8 COURSE OPEN! WINTER GOLF COURSE CONDITIONS The ABC s of Frost Delays: Every year we either move into the coolness of fall or are dealing with the lingering cold of late winter. It is during these times that we experience frosty mornings and delays for our golfers. Why does frost cause problems? Frost is essentially frozen dew. These ice crystals can harden or freeze the cell structure inside this plant. When frosty turf grass is walked or driven upon, the plants suffer leaf damage. The areas of most concern are the crowns of the plant and just above ground level or the apex. This is considered to be the heart of the plant. Taller grass has more leaf area to insulate the crown; therefore damage is usually restricted to its leaves, which do grow out. So our attentions are focused on the shorter grass i.e. fairways, tees, and especially putting greens. Even slight damage to a green can bruise the plant s apex or crown. The damaged plants will be slower to recover and will inhibit new short growth in spring. Simply walking on frost covered greens will more than likely cause spongy, thin, wet, and weak greens in the spring. Please be aware that damage may not emerge until 48 to 72 hours later as the leaves die and brown. Remember, since one foursome can leave several hundred footprints on each green, there is potential for damage to be extensive. Thanks for understanding. I apologize for any inconvenience a frost delay may cause. The coming of winter does not mean the end of golf until spring. There are plenty of playable days for the hardy souls. When you play, we ask that you please observe the conditions and procedures set-up by the Golf Course Superintendent and the Green Committee. Some of our normal winter play practices are as follows: Remove regular tee markers and place winter tee markers for everyone s use. Put two cups in the greens and ask players to alternate flag back and forth. Prepare area and put temporary cups in front of greens for use during spring thaw or like conditions. We encourage you to continue to play golf and enjoy the facility and thank you in advance for following our winter playing conditions. Please check with the clubhouse or the Club s website for winter playing practices. Keep Warm! Maintaining putting quality is always our goal. Walking or driving on frosty turf not only can affect todays play, but also can effect next season as well. Thanks again for your consideration and patience. You may still enroll in this program by signing the Hole-In-One book in the Pro Shop as well. This letter is also available to download on the Club Website at If you have any questions on this please do not hesitate to call us in the golf shop at Cart packages and their rates for 2014 are unchanged from 2013 and are as follows. A package of 20 rides is available to you for $ A normal 18-hole cart fee will be $18.00 in Purchasing a package will save you $3.00 per ride or a total of $60.00 for twenty rides. In 2014 each member will be able to purchase up to two guest packages for six greens fees at a price of $ Our daily guest fee rates in 2014 will be $45.00 weekdays and $55.00 on weekends and holidays. There is a ten dollar surcharge to use guest packages on weekends and holidays. As you can see this saves you ten dollars per guest on weekdays and ten dollars per guest on weekends. This rate remains the same as it was in Range packages for 2014 are unchanged and available as follows. A family range package is available for $ and a single range package is available for $ Range packages allow you unlimited practice balls on the warm-up range and lower range. Weather permitting the practice facilities will be open from April through November in Bag storage fees for 2014 are unchanged at a price of $ Collapsible cart storage is still available at a rate of $ Please remember that collapsible carts must be folded up, fit within, and be stored in a club/bag storage space in the bag room. Power cart storage and its policies for 2014 are the same as 2013 and are as follows. For a annual fee of $225.00, you will have a power cart storage space in the lower bag room. Your clubs will be cleaned when staff is available, your cart will be stored, and you will have an outlet designated to your space for battery charging for your power cart. Please be aware that club staff are not responsible for plugging in or charging of your electric cart. That is solely the responsibility of the cart owner. There are 36 spaces available and these spaces are available on a first-come-first served basis. People who used this service in 2013 have already been called to determine if they want to reserve their spot again in 2014 and there is currently a waitlist for power cart storage in the Pro Shop.
