVH web page was made by Joe Head, which included in depth information of the map program and the Bartow Scholars module. A local reacher, Laura Huch from Cartersville Middle School, shared how the use of chis program had been used and enjoyed by her students. Nomination and voting for the Board of Directors was accomplished. After the business meeting, all attendees entered Grand Oaks for a delicious meal 6 EVH Volume89, January201 4
7 CHRISTMAS PARTY AT ROSELAWN The 2013 Christmas Party was held on December 6, 2013 at a superbly decorated Roselawn. Each room was done in a beautiful Victorian image which enhanced the holiday mood. Music by Stephen Lee so lidified the holiday feeling of all who attended. The weather was so warm, it felt more like Spring than Christmas. Arriving attendees stayed on the front porch visiting with each ocher in the balmy weather before entering the house for the sumptuous meal, fel lowship, and yes, even a liccle dancing.
