3 Diverse Learning Center DLC Parents, We are excited and busy with our new curriculum that has all of our students engaged in learning at all levels. Each month there is a different theme that guides our learning and our theme for the month of September will be Government, with a focus on School. For the month of October, we will be focusing on Life Science: Animals in their homes. Reminder to parents, please return student folders back to school once files have been received and remember to initial your students notebook message from their teacher each time. Also it would be helpful to check your child s backpack daily. Homework assignments will be sent home once each week and parent and child should work on this together. Once completed please send it back to school with your child to receive a motivating reward. In order to ensure that your student is safe and others are safe, please keep communication open with school about any concerns that will affect your child s day at school. In the event that your child is not feeling well fever, aches or body discharge) please refer to the APS protocol regarding illnesses and when to keep your child home. We would like to ask parents to send in a simple sports water bottle, labeled with your child s name to be kept at school to help with encouraging hydration during the day. Please do so as soon as possible. Diverse Learning Center Team Mrs. Michelle Lord-Bojang & Ms. Melissa Jackson Kenton School Accountability Committee An important part of any public school in Aurora Public Schools is the development of a School Accountability Committee SAC). The task of this committee will be to engage the community to identify and solve problems, celebrate success and create a positive and supportive culture between home and school for our students. At Kenton, the SAC is a small representative committee of parents, staff and community members who are involved with reviewing Unified Improvement Plan academic performance, growth and school-wide improvement), staffing needs and budget issues. The School Accountability Committee will also: Make recommendations for assessment of the educational program and supplementary programs to enhance student achievement. Make recommendations for establishing goals and a plan for improvement based on an annual needs assessment. All goals must be consistent with school mission and vision. If you are interested on serving on this committee we will meet once a month on the last Monday in the morning from 8:00-8:45 am. If you would like to know more about this opportunity, please call the office to speak with Mrs. Woodward or Ms. Sheets ). SAC Dates: September 28 October 26 November 30 January 25 February 29 March 21 April 25
