2 A Message From Your Commodore Dear Club Members It seems like just yesterday that I accepted the responsibili es of being Commodore for NERYC and 8 months have gone by. With only 4 months to go in my term I should be able to sail through the summer and relish my upcoming year as Past Commodore. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your perspec ve, that is not my style as we have much more to do to make sure the club con nues on its journey to prosperity. In a week or so you will get a club finance update from Ron Rocker that shows a er 6 months of 2014 the club has made great progress in improving our financial status. By now you will have recognized that the club is ac ve almost every day. It is this ac vity that is underpinning our success. We have made great strides in adding more member events, enjoying the special Friday night races, watching the junior program con nue to grow, increasing the number of catering events, filling the restaurant on just about any night with members, and most importantly the slips are filled with boats. All of this is the result of your board of governors working endlessly to make NERYC a be er place and we are not done. Coming up this Thursday is the world famous NERYC July 3 rd fireworks party. This year in addi on to live music on the lawn we will bring back the raw oyster bar and barbecue on the lawn. Some of you may be heading on the cruise to Cape May. Some of you may stay behind to relax on your boat looking out over the river. Whatever your choice for the July 4 th weekend may be it is always a special one. Don t forget to the check the club calendar for the many 2

3 other events we have planned. Please look for the band dona on jar as this is a pass-the-hat event to cover the music expenses. As I men oned, the board s ll has lots of work to do. We are just beginning the process of looking for a few members that would help us out and fill in the few board vacancies that are coming open. We are in need of a new fleet captain, membership chair and a new secretary this year. The responsibili es vary but each are a great way for you to give back a li le to the club that provides so much great enjoyment to each of you. If being a board member is not on your plan for next year we can always use volunteers to help keep things opera ng at the level you have come to appreciate. The new well has been dug and we are now back in full business. I appreciate your pa ence and understanding if you were caught washing your boat and could not get the suds completely removed. A great thanks to Brandon and the restaurant staff who kept us opera ng through a difficult period. See you at the club or on the water. Rick Hanson Commodore. 3

4 July 3 rd Fireworks Party See the North East Fireworks 6:00 p.m. to Ticket Sold for: Hot Dogs $4 Hamburgers $5 Chicken Sandwich $6 Raw Oysters $1 Steamed Shrimp TBD Show an ID to get an ARM BAND for alcoholic beverages. Bar setup outside for special drinks. Burgee Lounge and Veranda open for dining as usual. Dance to the music of Rock Slyde. (Pass the hat to pay for them.) Volunteers to assist with the grills and/or to shuck oysters will be welcome. 4

6 No matter how you get there, you do not want to miss The Cape May Cruise, July 4 to July 12. We are approaching that July 4th weekend where we have the fireworks and party at the club on the 3rd, and the kick off to our 4th of July cruise to Cape May, NJ on July 4 th. A fantastic time and great weather is on the horizon for the trip from July 4 to July 12. The South Jersey Marina will be providing us with discounted group slip rates, free shuttle service to and from the beach, town, shops, and restaurants from 7AM to 8PM. You can participate in some or all of this cruise either by boat or by land. Please contact Fleet Captain Tim Weidman, if you have not done so already, to let him know you want to be part of the fun. You wouldn t want to miss the fireworks on the Cape May Beach on the 4th! Reach out to the South Jersey Marina directly to reserve your slip at and ask for Chris Booth the Dock master, let him know you are with the NERYC group. 7 Garage Sale: News and Notes There is not a Garage Sale on the calendar this year. I think it is time to give it a rest for a year or two. Although we have done well at these events, there has always been a great deal of material left over. For the past two sales we have found good places to donate the left overs but this was not always the case. I think it is time to give it rest for a year or two. Restaurant Hours: The summer restaurant hours are: Thursday: 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday: 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday: 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday: 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Bar hours are an hour later than the restaurant. Your continued patronage is appreciated. When there is an outside event in the Commodore s Ballroom, the Burgee Lounge is available for members to enjoy both for bar service as well as lite fare. 7

8 Open House: More News and Notes A casual Open House Day is being held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday July 26. Street signs need to be posted throughout the tri-state area. They will be in the lobby for pickup by members. Help in getting out the signs is greatly appreciated. Catalina Cup We would like to call the attention of all our Catalina owners. We are looking for those interested in starting an annual Catalina Cup competition. If you are interested, reserve Saturday July 26 for this event. 13 North East River Raft Up July 25 to July 27 Just above the Club, only a short hop for all families to enjoy the fun, grilling out on the boats, swimming, drinks, and more. Arrive in your tender, canoe, dinghy, or freighter. If it floats come join us. Spend as little or a much time with us as you want. There s no requirement to be at the raft up for the whole time. 13
