1 Week 1 Welcome to Durham and Fuqua! We are excited that you are here. This calendar outlines all of the Orientation events planned for you. The goal of Partners Orientation is to introduce you to Fuqua, Durham and new friends! We have many activities planned to jump-start your Fuqua experience, so come to as many events as your schedule allows. We are here to help you get acclimated to your new life in Durham; please don't hesitate to reach out to us! Community Event Fuqua Partners Orientation Kick-Off Fuqua, Davis Room 6:00-7:30 pm Join us for a light dinner to kick off your first year at Fuqua! Meet other new partners, meet the your Fuqua Partners Orientation Co-Chairs, get your Fuqua Partners Orientation schedule and t-shirt and enjoy delicious food. Children welcome. *Please RSVP on Facebook Fuqua Orientation Kick-Off Party Motorco 10:00 pm - 2:00 am Join your student for the kick-off party. The theme is "90's" so get your costumes ready for this fun party! Buses will be provided - students will receive transportation information. THURSDAY JULY 31 Weekly Partners Lunch Foster's Market 12:30-1:30 pm Weekly lunches are an ongoing event throughout the year. Join us for our first lunch of the school year at a local favorite: Foster's Market, 2694 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd (aka ). Great sandwiches and salads! 5:00-7:00 pm Carnival Winter Garden / Fox Center Join your student and have some fun at Fuqua's very own carnival! Children are encouraged to attend and join in all the fun and games! 10:30-12:00 pm FRIDAY AUGUST 1 Fuqua Section Olympics Fuqua Watch your student compete with their section in a variety of athletic and non-athletic events, like the briefcase toss, dizzy bat, and tug-of-war! Community Event: Warehouse Blues Concert Series Central Park, Durham 6:00-8:00 pm Bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy some smokin hot music. It s totally free! People watch, enjoy a cold beverage or shake a tail feather. Great for kids and dogs too! Food and beer available for purchase. The Pavilion, 501 Foster Street
2 Fuqua Orientation Party Parizade 10:00 pm - 2:00 am Join your student for the kick-off party. The theme is "nerds", so get your costumes ready for this fun party! Buses will be provided - students will receive transportation information. SATURDAY AUGUST 2 Partners Walk Washington-Duke Trail 11:00-12:00 pm Come join us for a walk around the WaDuke! Dogs are welcome! Explore the beautiful Al Buehler Trail (a.k.a. the "Wa-Duke"), get some exercise and socialize with fellow FY and SY Partners. The trail is a 3 mile loop around the Duke golf course. Meet at the trail head along Cameron Blvd (on Cameron between Erwin Rd and Science Dr) - see map here: Parking is available. Week 2 3:00-4:00 pm SUNDAY, AUGUST 3 Parlour Outing Come enjoy some tasty ice-cream at a favorite local spot in Downtown Durham! 117 Market St, Durham. The Parlour, Durham MONDAY, AUGUST 4 This is the first day of classes for Global Institute! Wish your student good luck! Southpoint Shopping Southpoint Mall, Durham 1:00-3:00 pm Southpoint Mall is a large mall in South Durham. Nordstrom, Anthropologie, Crate & Barrel, and more, this mall has everything you could need (in addition to some delicious restaurants and a great movie theater). Meet at the fountain in front of the movie theater Fayetteville Road TUESDAY, AUGUST 5 Fuqua Families - Nasher Museum Nasher Museum 11:00-11:30 am Come to the art museum on Duke's campus for a fun hands-on activity/craft, all ages welcome! Our group is scheduled at 11am so we can all be together but the Nasher activity is open from 10am - 12pm if you need to attend earlier Campus Drive, Durham, NC *Please RSVP on Facebook Happy Hour at Full Steam Brewery Full Steam Brewery 5:30-7:30 pm Fullsteam Brewery (726 Rigsbee Ave) is an innovative business creating hand-crafted beer from locally-sourced ingredients. It was also started by Fuqua grads! Come check out this great Durham hang-out. Grab a beer and we'll provide the food. *Please RSVP on Facebook
3 WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6 Art Night Scrap Exchange 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm Join the Fuqua Partners and let your creative juices flow! Try your hand at batik, an age-old technique of cloth decorating using wax-resist dyeing. Bring your own snacks and drinks (alcohol permitted). $20 per person. *Please RSVP on Facebook, space is limited! 8:30-11:30 am THURSDAY, AUGUST 7 Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity 217 S Guthrie St - Jenn Come spend the morning volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Durham. We're aiming for volunteers at 217 South Guthrie Street. Donesha and Sandra will be your site supervisors and they are very fun to work with. Duke Gardens is a 55-acre public botanic garden on the campus of Duke University. Parking available ( or in the Allen lot off of Flowers Drive if you have your parking pass. We'll meet on the South Lawn (weather permitting) Week 4 SUNDAY, AUGUST 17 Ice Cream at Maple View Farms Maple View Farms (Hillsborough) 3:00-4:00 pm Our flagship store sits atop a hill in the beautiful countryside of Hillsborough, NC, offering guests an expansive view of Maple View Farm from the relaxing front porch. The first pitch will be thrown at 7:05pm. We have reserved a block of seats, so please *RSVP on Facebook* by 12:00 p.m on Saturday, August 9th. Tickets are $10 each - please bring cash/check with you (cash preferred). This will be a fun, relaxed evening. Students and SY Partners are welcome!

Woodcroft Pkwy Meet at the Pineywood dog park for a puppy playdate. With 3 separate fenced areas, this park is great for dogs of all sizes. Stick around afterwards and we'll grab a drink and a bite to eat with our furry friends. Students and 2Y Partners welcome!

Downtown Durham Taste Carolina is a food tour company that will take you to many of the foodie hotspots in Durham! Week 6 SUNDAY AUGUST 31 12:00-4:00 pm Food Truck Rodeo Durham Central Park A Durham Central Park Food Truck Rodeo is an all-ages Sunday afternoon gathering of dozens of the Triangle s most popular food trucks, five times each year. This is the original food truck rodeo of the Triangle an event that helped start the food truck craze. The event is free to attend. You simply pay for what you decide to eat from the trucks menus from savory and stick-to-your-ribs to sweet treats. Guest trucks have included included American Meltdown, MaMa Dukes, Pie Pushers, Porchetta, Fosters, Chez Moi Bakery and OnlyBurger. Locally-brewed beer and bands are always on hand. Dogs are allowed at the Food Truck Rodeo on regular (not retractable) leashes. Food Truck Rodeos are rain or shine. Most trucks accept credit cards but an ATM machine is on site as well. Free parking is available in nearby lots.
