1 Codsall High Federation of Schools Incorporating: Codsall Community High School Bilbrook CE (VC) Middle School Perton Middle School Executive Headteacher: Mrs. M. Tunnicliffe B.Ed. NPQH April 2014 Perton Middle School Gainsborough Drive, Perton, Wolverhampton, WV6 7NR Tel: Fax: Website: Message from the Headteacher Thank you for your continued support over the past, very busy term. We look forward to some good SATs results from year 6 and a successful transition for year 8 s. Visit to Australia and Hong Kong schools I was fortunate to be selected to visit schools in Hong Kong and Australia, along with 29 other National Leaders from across the Country, for two weeks in February. The trip was very interesting and informative and many of us brought back ideas to use in our own schools. Easter Revision Easter SATs revision classes are available for year 6 students. Please contact school for further information. I hope you all have a great Easter and a good rest. Mrs. Tunnicliffe Executive Headteacher Staff leaving at Easter Mr. Crumpton Coordinator of Humanities Mr. Carpenter Teacher of Maths A special goodbye to Mr Crumpton, who has been working at Perton Middle School for 16 years teaching Geography and History. Thank you for all the hard work and the contributions that you have made to the school. Also goodbye to Mr Carpenter who has been with us teaching maths. Thank you Miss Gardner for your help with P.E. They will be greatly missed by all staff and students and we wish them all the very best for the future. 2 School Start Time Reminder that the first bell in the morning goes at 8.35am and all students are expected to be on the premises ready for the second bell at 8.40am which is registration time. There is also concern that some pupils are arriving very late at school, often after the morning bell has gone. You will appreciate that it is important for all children to arrive at school by the designated time and we would appreciate your help in ensuring punctuality in the future. Respect Day. In February we had a Respect Day where the students learnt about different cultures from around the world. The students were placed in to different groups to experience various activities. African Drumming, Asian dancing and a lesson in Polish. There were many other activities as well. All the students had an exciting day.
3 Annual Charity Netball Marathon On Wednesday 5th march 2014, our year 5 netball club took part in a three hour Charity Netball Marathon in aid of Promise Dreams. This year the girls raised over p, which is a fantastic achievement for a worthy cause. Well done girls! We would also like to say a huge Thank You to all family and friends who sponsored the girls on that evening. Correct Equipment For Lessons Could we please remind students / parents about the importance of having a pen, pencil, ruler in every lesson, plus, ideally, a pencil sharpener, eraser and 3 or 4 pencil crayons. Sorting out equipment for half a class in lessons can take over 15 minutes which is then 'lost learning time'. Congratulations In late March, Alex Hall in year 7 took part in the Mary Moss music competition which was organised by Cannock Performing Arts. Alex won the Junior Brass section and was presented with a trophy and a cheque at the Cannock event. Well done Alex! Sports Relief 2014 On Friday 21st March students were allowed to wear sports clothes instead of school uniform in return for a donation of The money that has been raised is
4 Formula 1 Good luck to students going to the F1 in School Regional Final, which is at RAF Cosford. We would just like to say a special thank you to Hills Coaches for sponsoring us for this event. Futsal News Year 7 girls Eleanor Porton, Demi McCalliog, Sarah Horton and Katie Johnson, came 4th overall in Stoke and Staffordshire. The Year 8 girls Shona Blyth, Sophie Maskew, Harriet Baker, Emily McGuinness and Tegan Carter came 2nd overall in the district at Cheslyn Hay. Well done to all that took part you should all be proud of your achievement. Codsall Dance Festival Isabelle Chapman, Rachel Waterhouse,Amy Hawkins, Hannah Bigford, Toni Weatherington, Harriet Baker, and Katie Bannister are taking part this week in the annual Codsall Dance Festival hosted at Codsall Community High School, along with students from Codsall High School and Bilbrook and Codsall Middle Schools. Around 100 students overall will be taking part to promote dance within the local area and we wish the girls the very best of luck for the event. Lost Property A gentle reminder about lost property. We are still having a large amount of lost property in school. If an item of clothing is lost, please check at reception or ask your child to look in the normal area by the PE changing rooms. Please also consider adding name tags, as this helps greatly with the return of clothing to the rightful owner.

6 On Saturday 12 April at Perton Library, Perton Spring Festival (previously known as Springwatch) returns from 10.30am to 3.00pm Students from Perton Middle School have started their preparations for the Spring Festival. As part of their curriculum they are growing annual flowering plants which they will use to plant out a flower bed in Perton Library s wildlife garden. The bed has a secret pictorial theme which will only be revealed when the plants flower in the summer. This year will see more live animals than ever; old favourites the Daubenton bat, Celly the hedgehog, ferrets and some of this year's lambs will be joined by new-comers the hens, goats, greyhounds and donkeys (who will be offering rides to the youngest members of the family). And, if the weather is warm enough there will be a visit by a racoon, not often seen in Staffordshire! Taking a step back in time, visitors will be able to compare their own head to that of a Neanderthal and other early humans, learn how illness was treated in Tudor times, and view fossils from millions of years ago. Other activities include a wildlife walk, a 'who dun it' to solve, meet the moths, pole lathe and forest crafts, badge-making, seed bombs, chainsaw sculpture and much more. Owls and raptors will be showing off their aerial skills in a flying display, and Perton's very own aquatic mini-beasts are retuning by popular demand.
