7 Memories of Jackson Dorothy Tanner was born in Jackson in in the same log cabin where her mother was born in 1914! Her grandparents on both sides homesteaded here, so although her parents moved to Lander when she was very young, she remembers spending many summers exploring Jackson with her cousins as a child. Dorothy grew up in Lander and then moved to Casper, where she attended Casper College to become a beautician. She got married and raised her children there before returning to Jackson in 1988 and then worked for 15 years as a travel agent. Dorothy s favorite memories of Jackson as a child are of riding her bicycle way out of town past the Virginian Hotel, and to Spring Gulch Road. She also remembers spending time at the Purple Cow Drive-In restaurant when she was a teenager - at a time when Jackson was much smaller and everyone knew each other. MyMedicare.gov Having a MyMedicare.gov account allows you to check claims filed on your Medicare number soon after they are filed. Call the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) for assistance if you see something suspicious when you check your claims. 1 (800)

9 April Health Focus Now is the time that snow turns to rain and the days get longer. This also means Spring is blooming. Flowers, grasses and trees will start to sprout and grow and for many people this means the beginning of allergy season. You may have a cough, sneezing and itchy, scratchy throat. But how can you tell if it is allergies or the common cold? WHAT ARE COLDS? Colds are viruses that get into your body. Once you have the virus your body s immune system begins to fight the virus. Some of these defenses are coughing, runny noses and sneezing. Most colds are destroyed by your body after a week or so. WHAT IS AN ALLERGY? An allergy is your body s reaction to a foreign substance. Your body creates an antibody to fight the substance even though it may not be dangerous. Then whenever your body comes into contact with the substance your body reacts to fight it. For example a reaction to pollen can be sneezing, itchy, watery eyes and runny nose. To determine the difference between a cold and an allergy you will need to keep track of your symptoms. Use the following as a guide: How long do your symptoms last? A cold usually lasts 3 to 14 days. Allergies last days to months as long as you are around the allergen. When do the symptoms happen? A cold happens mostly in winter but is possible at any time. Allergies will happen any time of year when you are in contact with the allergen, but pollen allergies are seasonal. Symptoms Coughs happen usually with a cold and sometimes with allergies Aches happen sometimes with a cold but never with allergies Fatigue happens sometime with both a cold and allergies Fever happens rarely with a cold and never with allergies Itchy watery eyes happen with a cold rarely and often with allergies Sore throat happens with a cold often and allergies sometimes Stuffy nose is symptom of both colds and allergies It is important to remember that allergies are not contagious and if others in your household are sick it may be a cold. If your symptoms last longer than 14 days, it is likely allergies. For cold symptoms persisting over 14 days see your Doctor. For allergy symptoms you should talk to your Pharmacist or Doctor for symptom relief. The health articles in this newsletter are intended for information only. They should not be considered as medical advice about your personal health. This should be obtained directly from your doctor.
