2 London Club The year was 1875 when a club for professional men of London was first proposed. London s population at that time was around 30,000. The beginning, for what became The London Club started in an area locals referred to as Whisky Row on King Street across from the Covent Garden Market. The streets were lit, except on moonlight nights with gas-lamps and sidewalks, where provided, were made of wood. In 1879, following application, a Charter was issued from Queen s Park to nine named individuals to incorporate The London Club. Its first president was Daniel Macfie, shares were sold at $50.00 each. With its list of sixty-two members in 1882, The London Club was settled in a Queen Anne Style building located on Queens Ave. As the city grew, the club did as well. Walk up buildings slowly became high rises and vehicles became a necessity for most, however, the Club has kept its original style. The growth and development of the club has had its ups and downs but with its ability to persevere and overcome it all states a great deal about its character, in addition to the city in which its found. In 1931 a ladies membership was created for wives and daughters of current members. The ladies were entitled to a tea and a small order of toast without charge. Ladies were only allowed in the badminton area (Squash court) and restricted from the main club. It wasn t until Women were able to become members in their own right. With over 130 years, the Club members can sit back, dine and relax while reminiscing over the history they all have experienced in and around the London Club, the club we all call home. John Allen Taylor Lounge This lounge is named after John Allen Taylor who was a President of the club in What is now a casual dining area was formally a squash court. With flat screen TV you are able to enjoy every type of sporting event and enjoy a cold one before heading to the Budweiser Gardens for a hockey or basketball game. Formal Dining Room Located at the front of the club, you are able to dine at the bay window or next to a comfortable fire place. This dining area can be used for special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays or a get together with family and friends. Wine Cellar The London Club easily boasts the largest selection of labels in the Forest City. Over 235 wines are available and offers lower prices than any restaurant and we are fortunate to be able to pass these saving on to our valued members. Business Centre With wireless internet and a private phone line you are able to conduct any type of business you need. This room is great for small meetings or a quite work space and we will give the resources you need upon request. Corporate Membership Three or more executives, partners or associates of a corporation, partnership or proprietorship which has a place of business within a radius of 70 km of the Club may apply for a Corporate Membership. The Corporation must designate one of its members to be the Corporate Individual Member, who has voting privileges. The other members will be designated Corporate Associate Members with no voting privileges. Each applicant for Corporate Membership, including Corporate Associate Members and Corporate Individual Members shall require Board approval. Dues & Payments: Initiation fee for Original Members: $1,000 per member Monthly Membership Fee for 3 Members: $275 4th Member Monthly Fee: $125 5th and additional Members: $100 per member Quarterly Minimum: $200 per member Monthly Capital Dues: $10 per member Membership Replacement Fee: $150 Transfer from Individual to Corporate: $150 per member 1. A replacement fee applies for member changes as a result of death, resignation or transfer. The initiation fee does not apply. 2. Monthly dues are charged to the account of the Corporate Individual Member. Regular charges are billed to each member. 3. Members of a corporation may choose to remain as Individual Members, even if a Corporate Membership exists. 4. For greater clarity, a Corporate Associate Member and a Corporate Individual Member may only remain as such with consent of the Corporate Member and while he or she is actively employed by or associated with such Corporate Member. 5. Spouses of Corporate Associate Members and Corporate Individual Members shall have the same privileges and obligations as Resident Spouse Members so long as their respective spouse is a Member of the Club but shall not be eligible for Legacy Membership. 6 7
