Our next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 13th at 3:30. Thank you to all the parents and teachers who are willing to volunteer their time to help make the Halloween carnival a success! Also, please take time to remember and reflect on the many lives that were lost on September 11, Here's an easy crock pot recipe for all you busy parents: Scalloped Potatoes and Chicken 1/4 cup chopped green peppers salt to taste 1/2 cup chopped onions can of cream of celery soup 1 1/2 cups diced velveeta cheese 1 soup can of milk 7 medium potatoes, sliced 3-4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts Place layers of peppers, onions, cheese, and potatoes, and a sprinkling of salt in crock pot. Sprinkle salt over chicken and lay on top of potatoes. Combine soup and milk and pour into crock pot, pushing meat down into liquid. Cover. Cook on high 1 1/2 hours. Reduce temp to low and cook 3-4 hours. Test potatoes, if not done, continue cooking for about another 30 min to 1 hour until done. Page 2

3 FCCLA Fun Day a Success It was fun and games for all as Mrs. Vandiver and FCCLA president Ester Marquez along with fellow officers Bruce Marrero, Jackson Dailey, Dustin Lawson, Amanda Fowler, Stephanie Hogue, and Josh Cannon welcomed new members into the local chapter of FCCLA. The members enjoyed such games as the Emblem Game, Sharks and Minnows, and Psychiatrist. Teamwork came into play as they built a Fun Day Participants-Front Dillon Harred; 2nd row Lyndsey Calhoun, Ben Brown, Britton Halbert, Virginia Rodriguez, Megan Self, Ester Marquez; 3rd row Amanda Fowler, Josh Cannon, McKenna Duncan, Shelby Williams, Mikala Forbus, Dustin Lawson; back row Stephanie Hogue, Dylan Wilkins, Halie Waid, Bruce Marrero. square while blindfolded. The students enjoyed a chili dog supper with homemade FCCLA brownies. Another activity that FCCLA students have been busy working on is reading with young students. They read to the students, and the students also read to them. First grade teacher Mrs. Tubb says, I love seeing my former kindergarten students helping me with my current first grade students. She went on to say that the elementary children love working with the high school students. It helps their reading improve. The more we read, the better we ll be, said Mrs. Tubb. Mrs. Vandiver s FCCLA students will be busy next week preparing all of their entries from cake decorating to photography for the Hopkins County Fall Festival. Page 3

If your child did not receive the form or if you have questions, please contact... Sherri Thompson ext Beta is kicking off a drive to gather items needed by our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. They will collect these items and then send them to a troop that is chosen by the Beta Club. They tell us that food (snacks) and entertainment items are always the number 1 request. 6 Lady Bears in District Opener at 4:30 in North Hopkins Today We played decent, but we just couldn t find a way to win, said Coach Toon about this week s Lady Bears volleyball game against Dodd City. The Lady Bears lost 23-25, 15-25, on Tuesday night. Next Tuesday we will meet Dodd City for the third time at 4:30 in Dodd City for the varsity team. Last weekend s Cumby tournament was disappointing too. Today we will be at North Hopkins with the JV and the varsity teams playing their district opener. Encouragement and support from the community and school will be appreciated by the Lady Bears. 7 JH Lady Bears A Team Defeats Avery September 9th, JH Volleyball - Sulphur Bluff vs Avery. JH Lady Bears Volleyball Roster: "B" Team Alexis Greer, Tori Dorner, Sierra Swanson, Mardi Fite, Kelsey Wolf. A team is Judy Brown, Skylar Evans, Harlie Harred, Angie Alvarez, Shelbi Hurley, Lacey Calhoun. Sulphur Bluff "B" vs Avery "B" Team: Ist game , 2nd game , 3rd game- Match- Lost. Points: Judy Brown-3, Tori Dorner 3, Angie Alvarez- 4, Kelsey Wolf 1. Sulphur Bluff "A" Team vs Avery "A": Ist game , 2nd game , 3rd game Match - WON!!!! Points: Brown-4, Evans-8, Harred-3, Alvarez-10, Hurley-7, Calhoun-6. Coach Evans says, Both teams played really great. These girls improve every time that they step out on the floor. Still have a long way to go, but they are getting there. Great Job and Way to battle Lady Bears!! The next game is Monday, September 13, Sulphur Bluff ISD vs James Bowie. The game starts at 5:00 PM with the "B" Team first, following with "A" Team. JH Bears Baseball Defeats North Hopkins 9-3 Sulphur Bluff 9 North Hopkins 3 Sulphur Bluff Game Stats Justin Goldsmith got the win on the mound for the Bears throwing 9 strikeouts in 4 innings of work allowing only 1 run. Dakota Emerson came in the last three innings to close it out for the Bears. He threw 5 strikeouts in those 3 innings only giving up 2 runs. Dakota Emerson and Hunter Powers led the way at the plate, Emerson going 3 for 4 with a walk driving in 3 runs on 2 singles and a triple, he also had three runs scored. Hunter Powers went 4 for 4 driving in 3 runs on 3 singles and a double. Also driving in runs were Justin Goldsmith, Cody Vance, and Thomas Coberly. Justin drove in a run with 1 of his 2 singles, Cody Vance drove a run in on a single he hit, and Thomas Coberly drove his run in on a double. Taylor Josey and Tyler Cannon also had a hit a piece for the Bears. Other batters who came across the plate to score were Jaden Goldsmith, Al Fowler, and Luke Anderson. The Bears are 2-0 and will play Harts Bluff Away next Thursday game time 4:00 p.m. Page 7

8 Sulphur Bluff FFA Enters Stew Contest Travis Allan, FFA officer, reports, This year we are entered to participate in the Hopkins County Fall Festival Stew Contest. If you would like to help out, let us know. The stew contest is September 18 on Saturday. Even if you just want some good stew, come by and see us at our site. The Sulphur Bluff Fun Day is next Thursday, September 16. Everone in or interested in FFA is welcome to come. There will be food, games, and a lot of fun.
