1 February 2012 Special notes: Early Dismissal at 12:35 on Wed., Feb. 1st No School on: Monday, February 20 th. Iowa Assessments The Iowa Assessments are beginning shtly f our 2 nd through 5 th grade students. The students will be taking the Iowa Assessments through early February. The Iowa Assessments allow us to evaluate the academic achievement and growth of our students in the areas of reading, math, and science. We greatly appreciate the help of our parents in assisting our students to be prepared f the tests. Ways you can help your child are: 1. Make sure your child gets a good night s sleep. 2. Your child should have breakfast in the mning. We don t want students distracted by growling, noisy stomachs! 3. Please make every efft to have your child in attendance and here at school on time. Most of our students will be taking the test as their first task of the day, beginning at 9:00. Arriving late can throw off some students. 4. Have your child dress in layers students do better on tests if they don t have to think about how hot cold they are. It s always less distracting to take off an extra layer than to be too cold. Character Day is Feb. 24th Students should wear their Character T-shirt! Johnston PTO Purple Party The annual Purple Party will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012, from 3:30 to 7:30 pm. F those new to Johnston, Purple Party is like a school carnival, but much me. Every year, it is held in the Johnston High School. There are games, raffles, silent auctions, bingo, food, and prizes. In der f Purple Party to be successful it takes many volunteers. If you can help by wking in the concession stand, helping with a game, helping with set up, baking buying a cake, etc., please call any of our PTO officers. Our Purple Party representatives need donations f the Purple Party baskets. They need games, popcn and movies. If you can donate any of these items, bring them to the Timber Ridge Office. Thank you in advance to all Purple Party volunteers. Kids First Bank Pizza Contest Our Kids First Bank is off to a great start. Every Tuesday mning, our Bank Board Members and tellers are at school early to open the bank at. Each time a student makes a deposit in the bank, their classroom receives a point in the pizza contest. At the end of the school year, the classroom with the most points will win a pizza party. So far, the top three classrooms are: 1 st place = Mr. Fjelland 2 nd place = Ms. McCoy 3 rd place = Mrs. S Fisher
