Holmes New Officers for Year Installed The Chef s Gavel Chef de Gare: I want to start by saying heartfelt thank you for making our Installation of officers a special one. Our nurse in training and bingo volunteers were the icing on the cake. Donny, a special thanks for being my mentor; it s going to be a hard act to follow. To Dan, you know the special thing you did, "merci beaucoup." To the Voyagers, you folks and your family are a class act, and I am looking forward to a great year as your Chef de Gare. Appointed officers Renny Keagle as Correspondant and Ron Heim as Commissaire Intendant were also present. Correspondant and Chef de Gare Passe Renny Keagle was the installing officer. Incoming Chef de Gare Bill Fleming was passed the gavel from out-going Chef Donnie Watson. Bill was presented his Chef de Gare pin and Donnie his Chef de Gare passe pin w/diamond. I will be raffling a custom Damascus folding knife (back-lock), hand forged Damascus blade hard wood handle, fantastic handmade eagle eye shape steel bolster, with the following dimensions overall 9.0" (opened) 5.0" (closed) 4.0" blade at the August promenade. We are growing in numbers but growing in what we do in our community as well especially in our nurses training scholarship awards. Looks like we will graduate another RN this year.! I have the 2016 cards and two special cards this year from Nationale, one for Charlie Webster (and myself) commemorating 25 years in La Societe. I will have the 2016 cards at the next promenade, we have several who have already paid their dues so our first transmittal should be a good one to kick off the year towards 100+ percent. At the next promenade we hope to induct a new member PG Raul Ballesteros and finish installation of officers. I will have my laminating machine and laminate available to anyone desiring to laminate any of their cards cost $1.00 per card for nurses training AND much to discuss on our upcoming schnitzel dinner. A $ scholarship from V-605 and a $ scholarship from Grande du Texas for her UTEP nursing tuition. Now with the Forty and Eight s help, Candice is expected to graduate this December congratulations to her and good luck! We look forward to her pinning ceremony. This was one of Donnie s last official duties as Chef de Gare. While visiting home in the OH/KY area, Renny visited V-097, Hamilton County, Grand du Ohio and had the privilege of installing by formal wreck a new member/pg and witnessing the installation of their officers followed by great White Castles and friendship! Bill comes into office after being Aumonier and Chef de Train One. Our new Chef de Gare is also responsible for our bingo program at the Texas State Veterans Home all the best in the upcoming year to our new Chef!!! Do you live in Texas? Myth or fact? Should not the Texas state flag be flown on a separate pole from the US flag, and at the same height, versus on one pole beneath the US flag as though it were subservient? The flag code clearly states that state flags may be flown under the US flag on the same pole. There is no exception for Texas: From the US Flag Code (f) When flags of States, cities, or localities, or pennants of societies are flown on the same halyard with the flag of the United States, the latter should always be at the peak. When the flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the flag of the United States should be hoisted first and lowered last. No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the United States flag s right. The Texas Flag Code, says the same thing: Sec DISPLAY ON FLAGPOLE OR FLAGSTAFF WITH FLAG OF UNITED STATES. (a) If it is necessary for the state flag (Texas flag) and the flag of the United States to be displayed on the same flagpole or flagstaff, the United States flag should be above the state flag.

6 The Train Car Six ARE YOU READY FOR PAID UP FOR LIFE? Our dues rate for PUFL is $20.00, so it is simple, see above, find your age bracket and below it is your cost. If your current dues are paid, you may submit one lump sum or pay over 12 months, however your first payment must be 25% of the total PUFL cost. Once paid, you will receive a permanent plastic PUFL card and annually still get a paper card with total number of years, etc. Applications and initial payment must be submitted to Correspondant. Applications available on line at the 40/8 website or see Correspondant at any time. Checks, MO, most credit cards accepted. BET YOU DIDN T KNOW The Proper Way to Eat Hot Dogs, According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, a part of the American Meat Institute, has an official etiquette guide for hot dog-eating, in order to do the summer staple justice. Surprisingly, many of the rules are intended to prevent people from getting too fancy with their franks. No need for fancy garnishes keep the presentation simple. Sticking with the laid-back theme, be sure to only use plain buns or those with poppy or sesame seeds. Even if they're your favorite, the council's website says "sun-dried tomato buns or basil buns are considered gauche with franks," so you might want to stay away. Dressing your hot dog is also a bigger deal than you might think. First, there's an order to follow. Wet condiments (mustard or chili, for example) go on first, followed by chunky ingredients if you're putting onions or sauerkraut on your hot dog, this is the time to do it. Next comes cheese. Spices, such as pepper or celery salt, come last. The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council also has rules about ketchup, much to the dismay of Internet commenters. According to the council, any person over the age of 18 should not top their hot dog with ketchup, despite the fact that over half of all Americans use the condiment. Council president Janet Riley (the so-called "Queen of Wien") is shocked by this: "Ketchup s popularity was the big surprise, considering our etiquette rules and ketchup s notable absence from regional hot dog favorites like the Chicago Dog and the New York Dog." Because hot dogs are such casual foods, you should never use a fork and knife. Instead, always use your hands for any hot dog on a bun. While you're at it, make sure you take no more than five bites to finish your frank (although seven is acceptable for foot-longs). Make sure you eat every part of the hot dog, including any leftover parts of the bun. Finally, make sure your beverage of choice doesn't outshine the food. Wine shouldn't be paired with hot dogs. Instead, opt for beer, soda, lemonade, iced tea really, anything that doesn't clash with your non-ketchup topping. From mentalfloss.com
