Both are cool climates and Tasmania certainly matches their New Zealand counterparts. Heartland have done a great job on blending Viognier and Pinot Gris which is a point of difference and with great texture makes an ideal food wine. Margaret River is not well known for Riesling but this wine shows they can deliver the goods with this variety as well. There are also a couple of hardonnays, one with a couple of year s bottle development, compare the two and see which you prefer. 2 normal price per bottle SAVE exclusive Kettle Lane Tasmanian Sauvignon Blanc 2009 Tasmania s first vineyard was planted in 1823 at Prospect Farm in New Town, second in Australia only to those established by the early colonists in Sydney. However by the late 1800 s all Tasmania s vineyards had been removed and replaced with apple orchards. It wasn t until 1956 when grapevines were again planted in Tasmania. As Australian tastes shifted from fortified to table wines Tasmania s wine industry established itself and expanded into the commercial success we see today. Region: Tasmania. olour: Pale straw. Bouquet: Aromas of passionfruit with underlying minerals. Palate: The palate has superb weight dominated by passionfruit fl avours. Riesling 2008 The complementary relationship between one of the world s rarest gourmet foods and fine Australian wines was behind Wine & Truffle o. s drive to grow and produce great wines that could sit comfortably alongside their gourmet truffles in the best restaurants. In 1998, the Wine & Truffle o planted 30 acres of wine grapes alongside 50 acres of fungus- infected hazel and oak trees in a magnificent valley of rich karri soils on the Pemberton side of Manjimup. 5 normal price per bottle SAVE ommissioners Block hardonnay 2006 The name ommissioners Block comes from an incident involving the company s Founder in Eager to expand the fl ourishing family wine business, an ideal place was spotted for the wine cellars next to the Melbourne to Mildura railway line. Foiled by the local railway offi cials in his attempts to lease the land, the founder went straight to the hairman of Railway ommissioners in Melbourne. As his diary relates, After quite a friendly all-round talk he told the Engineer to let me have it. Region: Mildura, Victoria. olour: Straw. Bouquet: Aromas of peach and tropical fruits. Palate: A soft palate of succulent stone fruit and tropical fl avours. The fi nish is clean making for easy drinking. ellar: Drinking beautifully now. Food match: Vietnamese pancakes. 6 normal price per bottle SAVE Pepperton Estate Goodwyn hardonnay 2008 Despite extreme changes in weather conditions, the fruit quality obtained from the 2008 vintage was very good. With above average rainfall in January, most of which fell in the latter part of the month, and all the rainfall for February at the beginning of the month was cause for concern amongst growers and winemakers. The vintage commenced on the 31st of January (one of the earliest vintages encountered in the region) with early ripening white varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon to avoid any incidence of disease and ensure the fruit was in its best condition. Region: South Eastern Australia. olour: Medium straw. Bouquet: Stone fruits dominated by white peach. Palate: The palate is soft and creamy. Stone fruits intermingle with French oak and draw out into a persistent fi nish. ellar: Drinking beautifully now. Food match: Wood fi re duck pizza with hoi sin sauce. 7 normal price per bottle SAVE Shagger s Sauvignon Blanc 2008 Shagger s Station is a vibrant vineyard at the edge of the Marlborough Plains. For years it was an isolated sheep station, home to a lonely old shepherd Jimmy Shagger Shaw and some nervous sheep. It was known by the locals as Shagger s where the men are men and the sheep are scared. hard Farm, producers of Rabbit Ranch (renowned for premium Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir), created this wine from a limited amount of fruit. This fi rst vintage is everything a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc should be fruity, fresh and lively. Region: Marlborough, New Zealand. olour: Pale straw. Bouquet: Tropical fruit aromas dominated by passionfruit. Palate: This fragrant and fruit driven wine has a light, crisp palate of fresh passionfruit with a crisp acid fi nish. ellar: Drinking beautifully now. Food match: Beer battered fi sh and chips.
