SENI GEMS A GUIDE TO SUPPTING FAMILY MEMBERS WITH DEMENTIA On Monday, June 11 th at 1 p.m., Sharon Trio of Senior Helpers will be here to offer a presentation on Senior Gems A Guide to Supporting Family Members with Dementia. The Senior Gems is a classification system using gems to compare the different stages of dementia. The gems are used as a metaphor to define normal aging and the many appearances, behavior changes, skill sets and needs of those living with the effects of neurocognitive failure (dementia) or other brain changes. These gem categories from Sapphires to Pearls, enable trained caregivers to assess, prepare, and engage with seniors who exhibit the symptoms of dementia. FATHER S DAY CELEBRATION The Center will be honoring all or the fathers at our Father s Day Celebration on Thursday, June 14 th. The celebration will include favors for all the gentlemen in attendance, delicious apple pie for dessert, and musical entertainment by the Philadelphia Mainline Ukulele Group at 1 p.m. Mark your calendars and celebrate Father s Day with us! LSVT BIG HOPE F PEOPLE WITH PARKINSON S DISEASE AND OTHER NEUROLOGICAL DISDERS LSVT BIG is an exercise treatment program for people with Parkinson s disease. It is based on the principle that the brain can learn and change. Join us on Tuesday, June 19 th at 1 p.m. when Monica Hallman of Mishock Physical Therapy will explain how LSVT BIG has been shown to enhance functional movements that include faster walking with bigger steps, better balance and increased daily function. You will also learn about the standardized exercise prescription that promotes strength, motor learning and changes in brain function. SHUFFLEBOARD TOURNAMENT AT NIGHT Recruit a partner and sign up in advance for The Center s first evening Shuffleboard Tournament on Tuesday, June 26 th beginning at 5:30 p.m. Don t have a partner - no problem, we ll find you one! The doors will open at 4 p.m. with our kitchen open with refreshments available for purchase. We offer hamburgers, hot dogs, soup, snacks and desserts. Shuffleboard players are asked to enjoy their food upstairs in the Craft Room. The Shuffleboard Tournament will begin at 5:30 p.m. There is no charge for this event. 5 THE CENTER AT SPRING STREET BUS TRIP SCHEDULE The Center at Spring Street bus trips are open to anyone age 55 and over; Center membership is not required. All bus trips depart from The Gilbertsville Shopping Center unless specified otherwise. A $5 (five dollars) deposit will reserve your seat. Final payments must be made by designated date. We reserve the right to fill the reservation if final payment is not made on time. All trips are open for sign-up now.
