6 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2013 Burgundy 2013 Domaines F- L Date & place of tasting in italics Growers / Wineries are in alphabetical order Maison Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges Mercurey Clos Rochette Domaine Faiveley Monopole Tasted at the Winery November 2014 Crisp on the nose the start of the palate is apple fresh with sweeter flavours greengage and pineapple enriching the mid palate. The finish is lighter with more of a citrus character. Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne Lively on the nose with a strong citrus feel and although the palate starts crisp with fresh fruit there is some sweeter fruit in the middle. Lime and mineral refresh the back palate the finish flinty and lean. Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru The nose has depth the palate richness ripe melon on the start backed by greengage. Lime and lemon give a slightly lighter feel in the middle but the rich fruit is there at the back the finish sweet and ripe with good depth. Mercurey Rouge Les Mauvarennes Tasted in the Carlton Club July 2016 Red fruits are to the fore the start of the palate appears to be the lighter style of Pinot Noir but the there is depth of fruit in the middle more black fruits showing. The sweetness on the back palate suits meats such as lamb and it would not be over dominated by the richness of pork. Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cazetiers Fragrant fresh the nose has a mix of red fruits and the start of the palate is quite light. Red fruits dominate the mid palate fresh redcurrant but it is richer at the back with fleshy mulberry. Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 6

7 BURGUNDY 2013 October 11, 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les St Georges The nose is bright with red fruited freshness and the start of the palate is quite light and lean. Richer in the middle red cherry and mulberry a good depth of flavour with the sweet fruit giving richness and depth on the finish. Corton Grand Cru Clos des Cortons Faiveley Deep and brooding on the nose the mainly black fruits are rich and ripe. Layers of fruit give complexity the mid palate has power and depth the finish packed with sweet ripe fruit yet there is enough underlying freshness to balance. Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru Fresh on the nose with an attractive mix of red fruits but the palate has more depth richness a mass of black fruits sweet and ripe. The tannins are ripe the mid palate fleshy and supple and although there is an underlying bramble freshness the finish has depth richness black fruited power. Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru Power richness the nose has depth and the palate sweet black fruited power. Ripe tannins add to the suppleness the fleshy richness in the middle and although there are some fresh red fruits under the richness the back palate and finish have depth richness brooding power. Domaine de La Ferté Givry Givry 1er Cru Servoisine Tasted the Charles Taylor tasting Travellers Club London January 2015 Light fresh the nose has a red fruit mix the start of the palate full of raspberries and wild strawberries. It fills out on the mid palate sweeter fruit helping the richness but both back palate and finish are light with red fruit freshness. 8 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre Light fragrant the nose is fresh floral white flowers and the start of the palate has lime and lemon freshness. The mid palate has a nice mix of flavours grapefruit giving a slightly richer feel with the citrus at the back giving crispness on the finish. Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Light fresh the nose has a strong citrus character and the start of the plate is very fresh with lime and lemon. There is a richer feel on the mid palate the richness of greengage all nicely balanced by freshness at the back the finish light fragrant long. Domaine Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault Meursault Le Meix Sous le Château The nose is light fresh slightly herbal and the palate has a citrus apple mix. Sweeter in the middle ripe melon and honey the richness is balanced by the herbal freshness at the back. Meursault Le Tesson Lime and lemon the nose is fresh and the start of the palate light. It fills out in the middle sweet ripe fruit and although there is fair depth at the back the citrus mix on the finish refreshes. Grands Vins de Fleurie Fleurie Fleurie Tasted at Lincoln s Inn April 2015 Don t shy away from the Gamay grape all those memories of raw red wines with bacon and egg breakfasts are a thing of the past. The nose is sweet with a mix of mainly black fruits the dominant black cherry giving depth and richness on the palate. Under the black fruits ripe wild Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 8

