2 A CHRISTMAS CAROL as esoteric literature What began as a Christmas ghost story became a classic universal tale of an individual s self-examination leading to his redemption. Stephen Roberts will take an alternative look at A Christmas Carol in the light of western esoteric traditions, accompanied by illustrative dramatic readings by John Pickin, who played Scrooge in the much applauded Merlin Theatre production. Friday 4 th December pm Freeman College, 88, Arundel St, Sheffield S NG Admission. 5/ 3 or pay what you can afford We re holding an open mic night and supper club on Friday th December 6-0:30pm in the school hall. We will serve a three-course meal and provide an evenings entertainment. The proceeds of this worthy cause help fund our class trip. Prices are 0 per adult and 5 per child, under 5s are free. Please buy tickets from school reception or on the night. It s not too late to enter for the gingerbread house competition (as most of the people I have spoken to have not yet started baking!) If you are thinking you would like to have a go here is a recipe you could use... *Basic Gingerbread *(I often make 4 times as much so we can make several projects.) / cups, 3.5 oz, 00g flour tbsp ground ginger tbsp golden syrup tbsp black treacle 3 tbsp light brown sugar /4 cup, oz, 50g butter / tsp bicarbonate of soda Open mic night not to be missed Gingerbread house competition Please bring your own instrument if you would like to perform and let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements in advance. Hope to see you there! Thank you, Class Ten. egg beaten Preheat the oven to 350F / 80C / Gas 4 In a large mixing bowl sift the flour and ginger together. In a saucepan, combine the golden syrup, black treacle, sugar and butter. Heat slowly, stirring occasionally until thoroughly melted. Stir the bicarbonate of soda into the mixed mixture and then add this to the flour mixture along with the beaten egg and mix to a dough. Kneed the dough on a floured surface until it is smooth and free from cracks. Roll and cut or model into shape and bake for 0 to 0 minutes, until a light golden brown. To make your house you need to cut and shape the gingerbread to be able to fit together - try searching on the Internet for ideas and dimensions. Buy a box of royal icing and use a piping bag to glue it together. The fun bit is decorating it with sweets! To enter the competition just fill in the entry form below and return to school. We will be setting up the gingerbread house display on Friday 4th December so you need to have them ready for then...happy Baking! Thank you, Zoe Burns and the advent fayre team.
3 Ginger Bread House Competition This year as part of the Advent Fayre Gingerbread theme we thought it would be a nice idea to have a display of gingerbread houses in the centre of the candle dipping room. Folks can walk around and look at the display while dipping and listening to harp music (thanks Sybille). As encouragement to go all out on your designs, we felt a little gentle competition would be appropriate, with a prize awarded for the most creative gingerbread house. There will be a small entry fee of 50p to take part in order to help fund the prize. People will be able to vote by purchasing a voting token and placing it in the jar next to their favourite house. At the end of the day a prize will be awarded to the winning creative team! Please complete the form below to register your team. AND DON T FORGET TO PUT UP AS MANY ADVENT FAYRE POSTERS AS YOU CAN! 5 Advent Fayre food hall donations still needed please Thank you to everyone who has pledged food for the fayre. The updated list is printed below. As you can see there are still a few gaps. We need someone to pick up the sack of potatoes and wash them ready for Saturday morning early so we can pop them in the oven. Someone suggested baked beans in previous fairs... Great for the kids with jackets. We have instant coffee coming but I know there are a few folks who would like the real deal. If anyone can help with that or herbal teabags. We may need more bread and butter as I'm not sure how much Simon and Claire can do on their own! More pizzas are always appreciated...take a look at the list and see what you can offer. Thank you.
