2 Welcome to... As a toourist Møgeltønder is an attractive place to visit. The area in and around Møgeltønder offers the finding spot of the Golden Horns by Gallehus, the ruin of Trøjborg and last but not least Schackenborg Castle. Close by are also the town of Tønder, probaly Denmarks most beautiful christmas town while at the same time being an active commercial town, and many other exciting places to visit. Møgeltønder lies in a unique area of nature where among other geese and starlings gather to rest. During spring and fall tens of thousands of geese and starling come here to feed before the next part of the journey begins. The main natural attraction of the area is Black Sun - a concept where up to one million starlings gather at sunset and dance in the sky forming fascinating and all-time transformating formations. You have to experience this at least once in your lifetime. Other nature- experiences include seal safari, longride on horseback, oyster picking and much much more. They all have in common that one is wise to join up with a skilled guide in the area, preferrably from They know the area, the history, all the tales and natures own rythm in THEIR area - they know where to go in order to get a great experience. Møgeltønder is known for having Northern Europes most beautifull town-street with idyll, topped cobblestones, old lanterns and listed houses and a very beautifull and historic interesting church. Add a handfull of skilled craftsmen, shopkeepers, farm-boutiques and small hospitalities, and you have the start of a fairytail. Last but not least Schackenborg Castle is the main attraction of the area - His Royal Highness Price Joachims residence from 1998 to a modern agricultural property with over 1000 ha of forest, livestock and arable land. It is possible to have a guided tour in the town as well as the church and the beautifull garden of the castle, if booked in advance. Other excursion are Ribe, the oldest town in Denmark with an impressing cathedral and cosy cobblestoned street, Esbjerg and Kolding with their good shopping opportunities, Rømø with its wide sandy beaches, the German island of Sylt known for its exclusivity, easily reached by ferry from Rømø - and why not include everything with a shopping spree in Germany, only a few km. away? Schackenborg Slotskro offers 25 cosy and charming hotel rooms distributed on 20 double rooms and 5 single rooms, all individually decorated and named after Danish castles and mansions. The rooms are situated in the main building itself as well as 3 surrounding listed buildings with bar windows and their own garden. All rooms have their own bathroom (many of them with bathtub), tv, telephone and internet.
