3 Menu Explanation Distribution and Explanation of the Menu for the Adolescent Treatment Center We will have a menu in three different locations. The first will be posted right outside the cafeteria near the entrance. This menu will have options of the week broken down by breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. It will be updated every Sunday afternoon for the upcoming week. The second menu will be located inside the cafeteria near the serving tables and will only have a menu for that day. Also, at the bottom of the menu there will also be a list of the optional dishes, which will remain constant from day to day. The third menu will be posted online for those wanting more detailed information. It will include the cafeteria hours, as well as the names, pictures, ingredients, and calories of each meal. The figures for the calories represent the totals in the main entrees and sides, but not in the optional dishes. The website address is included under each printed menu. It is important to note the format of the menu provided. Because our facility is an adolescent treatment center, we thought it was appropriate to give the residents a variety of choices. For every meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) there are two options from which to choose. There is a cold plate that remains standard every day and a hot entree. The cold plate for breakfast consists of various cereals: Honey Nut Cheerios, Life, Frosted Mini Wheats, Honey Bunches of Oats, and Fruit Loops. The residents may also choose a side of sausage, bacon, egg, and/or bacon for every breakfast. For lunch, the cold plate is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. For dinner, there is a wrap bar with various meats, cheeses, vegetables, and dressings. The drinks for all meals are chocolate milk, 1% milk, and orange juice. There are also snacks that are offered everyday: apple s with peanut butter, applesauce, string cheese, beef jerky, granola bars, yogurt, and pretzels. Because the total nutrients in each day can vary, the sums for each food group in the MyPlate Total column may not most accurately represent what a resident would actually eat. Our calculations took into account the main entree for the day, not the standard optional cold plate, drinks, or snacks. For example, if the MyPlate total for the day is short in fruit, this may be made up in orange juice as a beverage or apples as a snack. Therefore, we did take into account all of the required nutrients for adolescents and incorporated them into the menu, even if the MyPlate totals do not fully represent it.
