The deceased's vessel was unloading coals in the creek. The deceased, who was an old man, belonged to Maidstone, but was in the employ of Mr Haymen, of Rochester. ELSIE MAY BASHFORD. Notes for BADEN POWELL MAFEKING FREEBORN: The name 'Baden Powell Mafeking Freeborn' is of certain significance. First of all, Robert Baden Powell was the man who formed the Boy Scout organization January 24, 1908 and I'm not sure of any connection between the two. Secondly, Baden was named after the relief of the Seige of Mafeking during the Boer War in South Africa. According to Muriel Pegg, his grand daughter, Baden had no family of his own and that he and Elsie May were a devoted couple. After Elsie May's death, he was a very lonely man. These are notes from Muriel Pegg to Jack Freeborn. viii. HENRY THOMAS FREEBORN, b. 13 Oct 1903, Milton, Kent, England; d. 21 Jun 1973; m. GLADYS IVORY. 38. ix.
