3 FROM THE PRESIDENTS PEN I have just returned from Wellington and the RNZRSA Annual Conference and the fantastic Wellington weather (Rain Wind- and Earthquakes sorry, with a little sun thrown in). Yes! It was my first experience of an Earthquake with the swinging of the lights and a little bit of a ground shake. This happened twice; once during the meeting then later on that evening. The later was after a few liquid refreshments, so I cannot swear to the later earthquake actually happening. The Conference was attended by 247 financial members of RSA s throughout New Zealand, from Kaitaia to the Bluff. The Conference commenced on Tuesday at 10.00am and ran through to Wednesday 3.30pm. The agenda covered the 2017 s AGM, Remits, Constitutional matters, Presentation by the Minister of Defence and Veterans (Hon. Ron Marks) followed by Head of Veterans Affairs, Remembrance presentation, Marketing, Support Services and finally presentations to various members. In the next Newsletter I will expand on the above items more fully. One item of significance at the Conference was the awarding of three RNZRSA Badges in Gold (this is the highest Award that the RSA awards) the recipients of this prestigious award were: HRH Prince Harry Duke of Sussex Mr. D Arcy Bailey Whangarei RSA and Mr. Desmond Wallace Seatoun RSA. Congratulations to those recipients. Please members, remember that starting on the 5 th November 2018, the Whangarei RSA will be opening 6 days a week. These Crosses will be placed in front of our Whangarei District War Memorial in Laurie Hall Park. The placing of the crosses will be carried out by local School children and Groups from around Whangarei. Please attend and give encouragement to these Children. At the same time I would like to remind you of the 11 th November This is the 100 th commemoration of Armistice Day. Assembly of the parade will commence at 10.10am in Laurie Hall Park beside the three storey buildings and will then march around to in front of the cenotaph. At the conclusion of the Commemoration there will be a display of Artillery from the WW1 and WW2 in our clubrooms. Please come along and view this display that is being provided by the local Artillery Club. 6 NOTICES CONTINUED ARMISTICE DAY SUNDAY 11 NOVEMBER 2018 The Whangarei Returned and Service Association (Inc.) will be holding a Civic Commemoration Service at the Laurie Hall Park Cenotaph on Sunday 11 th November Assemble at 1010hrs. The Service commences at 1040hrs. A warm welcome is extended to the Citizens of Whangarei, all Returned and Service personnel, and any other individuals or organisations that wish to take part. Wreaths will be laid by the Local Member of Parliament, Her Worship the Mayor and the Whangarei Returned and Services Association (Inc.). Anyone else may place a wreath during the course of the ceremony if they so wish. A copy of the Order of Service follows the monthly evens calendar.
