The dance will be casual dress and the theme will be in the Hawaiian luau style. Any offcampus guest must be pre-registered in the Student Services Office in order to be admitted to the dance. Applications Available for Fall, 2016 Any full-time resident student in good academic and social standing and who has resided in the dorm for one full year, may apply for a position of resident advisor for the fall, Both male and female applicants are needed. These positions offer tremendous leadership opportunities and are very rewarding in that the R.A. can be a mentor to fellow students. Applications may be picked up in DSC 205. The deadline for all applications is tentatively March 31st. Students with questions can talk to current R.A.s or see Ms. Stumbo. All applicants will be interviewed by a panel of Student Services staff.

10 10 Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco. On Kick Butts Day, teachers, youth leaders and health advocates organize events to: Raise awareness of the problem of tobacco use in their state or community; Encourage youth to reject the tobacco industry's deceptive marketing and stay tobacco-free; and Urge elected officials to take action to protect kids from tobacco. Kick Butts Day is organized by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. The first Kick Butts Day was held in 1996.

11 11 English Department News The English Department announces THE BILLIE AND CURTIS OWENS WRITING CONTEST! This is a writing contest with three categories: Poetry, Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction (Personal Narrative Essay). First, second, & third place will be awarded in each category, with cash prizes, on Honors Day. Students are welcome to make multiple submissions, but no more than three total submissions will be accepted from a single student. Students may submit in different categories. Submissions are due by Monday, March 21. Submissions should be sent electronically as.doc,.docx, or RTF attachments, to cindysalmons@alc.edu. Judging is done by the English Department. Questions? Contact the English Department, 150 JBAC, or Dr. Salmons. Additional Rules: -Students will place only once and only in one category, even if they submit to multiple categories. Thus, submitting three poems would only result in one poem placing; submitting two poems and a short story would mean the writer would only place in the poetry category or the short story category, not both. -Creative nonfiction essays should be personal, not research papers. -Fiction should be no more than double-spaced pages.
