1 Tel Website: Spring Term: No 8 2 March 2012 Mrs Joannides bids Farewell It s hard to believe that back in December 2004 I waved goodbye to my life and home in sunny South Africa with 23kg of luggage and now it s 2012 and I m waving goodbye to my life and home in the UK with a container of luggage and more importantly, a beautiful little family. Thank you to everyone at Tadworth Primary School for making this my home and family for the past 7 years. I have felt honoured to be part of such a fantastic staff and have thoroughly enjoyed teaching all the children! I will miss you all and will most definitely keep in touch and hope to see all of you who have promised to come out and visit us! Goodbye, Totsiens, Sala kakuhle Mrs Joannides Food Survey sees Sausage Plait as the Children s Favourite The most recent focus of Tadworth Primary School s Food Group was the popularity of the food we serve. The Food Group, made up of children from across the school (Yrs 2-6), meet termly with Miss Prophet and the Kitchen Team to help decide what to have on the menus. All of the children in school were surveyed before half term, asked whether they liked/did not like a list of the foods that are served (including vegetarian op ons and puddings). Not surprisingly, no meal came out with 100% of children liking it. The most popular, sausage plait, saw 80% of children giving it the thumbs up. The least popular was vegetable pasta bake. The outcome of the survey and the work of the Food Group has been very useful in informing the menus for the coming weeks which are available to view online you ll no ce that at this me, the vegetable pasta bake has been removed. The salad bar con nues to be available daily, enabling the children to add to/supplement their main meal with a selec on of other foods. There are jacket potatoes available most days or soup with a roll/bread for those children who do not like the main meal on offer. The ever popular paninis con nue to be enjoyed by Year 6 on Tuesday and Thursday. Our aim con nues to be to provide popular and nutri ous meals for the children whilst mee ng nutri onal guidelines. 2 The BIG PEDAL Starts on Monday 5 March The Big Pedal is a giant inter-school cycling competition spanning 15 school days in March (5-23 March 2012). It works a bit like the Tour de France in that each day of the race is a new stage following actual Sustrans cycle routes around the UK (details on the website) Tadworth Primary will once again be taking part and running its own inter class competition to see who can complete the course in the shortest time, alongside the whole school entering the local Reigate & Banstead challenge. Please therefore encourage your children to come to school on bikes and (for the first time in the competition) scooters, which are also included in the figures. Parents riding bikes can also be counted towards the mileage. Details will be recorded in school on the Big Pedal website and parents will be able to see how Tadworth is ge ing on from here Miss Smith PTA Springtime Fair Sat 24 March 11.00am-1.00pm inc a BBQ, Decorated Egg competition, Easter Bonnet Parade & Competition and other spring time activities Friday 23 March will be a mufti-day when children will be asked to bring in Sweets in a decorated jar (KS1) and an Easter Egg (KS2) More details to follow but please save the date in your diaries After School Football and Netball Matches On Thursday afternoon, after school had finished, some of our older children represented our school in a mini football tournament and a netball match against other local schools. All of the children showed great sportsmanship; they shook their opponent s hands and gave three cheers at the end of the matches. Eight Year 6 boys took part in the football matches and played really well. They didn t concede a goal! The first game was against Walton-on-the-Hill which Tadworth won 2-0, next they played Epsom Downs and won 2-0, finally they played Kingwood and won 4-0. Well done boys! At the same time two mixed teams of Y5/Y6 played a netball match against Kingswood. Tadworth had more players than Kingswood so we were split into two teams, each playing four quarters against the Kingswood team. The overall score was 15-1 to Tadworth. Well done everyone! Last week you saw a selection of photos highlighting some aspects of school enjoyed by the children. Parking Complaint from Killowen Close We have received a le er of complaint from a resident of Killowen Close, writing on behalf of all the residents of the road, to say that Tadworth parents are disregarding the fact that this is a private road, and using it to turn and even park in. Can parents please not use private local roads when dropping off and picking children up from Tadworth and may we ask that parents always show respect when approached by residents. JK Parent/Teacher Consultations Thursday 15 March pm Early closure 1.30pm Please remember to sign up for Parents Evening appointments. Our March parents evening is an important opportunity for teachers and parents to meet to discuss how the children are ge ing on. Sign up sheets will be available in the hall for all parents on Monday 5 & Tuesday 6 March from am and pm and therea er on the Front Reception Desk. If you are unable to sign up in person then appointments can also be made by phoning the office. In order that all parents have an opportunity to meet with their child s teacher, appointments will be 10 minutes. Follow up meetings can always be arranged with the teacher if you feel it necessary to do so. JK Every Thursday is Cake Day when classes or year groups are asked to bring in cakes to sell to the rest of the school in the hall. Children who want to have a cake need to bring in 20p a week.
