is required for any baked goods containing flour made from any of the Five Principal Species wheat, barley, spelt, oats, or rye. If they are made with any other type of flour, e.g., potato starch as on Pesach, then is required. However, is required for " Bread" or a " Roll" except when it is baked like a cake and is not eaten as a substitute for bread. Angel Food Cake Apple Cake Apple Strudel Bagel Bran Flakes Bread Brownies Buckwheat (Kashe) Buckwheat Muffins Buckwheat Pancakes As with all cakes, the dough is considered the primary ingredient and only is necessary (Mishnah Berurah 212:1), even if there is less dough than apple, and even if the cake is eaten mainly because of the apple. On the other hand, if there is merely a thin strip of dough, which is intended just to help you handle all the apple, the dough becomes subordinate to the apple and only Ha-aytz need be said. Provided the dough consisted of flour, water, and salt before baking (see Aruch Hashulchan, Orach Chaim 168:47; see also Chazon Ish, Orach Chaim 26:9, who considers bagels to be like regular bread). However, is required for those bagels made of dough which also contain eggs, honey, or butter (Aruch Hashulchan 168:24). Ha-adamah Buckwheat is not a kind of wheat, nor is it even one of the Five Principal Species. It is a legume. Therefore, neither nor can be said over a product of buckwheat unless one of the Five Principal Species, such as wheat flour, even only in part, has been added to it. Thus, if you eat buckwheat alone, only Ha-adamah is said (see Igrot Moshe, Orach Chaim 65). Bun Bread
Cake Butter Cookies Cake Cereal and Milk Made from corn flakes (maize) Ha-adamah (See Rav Moshe Feinstein, Sefer Torah V'hora-ah 12:13). Made from oats Made from rice Made from wheat If you add extra milk to cereal (so that the milk becomes a significant ingredient by itself, is also required (see rule 5). Cheese Cake Cherry Pie or Cake Chocolate Cake Chocolate clair Chowmein Cinnamon Bread Coffee Cake Cookies Corn Bread Corn Muffin Cracked Wheat Bread Crackers Cupcake Date Bread As with all cakes, the dough is considered the primary ingredient and only is necessary (Mishnah Berurah 212:1), even if there is less dough than cheese, and even if the cake is eaten mainly because of the cheese. On the other hand, if there is merely a thin strip of dough, which is intended just to help you handle all the cheese, the dough becomes subordinate to the cheese and only need be said.
Devil's Food Cake Doughnut Dumpling clair English Muffin Farfel Farina French Bread French Toast Fruit Cake Garlic Bread Ginger Bread Graham Crackers Griddle Cakes Grits (cooked) Groats (see Buckwheat) Ha-adamah Hamantaschen Hominy Grits Honey Cake Italian Bread Kashe (see Buckwheat) Ha-adamah Kashe Varnishkes Kishke Kneidlach Knish Kreplach Provided the ingredients include flour made of any of the Five Principal Species.
Kugel Made from chalah, lokshen or rice Made from potatoes or vegetables Lokshen Lokshen Kugel Macaroni Macaroon Matza Matza Ball Matza Brei Melba Toast Bread or Roll Mince Pie Muffin English Muffin Napoleon Noodles Noodles for Pesach Noodle Pudding Oatmeal Onion Bread or Roll Onion Crackers Unless made with flour of one of the Five Principal Species, in which case is required. Provided that none of the pieces of matza is as large as a keza-yit (i.e., about one-third of a matza). If even one piece is that large, then is required. Only when it is baked like cake and is not eaten as a substitute for bread can be said for Bread or a Roll. Since they do not contain flour made from the Five Principal Species.
Pancakes Pastry Peach Pie Pearl Barley Pie Piecrust Plum Pie Porridge Pound Cake Pretzels Puffed Wheat Pumpernickel Bread Pumpkin Pie Raisin Bread Raisin Cake Rice Rice Kugel Roll Rye Bread Sandwich (bread) Spaghetti Sponge Cake Strawberry Shortcake Strudel Toast (bread) If three or four eggs in volume (approximately 6 oz.) are eaten, is required. Processed rice requires only the short Boray Nefashot brachah after eating it, not Al Hamichyah (see Igrot Moshe, Even Ha-ezer 114:5).
Tortilla Waffle Wheat Bread Wheat Cakes Wheat Germ White Bread Whole Wheat Bread Zwieback Since it is made of maize flour.
