Thursday, November 24 NO SCHOOL, Thanksgiving Day Friday, November 25 NO SCHOOL, Thanksgiving vacation It is very important that parents call the school when their child is sick or absent for any reason. We ask that you call by 8:00 a.m. so we know if we should include them in the daily lunch count. Our final lunch count for students and parents must be reported by 8:30 a.m.

2 Math on a Stick & Turkey Bingo Nov. 22nd 6:00 8:00 P.M. Family math night will be like going to the fair! The fair exhibits will include activities in making shapes and patterns, looking for similarities and differences, and designing beautiful, mathematical creations. Join us for symmetry in nature, patterns in tiles and eggs, treats on a stick and so much more When: Tuesday, November 22 nd ; 6:00 7:00 p.m. Where: Simmons Elementary School Gym Please use the North gym door We will also be playing Turkey Bingo (0.25 per card) for the items needed for a Thanksgiving Dinner. 3 Snow Guidelines for Simmons Elementary The snow is coming sooner than we think. We go out for morning, lunch and afternoon recess until 10 degrees. For the before school recess, we will only go out when it is 10 degrees or above. Students wearing Full Gear may play anywhere on the playground, black top or field. Full gear is defined as coats, boots, snow pants, cap and gloves. Students without boots may only be on snow cleared areas of the black top. After a fresh snowfall, the only area cleared is right next to the wall. Students are not allowed to throw snowballs or play King of the Hill on the snow piles. Students are not allowed to slide on the ice. The Winter Program is right around the corner! Please mark your calendars for our program on December 8 th. Please use the gym door entrance. School Messenger School Messenger is what Simmons Elementary uses to inform parents of school closings and emergencies. To ensure this information reaches you, please have your correct phone numbers to the office.

4 Box Top winners for October were: Colbie Heiser (Kindergarten) and Molly Peterson (First Grade) Thank you to all of the families who made their child s education a priority and attended Parent Teacher Conferences. Working together is the best way to ensure your child s academic success.

5 Puberty DVD Fifth grade parents are invited to preview the puberty DVD s on Tuesday, November 22 nd. The preview session will be held at Mike Miller Elementary, which is located at 3010 Milwaukee Avenue NE. The DVD s will be shown in the Multi Purpose Room at the following times: 5 th grade girls 12:15 p.m. 5 th grade boys 12:45 p.m. These DVD s describe the physical and emotional changes that children go through during puberty. The program for students will be presented at Simmons Elementary on Friday, December 2nd. One of the elementary counselors presents the program for the boys and one of the school nurses presents the program for the girls. If you have any questions regarding these programs, please call the Health Office at JUMPSTART READ FOR THE RECORD On October 27 th our students joined children and adults from around the world to celebrate Jumpstart s Read for the Record. We were a part of the world s largest shared reading experience by registering to read a special edition of, The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone Roach.

7 The Simmons Elementary PTA is sponsoring a CASH WAR November 14 th 18 th Objective: Be the classroom with the most points by collecting coins and using dollars to sabotage other classrooms! Game Rules: 1 coin = +1 point per cent Example: 1 Quarter = +25 points Green Dollar Bills = points Example: One Dollar Bill = 100 points Five Dollar Bill = 500 points The classroom with the most points at the end of the week will receive a pizza party! All proceeds will go to the General PTA Fund. Thank you for your support!
