1 Bremen Elementary-Middle School Parent Bulletin October 12, 2018 Mutual Respect Caring School Community Great Expectations KIWANIS HALLOWEEN PARTY Children (from birth to fifth grade) are invited to wear their favorite Halloween costumes to the annual Kiwanis Halloween Party and Costume Contest on Tuesday, October 30, at the Bremen Elementary-Middle School. Carnival-style games begin at 6:30 p.m. in the gym, followed by a costume contest at 6:45. Refreshments will be available. Don t miss this FREE, family-friendly way to celebrate fall! Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Bremen ART EXHIBIT As part of Downtown Development Week, St. Paul s Lutheran School and Bremen Elementary School have partnered on an art exhibit featuring art work from select grade levels. The art exhibit, held in the Mural Room (Senior Center Apartments across the street from the Town Hall), will be held this Saturday from 11am-1pm. A Viewer s Choice Award will be given to the student with the most votes. The reward will be a $20 dollar gift certificate to a participating Bremen area business! The exhibit features the work of the following: St. Paul s Lutheran School 4 th +5 th grade Self Portraits, St. Paul s Lutheran School 6 th +7 th +8 th grade Positive and Negative Space, and Bremen Elementary School 5 th grade Abstract Trees. Stop in anytime during 11am and 1pm to check out the work! YEARBOOKS ON SALE! Yearbooks are on sale for the school year! Purchase your yearbook early and save! More information is attached to today s bulletin. Prices are as follows: October 5-November 2nd $16 November 3rd-December 21st $18 December 22nd-February 28th $20 TITLE 1 PARENT MEETING There will be a very informative Title 1 parent meeting on Thursday, October 18 from 5:30 to 6:30 P.M. Please enter through Door 9 in the front of the elementary building and someone will meet you there to escort you to the Large Group Room. MOBILE DENTIST COMING OCTOBER On October 18 & 19 the mobile dentist will be at our school. Enrollment forms were sent home with all children in grades K-5. If middle school students need a form, please contact the school nurse. To take advantage of this opportunity to have your child see the dentist at school, please fill out and sign the enrollment form and return it to school with your child. Please be sure to read the entire form, check any boxes that apply and send payment if needed. Reduced cost and grant information is available and must be marked on the form. Together, we can keep our children healthy, in school, and learning. LOST AND FOUND OVERFLOWING! The Lost and Found table next to the nurse s office is overflowing! We will be donating any non claimed items next Friday, October 19th. Please take a look this week for any of your missing items!!!

We invite students in grades 6-12 to participate by finishing this writing prompt: "Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change." Entries must be between 500 and 1,000 words. Submit entries via to Chris Scandling at cscandling@bremen.lib.in.us or deliver a printed copy to the library by Friday, Oct. 19. Ten winners will be chosen and notified on Wednesday, Oct. 22. Each winner will receive a Frankenstein T- shirt and a $15 gift card for Barnes & Noble. In addition, the top 10 stories will be featured on Bremen Public Library's YA Blog, "A Series of Fortunate Events," Oct SPORTING EVENTS 10/16 7/8 Football Urey H 5:00 pm 14U BASEBALL TRYOUTS The Bremen 14U team will hold tryouts Saturday, October 13th and Sunday, October 14th from 3pm-5pm at the Pony League field (adjacent to the batting cages near the little league fields). To be eligible, players cannot be 15 before 5/1/19. We would like the players to attend BOTH days if at all possible. We anticipate a season of games to start in Mid-April and end in Mid-July. We hope to keep 11 or 12 players on the team. The tryout will consist of basic hitting, fielding and throwing drills as well as some pitching evaluations. If you have any questions, please don t hesitate to or text Joe Stiles. stiles54@mac.com or BREMEN VOLLEYBALL IS GOING TO THE ZONE THIS WINTER! Bremen wants to take teams to THE ZONE to participate in a winter volleyball league. Anyone from 4th-8th grade can participate. The cost is $70 per person. This includes team shirt and registration fees. We play on Saturdays from November 3rd-December 8th. Please have forms and money turned in to Mrs. Fitch in the bookstore by October 15th! YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE The Bremen High School Boys and Girls basketball programs will be running a youth league again this winter. We will practice and play on Saturday afternoons, and all games and practices will be held in the Bremen Middle or High School gyms. The tentative dates for the league will be on 5 consecutive Saturdays, beginning January 12th, 2019 and running through February 9, This will be for grades 3-6, and each session will last 90 minutes. We will practice for approximately 45 minutes each week, immediately followed by a game. We will have additional details available later in the school year including cost and sign up information.
