5 Introduction v Introduction Ice cream sundaes are a popular treat for college students, especially around the University of North Texas (UNT). Students have a variety of ice cream parlors to choose from, but it can be difficult to decide on one. Our purpose is to find the best place for an ice cream sundae, based on specific criteria, such as store quality, price, distance from UNT, and taste.

7 Method 1 Method The stores we visited were Beth Marie s, Braum s, and Dairy Queen. We looked for the following criteria: Store quality o Appearance of the store o Customer service Price Distance from UNT Taste and Variety o Flavor Options o Quality of Taste When evaluating each store, we rated each section on a scale from 1-5, with 5 being the highest score. For the final comparisons, we averaged each store s ratings from every section and compared each store to one another. The store with the highest final rating received the highest recommendation. Store Quality Store quality was based on: Appearance of the store - We looked for cleanliness, easy accessibility, and the overall appeal of the store. Customer Service - We looked for how we were greeted, how quickly we were attended to, and etiquette during service. Price Price was based on the price of one small sundae. Distance from UNT Distance was based on how far away each ice cream parlor was from UNT, within a 3 mile radius. Taste and Variety Taste and Variety were based on: Flavor Options - We looked at the variety and amount of sundae flavors that were offered at each location. Quality of Taste - We looked for an overall quality of taste, including texture and the more flavorful ice cream.

9 Results 3 Results This section shows our results, based on the specific criteria from our three visits. Beth Marie s The table below shows the results from our visit to Beth Marie s. Criteria Rating Store Quality: Appearance of Store - 5 Customer Service 5 5 Price: $ Distance from UNT: 0.94 miles 5 Taste and Variety: Flavor Options - 5 Quality of Taste Overall Rating: 4.38 Beth Marie s, located about a mile off campus, received an overall rating of 4.38 out of 5. The store s old-fashioned theme created an inviting atmosphere with its antique furniture and warm colors. As we walked in, we were greeted by an enthusiastic employee. The menu featured an assortment of ice cream flavors and toppings you can choose to create your own sundae. The price of a small sundae was $3.65. The texture and flavor of the ice cream itself was average, however the toppings added to the overall flavor of the sundae.

Criteria Rating Store Quality: Appearance of Store - 4 Customer Service 4 4 Price: $ Distance from UNT: 2.97 miles 3 Taste and Variety: Flavor Options - 5 Quality of Taste 5 5 Overall Rating: 4.25 Braum s, located about 3 miles off campus, received an overall rating of 4.25 out of 5. The store was clean, well maintained, and offered a comfortable environment. We were welcomed with a friendly smile and immediately offered service. The menu featured a variety of specialty sundaes which cost $2.15 for a small serving. The fresh toppings complemented the smooth and flavorful ice cream, giving the sundae an overall excellent taste.

11 Results 5 Dairy Queen The table below shows the results from our visit to Dairy Queen. Criteria Rating Store Quality: Appearance of Store - 3 Customer Service 3 3 Price: $ Distance from UNT: 2.9 miles 4 Taste and Variety: Flavor Options - 4 Quality of Taste Overall Rating: 3.88 Dairy Queen, located about 3 miles from UNT, received an overall rating of 3.88 out of 5. The store had a small-town quality to it, with its simple and relaxed environment. The employee was polite and respectful as we placed our order. The menu offered a sufficient number of sundae types to choose from. A small sundae cost $2.89, which was a fair price based on the generous amount of ice cream we received. The rich and creamy ice cream, topped off with the warm hotfudge and crunchy nuts, made the taste of the sundae above average.

13 Conclusion and Recommendation 7 Conclusion and Recommendation Our purpose was to find the best place for an ice cream sundae. We visited three ice cream stores within a three mile radius from UNT: Beth Marie s, Braum s and Dairy Queen. Each store was evaluated based on store quality, price, distance from UNT, and taste. We rated the specific criteria for each store and averaged the scores to determine the best ice cream store. Based on our results and methodology, we found that Beth Marie s had the overall highest rating compared to Braum s and Dairy Queen. We recommend the ice cream sundaes at Beth Marie s, over Dairy Queen and Braum s, based on the store s atmosphere, customer service, close proximity to campus, reasonable prices, and taste. Beth Marie s old-fashioned theme and lively customer service offers a more enjoyable experience. It is also easier to access, because it is within walking distance from campus. The price was fair in terms of the large variety and great tasting quality of the sundaes. For students at UNT, we recommend Beth Marie s for the best ice cream sundae experience. Beth Marie s