9 BURGUNDY 2013 October 11, 2012 strawberry adds to the complexity and although there is a fresher feel on the back palate the finish has sweetness and depth - truly classic Gamay. Try it with pork and poultry a great pairing. Domaine Follin-Arbelet Aloxe-corton Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru The nose is light the start of the palate fresh with a strong citrus character. Richer in the middle the melon and greengage mix is sweet but towards the back citrus freshness lightens and gives a leaner feel to the finish. Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre Light and fresh on the nose the palate has a mix of raspberry and redcurrant. There is more depth in the middle slightly richer fruit but the freshness is there at the back the finish red fruited and fresh. Corton-Bresssandes Grand Cru Fresh fruits on the nose some bramble and raspberry and the start of the palate is light. Richer in the middle more of a bramble character but the underlying feel is lightness fragrance just a slight lack of concentration. Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru Although the nose has lots of fresh red fruits the palate is richer good depth of flavour with black fruits more in evidence. The back palate is a bit closed the finish tight but there is the feel of more fruit underneath. 10 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2013 Rich on the nose the fruit feels ripe the start of the palate filed with honeydew melon. There is a balancing freshness a lighter feel in the middle but the rich fruit comes through and although the back palate is fruity and rich the finish is light fresh with crisp apple. Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets Sweet fruit enriches the nose the palate broad with ripe flavours. Under the rich fruit the ripe melon apple and lime refresh the back palate lighter but it fills out the finish with some sweet fruit Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Power depth the nose has the richness of ripe fruit and the palate is fleshy with a greengage melon mix. Lighter in the middle apple freshness a complex mix of flavours. The back palate is packed with rich fruit though the finish is lighter fresh and long. Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Solon Red fruits some fresher black fruits the nose is light with lots of fragrances. The start of the palate is light quite fresh but the mid palate has depth richness ripe fruit with fleshy black fruits giving richness on the back palate and finish. Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Ripe fruit gives richness on the nose and a sweet start to the palate. Black fruit tends to dominate cassis and black cherry and although slightly lighter at the back the finish has lots of power a rich mix of flavours. Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes Both nose and palate are full of rich ripe fruits a strong black fruit influence the mid palate fleshy and sweet. The tannins are fine supporting but not holding back the sweetness and although the back palate has some lighter fresher flavours the finish has brooding richness and power. 11 BURGUNDY 2013 October 11, 2012 Château de Fuissé Fuissé Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes Tasted in Lincoln s Inn July 2016 Mineral and flint the nose is fresh the start of the palate citrusy and crisp. The mid palate has more depth greengage richness the back palate has rich fruit the finish though leaner and mineral driven. Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Cailleret Tasted at the Berry Bros tasting One Great George Street London January 2015 The nose has depth the richness of ripe fruit the palate has melon fleshiness. The mid sweetness is balanced by apple and lime quite racy at the back but the finish is rich with a good weight of flavour. Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes Tasted in the Carlton Club February 2016 Tasted in Mercers Hall May 2016 Rich fruit sweetness on the nose the palate has a fleshy richness ripe melon and greengage. Slightly lighter in the middle with more of a citrus character then rich sweet fruit fleshes out the back palate. Domaine Garnier & Fils Chablis Chablis Tasted at Lincoln s Inn October 2014 Tasted at Lincoln s Inn December 2015 Flint and citrus the nose is bright the start of the palate has mix of fresh fruits. 12 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2013 Domaine Gautheron Chablis Chablis 1er Cru Vaucoupin Tasted in the Carlton Club September 2015 Racy fresh the nose has lime and lemon the palate is crisp with slate and mineral. There is mid heart hints of tropical fruits slightly peachy all so typical of the wines from the Vaucoupin premier cru site Citrus freshness at the back the mineral and flintiness goes well with the fish dishes yet there is enough mid flavour to compliment chicken. Domaine Geantet-Pansiot Gevrey-Chambertin Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes The nose is firm the start of the palate tight with a mix of black fruits. Bramble and bilberry refresh the mid palate slightly sweeter at the back but firm tannins tend to close down the finish. Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Deep brooding black fruits the nose has richness the palate a powerful mix of flavours. The sweetness on the mid palate is balanced by fresher fruits at the back but it finishes with power lots of rich fruit. Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers Red fruits are very much in evidence the nose fresh and quite light. The fresh fruit on the start of the palate is underpinned by sweeter flavours still very red fruit in character wild strawberry and mulberry. 13 BURGUNDY 2013 October 11, 2012 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Beaux Bruns The fruit on the nose feels ripe the start of the palate sweet with a mix of mulberry and bramble. Sweet in the middle but the freshness at the back gives a lighter feel to the finish. Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard Savigny-lès-Beaune Bourgogne Aligoté Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting October 2014 Very crisp and citrusy on the nose the palate has a crunchy freshness with lots of green apple. There is some sweetness at the back but the finish is racy and citrusy. Bourgogne Chardonnay Combe d Orange Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting October 2014 Rich on the nose the palate has depth of flavour with sweet ripe melon and greengage in the middle. Under the sweet fruit apple refreshes but the finish is rich a nice depth of flavour. Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting October 2014 Tasted the Charles Taylor tasting Travellers Club London January 2015 There is a mix of fresh fruits on the nose quite light with a fragrant charm. Sweet ripe fruit gives fleshy richness on the palate a good depth of flavour the ripeness of the fruit enriching the back palate and finish. Pernand-Vergelesses Les Belles Filles Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting October 2014 Tasted the Charles Taylor tasting Travellers Club London January 2015 Depth of fruit on the nose ripe melon and greengage gives richness on the start of the palate. The mid palate is fresher very citrusy the freshness balancing the fruit sweetness. The finish is long with a good mix of flavours. Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting October 2014 The nose has depth of flavour the start of the palate the fleshiness of ripe fruit. 14 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2013 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting October 2014 The nose is light red fruited and fresh and the palate has a very red fruited character. Mulberry towards the back gives a slightly richer feel but it finishes fresh and quite light. Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Peuillets Tasted the Charles Taylor tasting Travellers Club London January 2015 Light fresh fruited the nose has a mix of red fruits a mix of fragrances. The mid palate is quite sweet but still light and the back palate is firm the finish a bit closed. Beaune 1er Cru Clos du Roi Tasted the Charles Taylor tasting Travellers Club London January 2015 Bramble some black cherry the nose has fair depth and there is richness on the start of the palate. Fresher in the middle some red fruits under the black sweetness at the back and the finish has good depth. Maison Vincent Girardin Meursault Saint-Romain Vieilles Vignes Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting Travellers Club London January 2015 The nose has depth sweet fruit and the start of the palate is full of greengage and melon. Lighter and fresher at the back there is more of an apple character on the finish. Domaine Camille Giroud Beaune Santenay 1er Cru Clos Rousseau Tasted at the Berry Bros tasting One Great George Street London January 2015 Light and fragrant on the nose the start of the palate is red fruited quite fresh. Mulberry gives more depth to the mid palate rich and ripe at the back the finish quite sweet. Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots Tasted at the Berry Bros tasting One Great George Street London January 2015 Rich on the nose black fruits dominate the palate has sweetness richness and depth in the middle. 15 BURGUNDY 2013 October 11, 2012 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Tasted at the Berry Bros tasting One Great George Street London January 2015 Rich ripe the nose has depth lots of sweet black fruits and the palate has black cherry power. The sweet fruit is balanced by bramble freshness but the back palate and finish have a brooding depth. Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St Georges Depth on the nose the palate is rich ripe fruited blackberry in character. The mid sweetness is balanced and underpinned by mulberry slightly lighter and fresher with sweeter fruit enriching the back palate. Caves des Grands Crus Blancs Pouilly-Vinzelles Mâcon Vinzelles Tasted at the Carlton Club July 2014 Lime and lemon the nose is fresh and the start of the palate is citrusy and crisp. There are sweet fruits in the middle greengage some honeydew melon the richness balanced by fresh fruit at the back. There is a nice balance between the rich fruits and the underlying citrus.. Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Lavières Fresh and red fruited on the nose the start of the palate is quite light. The mid palate lacks a bit of depth the back palate fresh with a strong red fruit influence and the finish although fragrant is light. 16 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2013 The mix of mulberry and redcurrant is fresh the nose has an attractive mix of fragrances. There is a richer feel in the middle sweetness still though very red fruit in character with fresher fruit at the back giving a lighter feel on the finish. Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru The nose has a fragrant charm but quite light the start of the palate has redcurrant freshness. The sweetness on the mid palate tends to be overtaken but firm tannins and although there is the feel of more fruit to show the finish is a bit short. Domaine Anne-François Gros Pommard Vosne-Romanée Aux Réas Tasted at the Berry Bros tasting One Great George Street London January 2015 The nose is tight the start of the palate firm with a mix of flavours. There is a sweeter feel on the mid palate ripe fruit the back palate meaty and rich the finish has depth of flavour. Vosne-Romanée Aux Maizères Tasted at the Berry Bros tasting One Great George Street London January 2015 Firm on the nose the palate is quite tight with mainly black fruits. Lean in the middle purity of flavour but at the back there is depth rich black fruits with sweetness on the finish. Domaine Franck Grux Corpeau Meursault Meix Chavaux Tasted in Lilley January 2015 Tasted at the Leathersellers November 2015 Tasted at the Leathersellers May The nose is rich ripe greengage and the palate has a honeyed sweetness. Sumptuous in the middle with depth of flavour the back palate fresher apple and lime but the sweetness the honey underpins enriching the finish. Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 16

17 BURGUNDY 2013 October 11, 2012 Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny Chambolle-Musigny Black fruits give depth on the nose but the start of the palate is fresher lighter more red fruit in character. There is depth in the middle but it finishes light quite fresh and red fruited. Vougeot 1er Cru Les Petits Vougeots Sweet ripe fruit gives richness on the nose and depth power on the palate. Black cherry intermingles with mulberry lots of complexity the sweetness of the fruit enriching the back palate the finish slightly lighter with length of flavour. Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots The fruit feels ripe the nose has lots of sweet flavours and the start of the palate ids rich with bramble and mulberry intermingling. Under the sweet fruit there is a balancing freshness with the sweeter fruit coming through giving depth and richness on the finish. Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Fragrant red fruits the nose is fresh the start of the palate light. Sweeter in the middle with a mix of fruits rich black fruit is backed by redcurrant freshness. The finish has depth the fruit feeling ripe and sweet. Louis Jadot Beaune Mâcon Villages Grange Magnien Tasted at the Carlton Club April 2014 The nose has a mix of fragrances fresh fruited but light. The start of the palate is crisp citrusy some cut apple and although there is sweeter fruit in the middle it lacks depth of flavour on the back palate and finishes very light and slightly short. 17 Master of Wine: Derek Smedley Master of Wine: Derek Smedley

18 October 11, 2012 BURGUNDY 2013 Domaine Perre Janny Péronne Pouilly-Fuissé Margolliets Tasted at the Vineyards Direct tasting Jesus Cambridge November 2015 Bright on the nose the palate is flinty and fresh the mid palate has a strong citrus character. There is some sweet fruit at the back but the fresh fruit the flint and mineral mix gives a racy brightness to the finish. Chorey-lès-Beaune Marvine Tasted at the Vineyards Direct tasting Jesus Cambridge November 2015 Bright on the nose the palate starts with fresh red fruits the mid palate sweeter and richer still though very red fruit dominated. Bright and light at the back the finish has a mix of mulberry and redcurrant. Domaine Patrick Javillier Meursault Bourgogne Blanc Cuvée Oligocène Light fresh fruity on the nose fuller richer more depth of fruit comes through on the palate. The apple citrus mix towards the back gives freshness but this gives way to ripe melon richness on the finish. Bourgogne Blanc Cuvée des Forgets Tasted at the C & B tasting The Tower of London January 2015 The nose is light fresh fruity the palate richer with greengage depth. Ripe in the middle rich fruit a hint of honey although at the back citrus dominates the finish is full of ripe pineapple. Meursault Cuvée Tête de Murger Honeyed fruit the nose has depth and richness the palate full of ripe melon and greengage. There is enough underlying freshness to balance some crisp apple but it fills out at the back a lovely depth of fruit. Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 18

19 BURGUNDY 2013 October 11, 2012 Tasted at the C & B tasting The Tower of London January 2015 Floral fragrant on the nose the start of the palate is light citrusy and fresh. The fruit on the mid palate feels ripe the mid sweetness giving way to apple freshness at the back the finish quite light and fragrant. Domaine Jeanniard Corgoloin Hautes Côtes de Nuits Blanc Tasted in the Mansion House July 2016 Rich and ripe on the nose the start of the palate has fleshy ripe melon. The mid sweetness is balanced by fresh fruit apple a touch of citrus the finish has sweetness and depth. Domaine Antoine Jobard Meursault Meursault En La Barre Tasted at the Berry Bros tasting One Great George Street London January 2015 Honeyed rich the nose has a good depth of fruit and the start of the palate is sweet ripe and fleshy. A touch of apple in the middle helps to balance the rich fruit the sweetness giving fleshy richness on the finish. Domaine Vincent et François Jouard Chassagne-Montrachet Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting October 2014 Tasted the Charles Taylor tasting Travellers Club London January 2015 Melon and greengage enrich the nose the start of the palate has depth of flavour. The richness the sweetness is balanced by freshness lots of citrus at the back yet it finishes with sweet fruited power. The balance is good with lemon freshness the sweeter fruit filling out the back palate and finish. Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées Clos de la Truffière Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting October 2014 Rich and ripe fruited on the nose the palate has fleshy depth a mix of ripe pear and melon. Under the rich fruit there is a balancing acidity some lime and cut apple but the finish has all the sweet fruited richness of the nose. Domaine Gilles Jourdan Corgoloin Côte de Nuits-Villages La Robignotte Tasted at the C & B tasting The Tower of London January 2015 Light on the nose fragrant but lacking some richness and the palate lacks depth red fruited raspberry freshness. Although slightly richer at the back the finish lacks substance slight bitter freshness. Domaine Michel Juillot Mercurey Mercurey Rouge Les Vignes de Maillonge Tasted in the Carlton Club July 2016 Fresh red fruits the nose is light and bright the palate starts with a mix of redcurrants and raspberries. There is mid depth the fruit ripe the quite fleshy but at the back the tannins are obvious although it does fill out on the finish with red cherry richness. Domaine Pierre Labet Vougeot Beaune Blanc Clos des Dessus des Marconnets Tasted at the C & B tasting The Tower of London January 2015 The nose has depth rich fruit and although the palate has lots of greengage the mid firmness tends to hold back full fruit expression. There is depth breadth of fruit in the middle but towards the back it is lighter fresher the finish a bit tight. Les Heritiers de Comtes Lafon Meursault Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine Clos du Four Citrus and apple the nose is fresh the start of the palate racy. There is mid richness sweet fruit ripe greengage with citrus in evidence at the back refreshing the finish. Viré-Clessé The fruit feels sweet depth on the nose and fleshiness on the palate. Apple and citrus give freshness at the back the finish long and flinty. Domaine Lamarche Vosne-Romanée Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes Although light the nose has a mix of fresh fruits and the palate has a sweeter red fruited influence. More mulberry in the middle more depth but it feels lighter at the back with redcurrant freshness. Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Sweet on the nose the palate has a mix of rich fruits. The start is red fruited but the mid palate has the richness of black fruit sweet and ripe. Firm tannins support the sweet fruit on the back palate the finish is a bit tight at the moment. Ripe black fruits are backed by sweet red ripe tannins add to the suppleness the back palate has power richness the finish depth. La Grande Rue Grand Cru Tasted at the Berry Bros tasting One Great George Street London January 2015 There is a lot happening on the nose bramble fresh the palate has depth richness lush and fleshy. Under the ripe fruit there is freshness all adding to the complexity. The fruit mix the red fruits the black fruits linger on the long finish. Domaine des Lambrays Morey-Saint-Denis Morey-Saint-Denis Mulberry and bramble the nose is quite light fresh and fragrant and the start of the palate is fresh. Richer in the middle some sweet ripe fruit but fresher fruits are there at the back the finish slightly lacking in depth and richness. Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru There is a lot of rich fruit on the nose the palate has depth with powerful flavours. Fleshy sweet and supple in the middle the tannins are fine the powerful mix of black fruits enriches the back palate. It is slightly lighter and fresher on the long finish the mix of fruits lingering. Greengage gives more depth and richness in the middle with citrus and mineral refreshing back palate and finish. Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de La Chatenière Fragrant and fresh fruited on the nose the palate has a crunchy apple freshness. Sweet and ripe fruits in the middle give a richer feel the sweet fruit there at the back giving depth of flavour on the finish. Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravieres Tasted at the Berry Bros tasting One Great George Street London January 2015 The nose is fresh with a mix of citrus fruits the palate richer a nice depth of flavour melon and ripe greengage. The sweet fruit is underpinned by freshness but towards the back richer flavours show the finish has a good depth of flavour. Domaine Benjamin Leroux Beaune Vougeot Clos du Village The nose has lots of fragrances but is very light and the start of the palate lacks depth and fruit richness. The touch of mid sweetness is overtaken by red fruited freshness the finish lacks depth. Sweet fruit gives richness in the middle lots of black fruits and towards the back rounded tannins add to the suppleness. The finish is long with depth and sweetness. Domaine Long-Depaquit Chablis Chablis Grand Cru Blanchots The nose has a strong flint and mineral character the start of the palate racy and fresh. It fills out in the middle honeydew melon the richer fruit underpinned by apple and lime the finish fresh and long. Chablis Grand Cru La Moutonne Monopole Serious deep rich and ripe there is lots of grapefruit and greengage on both nose and palate. The richness on the mid palate is underpinned by flinty mineral layers of flavour lots of complexity and although the back palate is lean and flinty the finish has depth of flavour. Domaine Roger Luquet Fuissé Bourgogne Chardonnay Tasted at the Carlton Club April 2014 The nose is earthy herbal and the palate slightly musty.
