2 This group pack has been designed to provide you with all the information you need to plan your visit. Alongside the essential access and site information, we have offered options to make your visit that little bit more special. Why not book an additional tour and have a sneak peek behind the scenes? Catering is a large part of any group visit. Our catering options have been designed to offer a variety of choices. Pre-booking catering is strongly advised. Our tea-room can get very busy as it is outside of the pay barrier our pre-booked options offer an easy solution. You will have exclusive use of our function room, with table service, at a time of your choice with the ability to sit together as a group and enjoy your food without having to queue. 3 Introduction to Tredegar House & Park Tredegar House is one of the architectural wonders of Wales and one of the most significant late seventeenth century houses in the whole of the British Isles. For over five hundred years it was the home to one of the greatest Welsh families, the Morgan s, later Lords Tredegar. Whilst parts of the House date back to medieval times, most of what you see today was built between 1664 and 1672, when most of the House was completely rebuilt and an additional wing was designed as the principal façade. The Morgan family owned over 40,000 acres in Monmouthshire, Breconshire andglamorgan by the endo fothe 18th Century. Their lives impacted on the population of south east Wales socially, economically and politically and influenced the heritageof the area. The basic mediaeval garden plan survives on two sides of the House in a series of walled gardens, originally laid out to complement and enhance the House. Altered and replanted between 1782 and 1801 with trees and shrubs introduced from America and this is essentially what survives today. An early eighteenth century Orangery Garden has been recreated from surviving documentary and archaeological evidence.

4 A suggested itinerary for a day at Tredegar House and Park Please note this is only a suggested format for your group visit, and we are happy to discuss your individual requirements am 11.15am 11.30am 12.00noon 1.30pm 2.30pm 3.15pm Arrive at Tredegar House. A member of staff from Visitor Reception will greet your group on the coach, arrange payment, scan National Trust membership cards and obtain tickets. The shop and tearooms open from 10.30am so why not pop into the shop and pick up a gift or souvenir. Remember to use the 10% voucher for a 10 spend. Don t worry you don t have to carry purchases around with you, the shop team will look after them for you. Wander through the Orchard and Cedar gardens, not missing out the Orangery with its stunning mineral parterre Enter the house, relax and reflect in the grand 17 th century ground floor rooms, uncover Morgan family stories in the 1930s upstairs and then experience life below stairs. Relax in the function room and enjoy your pre-booked catering with complimentary tea and coffee. Once you are refreshed, why not take a stroll over to the lake in our parkland, where a variety of wildlife can be seen. Pick up those purchases from the shop (and even treat yourself to a lasting souvenir) It is always good to remember that your entrance ticket is valid all day so you can visit the house and gardens throughout the day. The Visitor Reception team will always let you know of any special activities happening on the day of your visit so you can make the most of your time at Tredegar House and Park

5 Essential information for planning your day How to Find Us Tredegar House is just two miles west of Newport Town Centre and 12 miles from the centre of Cardiff; located two minutes from M4 Junction 28. On leaving the junction take the A48 road to Cardiff, following the brown heritage signs to Tredegar House which is close by. Parking There is a large car park close to the Visitor Reception Centre entrance. It should be noted that Pay & Display Car Parking is in operation, up to 1 hr 1, up to 4 hrs 2, over 4 hrs 5. Parking for coaches and National Trust members is free of charge. If you are a National Trust member, please ensure that your car parking sticker is visible in your windscreen. Opening Times The House and Gardens are open daily at a.m. - 4p.m. from 18th February to 31st March and daily from a.m. - 5 p.m. from 1st April to 29th October Please note group bookings are not accepted on Bank Holiday weekends Admission Charges We are happy to offer a discounted rate for groups of 7.20 each for adult entry into the House and Garden, and 3.60 for child entry. To qualify, groups must book ahead, consist of 10 people or more (whether National Trust members or not) and pay in one transaction. National Trust members will be admitted free on production of their valid membership card. Group Leaders We want your welcome and entry to the House to be as positive and swift as possible and would ask the following to ensure your groups reception goes smoothly: Please can group leaders phone on the morning of the visit to confirm numbers of payers and numbers of National Trust members in the group and your estimated arrival time. Duration of the Visit We recommend that you allow 3 hours for your visit to the property. We don t want you to rush your visit as there is so much for you to see and do Gift Shop The Gift Shop sells a wide variety of souvenirs, gifts, books, and a selection of locally sourced gifts and foods. It is located within the Brewhouse Tearoom building.

6 Access We make every effort to try to ensure that all our visitors have an enjoyable and memorable visit to Tredegar House. Due to the nature and age of the building, there may be areas that are inaccessible. Our team will be happy to discuss any access arrangements with you at booking stage. Car Parking Dedicated blue badge parking is located in the car park near the entrance to the Visitor Centre Reception. Two wheelchairs are available for use by visitors. It is advisable to contact us in advance to reserve their use. The front of the House is located approx 780m from the Car Park. Visitors with mobility issues can take the quicker route from the car park to the back door of the house which is only 164m. For those Groups travelling by car, there is a car park charge; up to 1 hr 1, up to 4 hrs 2, over 4 hrs 5. Gift Shop and Brewhouse Tearoom The Gift Shop and Tearoom are fully accessible. Park and Gardens Please be aware that although the Park is accessible, some areas are woodland with uneven terrain. Assistance Dogs All assistance dogs are welcome throughout the site including in the House. Toilets There are suitably adapted toilet facilities opposite the House, the Brewhouse Cafe and at the Park Cafe. These are all accessible with a Radar Key. Tredegar House There is disabled access to the below stairs and ground floor areas of the house. Access to the first floor may be limited for some visitors with mobility difficulties, as it is accessed by several flights of stairs. It is recommended that visitors with mobility difficulties contact us prior to their visit.

