2 A word from our chairman... Welcome to the 6th Witney Beer Festival organized by Witney Round Table. I hope you enjoy participating today as much as we enjoy putting the event together. Thank you to everyone who has supported us in whatever way, big or small and in particular thank you to St Mary s Church for hosting us here today. All the money raised today goes to supporting good causes in Witney and the surrounding area including contributing to the upkeep of this magnificent building. Over the last few years the money raised has helped to weatherproof all but one of its major rooves, significantly improving the internal electrics and has enabled steeplejacks to survey the 156ft spire and carry out necessary maintenance. Please remember that none of this would be possible without the generous support of our sponsors. So, whilst you are drinking your beer, please look at the list of sponsors in this brochure and consider these company s service in the future let s keep our local businesses thriving! Witney Round Table is always looking for new members. The next big event we will be involved in is Witney Carnival in July. If you re interested in getting involved, experiencing new activities, helping your community and making new friends, today is the perfect opportunity to grab a beer and have a chat with one of us. Thank you for coming today.
3 A word from the Rev... As the Rector of Witney I am delighted to welcome you to the 2017 Witney Beer Festival here in St Mary s Church. It is a great tradition that is developing as we welcome people into Witney s parish church, which has been the centre of our community for many centuries. People come to this space from all walks of life to share fellowship and build community. Just by being here you are supporting this ancient building that stretches back to 1243, and indeed to the earlier church on this site. We don t receive any government funding for the upkeep of this building - it is down to us, the people of Witney. In just over a weeks time, scaffolding will go up at the East end to renew the fourth and final roof. As part of this the monies from the 2016 festival are helping to put in a new lighting scheme - we look forward to welcoming you back to enjoy this. Do come and find me if you d like to know more about how you can support what is going on. One of the earliest opportunities to enjoy the renewed work will be at our first Octoberfest on Saturday 7 October 2017 from midday when we shall be serving beer and sausages - do come back and enjoy this historic space as we help to ensure it is here for centuries to come.
