3 Happy belated 4th to all of our American friends. I hope this message finds you all in good health and spirits. Not much new for us up North. Summer FINALLY arrived, along with better temperatures and some thunder storms. Nice to have the long hours of sunlight. It's light at 5:00 a.m. and stays until 10:00 at night. How quickly the days are passing by. Won't be long until we're planning the trip south again. Where does the time go? Hello to the new park manager, I'm looking forward to meeting you. Thanks to all who keep the activities going over the summer months. Stay cool!! Steve Knobbe Jan Wilhite says there is not much to report at this point but things change quickly. Stayed tuned and stay out of the heat! Please meet the current park manager: As I am sure you are aware Flo Smith has resigned her position. My name is Vicki Nowak-Neumann, and I came here to Fountain East from Brentwood Southern Mobile home community where I was the Assistant Manager since last October. I have worked in other capacities in Brentwood since shortly after moving here in I started as a gate guard. Then worked in the office once the automatic gates were installed. I did rehab work in the park and maintenance work here in Fountain East so I am actually not a total stranger to this lovely community. The first 30 days were pretty rough. But the pool renovations started Monday, July 14, after a long delay for permits. I will be contacting the tree service to schedule finishing the park trees. I will let everyone know when that will begin. During the summer we will also be doing a few other projects in the community. I am happy to be here and am almost finished moving into the community. I look forward to meeting all of you and doing my best to keep our community calm, clean and beautiful. You can call me Vicki 2

Actually, there are requirements that when signing in state: Household Self Certification 1. I meet the current income eligibility guidelines below to receive USDA commodities. 2. I live in the geographic area served by this distribution site. 3. I will not sell, trade, barter, or exchange these commodities for service. 4. Customers must indicate number of people in household to determine the amount of food distributed to the household. The current (July, 2014 to July, 2015) income eligibility guidelines are: Household Monthy Annual 1 person $1,800/month or $21,590 annual income 2 persons $2,426/month or $29,101 annual income 7

9 The celebration of the 4th of July with the 50's dinner was a big success. Chicken, potato salad, corn on the cob, watermelon and a roll were on the dinner plate followed by root beer floats for dessert. 8

10 Betty Copas led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Lanny Barringer did a couple readings and then said the prayer. Gary Gabriel crafted and donated 2 bracelets and a pill case f or door prizes. Joanne Rebilas was the lucky winner. The other door prize was a birdhouse made like an old diner. Really cute! Betty Baccus won that. Alice Spearman held a hula hoop contest. Jan Wilhite, Lanny Barringer, Jean Ringwald and Joanne s granddaughter, Lindsey, participated. The winner was Jan... To help set the mood, Alice Spearman, Jan Wilhite, and Betty Baccus were dressed for the 50's in poodle skirts. Lanny Barringer came as Elvis... From Joanne: It was a good party. Thanks to all who stayed and helped to clean up...it was greatly appreciated! 9

11 Fountain East Hinkley Reunion The Hinckley reunion came quickly, meaning summer is passing and coming home is approaching. The reunion was enjoyed by 33 for a buffet lunch and later we were shuttled to a pool-side pavilion to catch up on the latest happenings since leaving Fountain East this past spring. It was especially good to see former residents who sill feel like part of the park and want to come back to visit. Those from the past were Frank & Laura Sherman, Maynard Lindee, Mary Gustafson and friend Harvey, Lawrence and Ann Anderson, Vern Walentine with daughter and Tom Etter. Current residents in attendance were: Arden and Doris Caldwell, Kermit and Lenore Thoreson, Lois Grover, Walt Devonshire, Brenda and Jack Carlson, Don and Phillis Thoreson, Elwood and Diane Thoreson, Ralph Sanger, Dick and Clara Hauck, Cliff and Joan Wadle, Matt and Judy Jacobs, Glen and Barb Bemis, Roger and Ruth Gerdes. Plans always change for some of those who plan to attend. Charlie and Judy Paxton had to cancel because of a conflicting doctor s appointment; Sylvia and Marloe Anderson missed the event because Marloe had two heart stents placed. We missed them! Ruth Gerdes would have knee replacement surgery just two days after the reunion. The consensus was that there will be a Hinkley Reunion 15. Mark your calendar don t laugh time flies! If you have palm tree waste in your yard, would you please pile it for pickup. You will be notified when tree-trimming will resume and clean-up will begin. 10

