1 Community Newsletter Fax:(02) Web: September 2014 A.R.T. CENTRE FINDS A NEW HOME The Australian Road Transport Heritage Centre has found a new home in Gundagai. The museum was to be established in Tarcutta, but unfortunately for the village a new site has been chosen at Gundagai. After many frustrating years for the committee trying to get the project off the ground at Tarcutta, the decision was made to explore Gundagai as an option. The Gundagai Shire council was very excited by the concept and have been very proactive with the committee - a lot has been achieved in a very small period of time in Gundagai. The new proposed site is 2 Middle Street Gundagai, with construction to commence once the purchase of the land is complete. Whilst this is disappointing for Tarcutta, there were a few factors that led to the move including development application requirements and ensuring enough volunteer staff to man the museum once open. Gundagai council requirements have been a lot more flexible and the larger population base ensures more volunteers are available to open the museum on a daily basis. 2 Tarcutta Village Market Saturday 20th September 9am-1pm Tarcutta Markets will kick off spring with our largest market ever with over 25 stalls ranging from cakes to fresh fruit and vegetables, linen, bric brac, fresh honey, and Junee Licorice Factory as well as a winery and much more. Our Coffee van will be back this month. We have the Wagga Artists Guild attending they will have art for sale from various artists as well as artists paint and showing how they create they works of art. 3 SOLDIERS MEMORIAL HALL The disabled access toilet located in what was the old cloak room is now complete. Having an inside toilet is a very welcome addition to the Hall, it can be used by able bodied persons of both sexes. Congratulations and thank you to all tradies involved it looks great Funding has been received from Wagga Wagga Cit Council to update the backyard toilets with the rest of the Hall being refurbished the old toilet block has been looking a little dated and in need of painting and tiling. The opportunity Shop which operated to raise money for Hall upkeep is very fortunate to be able to relocate to the former Gai s Place building. Hopefully the building will be painted and the Op Shop back in business, anyone who can spare a few hours to man the shop we would love to hear from you. See Rhonda at the Post Office. The Little Aussie Cinema is back in action. 2 films are shown the first Saturdays of each month. Cost is just a gold coin donation, food is available at a reasonable price and the candy bar is open for drinks, sweets and popcorn. The Markets continue to grow with more stall holders joining us. There is still plenty of room for anyone wishing to set up a stall, either a once off clearance or on a regular basis. 4 The kitchen at the Club is currently open on Friday nights with Chinese meals and Saturday nights with pub style meals, your continued patronage will see this continue. Takeaway meals are available Friday and Saturday nights. If you have a large group it would be appreciated if you could contact the Club and make a booking. Thank you to the locals who are using the club for their functions, birthday parties, christening gatherings and meetings - we appreciate your support. Upcoming Events 13th September we will be having a Pool competition each Saturday night starting at 7pm. $5.00 entry fee, winner take all. If you would like to play just turn up at the Club from 6.45pm and put your name down. 20th September 9am to 1pm We will be holding a garage sale of items that are excess to our needs. 5 TARCUTTA CWA The TARCUTTA & DISTRICT TELEPHONE BOOK is being updated this year. Updates and inclusions may also be left at Post Office. Tarcutta CWA delegates and members travelled to Griffith for the CWA State Conference held in Griffith. Mrs Margaret Conway gained a 1st placing with her Passion fruit Slice. Well done Margaret. Junior Land Cookery winners for 2014 were Claire Conway and Ella Nugent. The judge was impressed with their cooking skill. They will be cooking their speedway cakes again for in March for Group Land Cookery. International Poster winners were Year 6 Oliver Hazel- Plum and Year 4 Colby Hann. These will be judged at group level. The July meeting saw the Branch celebrating its 82nd birthday at the Horse and Jockey Hotel. The theme was Xmas in July. Members are busily practicing for Group cultural day in August under the guidance of Cultural Officer Joan Morgan. Items include a musical skits, choral items, story writing, poetry and photography. Handicraft Officer Carolyn Richards has been gathering items preparing for the Branch s display at the 150th Wagga Wagga Show. September will see members working tirelessly at the Henty Field Days. A trip to Canberra to Floriade on the Group Agriculture and Environment tour is also to be enjoyed. The Branch is selling tickets in Buy a Day. For a $2 investment you could win $200.
