The Scottish Parliament A landmark for 21st century democracy was the description used by Her Majesty The Queen when the Scottish Parliament building opened in 2004.

Constructed from a mixture of steel, oak, and granite, the building is one of the country s most innovative designs, having won several major architectural awards.

3 The Scottish Parliament A landmark for 21st century democracy was the description used by Her Majesty The Queen when the Scottish Parliament building opened in The Parliament sits at the foot of Edinburgh s famous Royal Mile in front of the spectacular Holyrood Park and Salisbury Crags, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Constructed from a mixture of steel, oak, and granite, the building is one of the country s most innovative designs, having won several major architectural awards. Drawing inspiration from Scotland s natural landscape, leading world architect Enric Miralles developed a design for a building that should sit in the land and arrive into the city almost out of the rock. Many of the architect s symbols are inspired by Scotland s built heritage and the surrounding Canongate area from the Saltire-studded arched vaults of the Main Hall to the crow-stepped windows of the Members offices. A spectacular venue, the Main Hall is the perfect setting for your event, from champagne receptions to awards ceremonies and corporate dinners. The Main Hall is also the setting for some of the Parliament s Art Collection including the Honours of Scotland sculpture - an abstract design based on the three Honours of Scotland - the Crown, Sword and Sceptre and a portrait of Her Majesty The Queen which was commissioned as part of the commemoration of the Parliament s tenth anniversary. 7 Corporate Events Our venues are available for hire on non-parliamentary business days including Mondays, Fridays, weekends and during recess periods. The Main Hall is available for hire in the evening once the building is closed to the public. The Members Room is available day and night.
