1 Rancho Bernardo Newcomers Social Club Newsletter September 2016 For anyone who has lost their copy of the newsletter, you may always go to the Website and obtain the same information ( September Special Events Thursday, September 29, 2016 San Diego Botanic Garden September 29 We will be visiting the beautiful San Diego Botanic Garden on Thursday September 29, This visit will consist of a personally guided tour of the gardens. The tour will last one hour. After the tour you can stay until closing. We will meet at the RB Library parking lot at 8:45 am and carpool from there. The admission for Seniors is $9 per person. There is a charge for the guide that will be paid for by the club. Parking is free for cars with 4 or more persons. Otherwise the parking is $2. The San Diego Botanic Garden is located at 230 Quail Gardens Dr., Encinitas, CA. The final attendee count is due to the San Diego Botanic Garden by September 22, 2016, so do not delay if you are interested. Our special menu will consist of: CHOICE OF STARTERS: $10.00 Soup of the Day Zucchini Wraps (Ricotta Cheese, Prosciutto Ham, Parmesan Cheese) Grilled Lamb Chops with Herbs CHOICE OF MAIN COURSES: Crispy Chicken Salad or Pan Fried Shrimp Salad $14.00 French Burger (Beef Steak, Tomato, Salad, Onion, Emmental Cheese, Old-Style Mustard Sauce) $14.00 Crispy Chicken or Pan Fried Shrimp Risotto $17.00 Lasagna Bolognese (Beef Meat) $17.00

The topic will be the 2016 Presidential Election or an issue brought to the surface by the media coverage of the campaign, and should lead to a lively discussion. An Italian style buffet dinner with appetizers, desserts and Italian wines and soft drinks will be served. It will be held at the 2300 East Valley Parkway Clubhouse from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. 4 Singles Wine Grp #2 Theme: Host's Choice Chuck Schmitt When: Friday, September 5:30 pm Host: Bobbie Zerda RSVP: By September Where: 763 Fino Glen, Escondido, Cost: Bring wine and appetizer to share Sunday Supper Club meets several times a year at members' homes. Each dinner party group is limited to eight, with some flexibility such as having some parties of 6, depending upon the number of people who sign up for the designated date (Sunday evening of odd months). The host/hostess sets the theme and time and provides the entrée and accompanying wine. The "guests" provide the appetizer with wine or cocktail, salad or cheese course with a wine pairing, and dessert with wine or after dinner drink--as desired. The supper party groups differ from the wine groups in that they are smaller and include a "sit down" dinner. It is expected that each couple (or two singles) take a turn at hosting the event. We need permanent bridge players and bridge subs. Contact Madeline Zalaha for details at Mixed Golf Holey Niners Golf Group will meet at the Oaks North Golf Course on Sundays. June Greer ( ) is the chairperson for this activity. The group will meet on September 18 at 2:00 PM. The starters are Roz and Jerry Gillette. Call them at by September 12 to join the group. The Old Bold Pilots will meet at 7:30 AM on the second Monday of each month at Denny s for a no-host breakfast with camaraderie. We welcome all former or current military and airline pilots only. These events are attended by others outside of the RBNSC members and therefore sell out early. Call as soon as you think you want to go. September 7: First Wednesday at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. A Penny a Kiss, is a tribute to the music of the 1940s and 1950s. Concerts are free on the First Wednesday of each month, September to June. They begin at 4:00 PM and at 7:00 PM. The concerts fill up early and it is recommended that you arrive 1 hour early to get a seat. September 30 to October 6: Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiesta Guided Tour - 3 days Albuquerque Mass Ascension, Evening Glow, city tour, time in Old Town, then 2 days Santa Fe.