7 Guided Tours 2017/18. We are pleased to be able to offer pre-booked groups the option of a themed guided tour; these are run by our experience tour guides and must be booked in advance. The Morgan Dynasty Enjoy a private tour of our state rooms before our doors open to the general public. Meet some of the key family members who influenced the development of the Morgan Dynasty and the marks they left on their family seat, Tredegar House. Please note this tour can only be booked for a 10.30am start. Where Walls Can Talk Join our knowledgeable guides on a journey through the development of this renowned country house. Follow the clues in the fabric of the building to uncover the story of the Morgan family and their home from the House s Tudor origins to its seventeenth century opulence and learn about the challenges the National Trust faces in looking after the house today. Please note this tour can only be booked for a 12pm or 2pm start. Informal Formal Gardens Join one of our enthusiastic expert gardeners on a fascinating tour of the three very different and characterful walled gardens at Tredegar House. Find out about the history of the gardens, see the horticultural highlights of the season and discover our plans to uncover the stories of these wonderfully informal formal gardens. Tour cost 5 per person (must be pre-booked) in addition to entrance fee Group size: minimum 10 - up to 25 large groups can be split.availability Mar to Oct Duration 45 minutes Time *10:30 a.m. 12 noon or 2 p.m. (*Please contact the Property Administrator to request tours outside of these times) All groups will be given an introductory talk when they arrive. This talk will last no more than 10 minutes and will include a brief history of the house and then information to orientate you on your visit. The above guided tours are your chance to learn that little bit more about specific eras within the history of Tredegar House.

8 Catering Requirements We appreciate that organising catering for group bookings can be a hard task. Therefore we have hopefully helped to ease the load by creating a range of options specifically made for group bookings. These options are all served in a room exclusively for your group with table service ensuring you are all seated together. They also ensure that your group will receive smooth and efficient service, be seated together and with no need to queue. Please note that use of the Morgan Room for group booking refreshments cannot be guaranteed so please confirm your requirements as soon as you are able. We highly recommend booking one of the below options. Our tearoom is outside of the pay barrier so is extremely busy. Please be aware if you do not pre-book catering, then we cannot guarantee that the full tearoom menu will be available (especially hot meals), your group will have to queue individually and seating may not be available. Please note all lunch options include freshly brewed tea, filtered coffee and water, if not stated. Please can all groups choose one option from the following selection: Option 1: Tea and coffee on arrival with a homemade shortbread biscuit per person This price reflects one serving with a top-up of tea or coffee Option 2a: Afternoon cream tea ( 4.50 per person) or Option 2b: Tredegar House tea ( 5.50 per person) Fresh fruit scone, butter, jam and Rodda s clotted cream served with freshly brewed tea or coffee OR Bara brith, Welshcake, jam and butter served with freshly brewed tea or coffee The afternoon cream tea is also available as a gluten free option Option 3: Soup and a sandwich lunch per person Enjoy a bowl of warming soup (soup is always vegetarian) with a freshly made sandwich on brown or white bloomer bread. Please note, this option is available gluten free Sandwich fillings: Cheddar cheese with red onion chutney Free range egg mayonnaise with cress Home-baked ham with salad Option 4: Two or three course lunch (two courses) (three courses) Enjoy our two course lunch using local and seasonal Welsh ingredients. Starter: Seasonal vegetable soup served with a fresh bread roll Welsh rarebit served with mixed leaves Main: Traditional Welsh lamb cawl served with a fresh bread roll & Caerphilly cheese Macaroni with Caerphilly cheese and leeks served with a side salad Warm Welsh goat s cheese and seasonal vegetable tart served with fresh bread roll and side salad Dessert: Syrup sponge pudding served with ice-cream or cream Rich chocolate sponge pudding served with ice-cream or cream Option 5: Freshly prepared buffet lunch per person Enjoy a freshly prepared buffet lunch consisting of homemade quiche, mixed salads, sliced, home-baked ham and a selection of breads. 9 Making a booking for your group visit Follow these simple steps to get your group booked in with the minimum of fuss: Call us before completing your booking form to check that your chosen date is available. Once you ve spoken to us and settled on a date, please complete the enclosed booking form and return it to us by or post. When we receive your booking form we'll consider the booking confirmed and enter your details into our booking system. It's often difficult for you to get accurate group numbers a long time in advance of your visit. We therefore ask that you contact us two weeks before your visit, to confirm your final number of total visitors including the number of National Trust members. This allows us to welcome you quickly and efficiently and significantly reduces the time you have to spend waiting at reception. We always want feedback on group visits, what went well and if there are any improvements we can make. Therefore, after your visit we would be very grateful if you could complete and return the feedback form which is attached at the end of this information pack. Altering or cancelling your booking In the unfortunate event that you need to cancel a booking, or if there are any changes to the details of your booking, please let us and the restaurant know as soon as possible. In case of a delay in arrival, you can call our visitor reception team directly on the morning of your visit from a.m. on or the office on