The cut-off for ticket sales will be August 27 th. No tickets will be sold after that date. Get your tickets early. Alice and Joanne have a hard time turning people away. We are giving you plenty of time to get your tickets. This is a very popular dinner. If we run out of something, we would feel awful. This is the 10 th time we have put this dinner on. So buy your tickets early and help to make everything go smoothly. Bob Burrows is collecting eye glasses for the Lions Club. The Lions Club is also accepting donations of hearing aids and cell phones. There is a collection box in the in the hall. A big THANK YOU to those contributing. We have turned several boxes over to the Lions, and with your donations, have helped many, many people 12

14 Patio Sales: Friday, November 21, Saturday November 22 Craft Sales with the Bake Sale and Kitchen Café: Friday, November 21 ONLY Many volunteers will be recruited to organize groups & lead specific Craft Sale activities: designing & posting sign-up sheets in clubhouse; removing them later hanging 5' x 8' wall poster on Broadway at Recker, removing it later setting up sandwich board sign at entry to Fountain East; retrieving it later organizing 1 or 2 groups to help set up tables & chairs for all activities in hall on Friday; taking them down later, rearranging them as needed counting attendees, noting FE residents or not counting # of people eating at café, donating food to Bake Sale, etc. All residents are encouraged to hold Patio Sales, alone or in groups Our crafters at Fountain East are busy with their many offerings; hopefully, they will be joined by many more crafters from outside the park. And our cooks/bakers are deciding what they will donate to the Bake Sale. I understand we have 3 new crafters who recently moved into the park. Hopefully they will want to join our other talented crafters in the sales next year. Think about it...how do you want to participate? I look forward to hearing from more of you as the time grows closer. Watch each Bubbles for more details on these exciting events. To help, contact: Peggy Jackson iljacksons@hotmail.com You know you are from Arizona when... you know a swamp cooler is not a happy hour drink! you know you can make sun tea outside faster than instant tea in your microwave! the water coming from the cold tap is hotter than that from the hot tap! you think someone driving while wearing oven mitts is clever! you know a seatbelt makes a pretty good branding iron! 13

16 This is the time of the year we look forward to easy meals and treats...the kind that don t heat up the kitchen too much. Gazpacho with Shrimp (serves 4-6) (good as a starter for a Mexican dinner or, in a larger serving, an entree) 6 cups Clamato juice 2 medium cucumbers, peeled, seeded and diced 1/4 cup minced fresh, or 2 tablespoons crumbed dried, basil leaves 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar 2 teaspoons pepper ½ pound shelled, cooked small shrimp 1 large avocado 1 3-ounce package cream cheese, cut in ½- inch cubes Combine 3 cups juice and ½ of the cucumbers in blender; whirl until smooth. Pour mixture into a large bowl and stir in remaining juice, cucumber, basil, vinegar and pepper. Cover and chill until soup is cold, at least 1 hour or up to 1 day. When ready to serve, ladle into bowls and garnish with shrimp, cubed avocado and cheese cubes. Season with salt and pepper. Angel Food Cake Dessert Mix together the juice from 4 lemons, ½ cup sugar, 1 can sweetened condensed milk (regular or light). Stir in 1 pint Cool Whip. Watermelon and Strawberry Margaritas 3 cups (packed) frozen chopped seeded watermelon 1 cup (packed) frozen quartered unsweetened strawberries 7 tablespoons tequila 7 tablespoons triple sec a cup fresh lime juice 2 tablespoons sugar pinch of salt 4 small watermelon wedges Puree first 7 ingredients in blender until smooth. Pour into chilled Margarita glasses. Garnish with watermelon wedges. Makes 4 Freezing the watermelon and strawberries before mixing the drink eliminates the need for ice. Bottled Margarita mix may be substituted for triple sec, lime juice sugar and salt. Follow instructions for proportions on bottle. Break half of an angel food cake into small pieces. Spread on bottom of 9 x 13 cake pan. Use ½ of the above mixture over the cake pieces. Layer rest of angel food cake pieces with the remaining lemon mixture. Freeze until ready to serve. Let sit out for a little while before serving. Top with fresh berries of your choice. 15
