2 HOPEWELL MOOSE FAMILY CENTER #1472 Governor s Message Our summer is off with a bang. We ve had some great events, picnics, activities for the younger and older members and we have much more to come. We have enjoyed Memorial Day and 4th of July picnics, access to Appomattox Boat Harbor Pool, routinely great Valued Veterans activities, Books to Brushes activities, Friday Night Bands, and Kids Movie Nights just to name a few. Coming up we have our annual Labor Day Picnic, more youth & senior activities, more lodge updates, and renovations for consideration. Like what we are doing? Let us hear it. Want something different? Let us hear it. Our lodge is growing and we want to continue to make it a more enjoyable place for all of us. Not every event is for everyone, but the idea is that everyone will find plenty to enjoy. Want to see more or different activities? Come to a meeting and let your voice be heard. Lastly, our home is more enjoyable when we share it with those we enjoy being around. If you like our Lodge, share it. When is the last time you ve invited a friend or family member to enjoy it too? Fraternally, Brian Carpenter Governor Hopewell Moose Family Center 1472 Women of the Moose Senior Regent Another successful month with many exciting events for our chapter co-workers and the Lodge! I would like to thank all co-workers for all of their support in all of our endeavors. The WOTM was well-represented at this year's Moose International Convention in New Orleans, LA. Many of our own collegents were present to witness Dawn Ozmore receive her College of Regent Degree! This was a well-earned honor to be bestowed upon such a deserving candidate and a valuable co-worker of our chapter. Our Community Outreach Project, "Books and Brushes", was well-received by member's children and the local community. There were seventeen children between the ages of 4-12 present for the launch of this joint effort between our women and men. Please encourage children you know to attend this worthwhile program. We are hoping to grow with each month's event. A huge thank you goes to Dawn Ozmore for her efforts, talents and hard work on this project. Women of the Moose extends an invitation to all new members for the months of May, June and July to please come to a Meet and Greet on Wednesday, August 29th. We hope to see as many co-workers as possible at the VMA State Convention to be held in Roanoke, VA, August 23-26, Thanks for all that you do, Gloria Olinger Senior Regent "I invite everyone to choose forgiveness rather than division, teamwork over personal ambition." --Jean Francis Cope"None of us is as smart as all of us." - Ken Blanchard 2

3 ADMINISTRATOR MESSAGE We have been very fortunate with the installation of 9 gaming systems in the social quarters. These have provided the pleasure of winning and the agony of defeat. It s also provided some great conversations and laughs along the way. As more members have gained interest in playing the games, we ask ALL to render these courtesies: Please do not hover behind players. Sign up on the board to play and remember to check the progress. If you are done playing, please leave your seat. Do not discuss other players winnings. MEMBERS ONLY are allowed to play. We have installed an ATM in the game room, for everyone s convenience. Thank you for your help with this and remember; as you are playing the games, a percentage of the proceeds, goes to our charitable donations!! So, THANK YOU!! Brad Ozmore, Administrator From the Prelates Corner I want to take a moment and reflect on one of the visions of the Moose Fraternity. That is Moosehaven, a place where a community has been built, a place where the seniors can reside in safety. However, this place wasn t built overnight, & it wasn t built just magically. This took dedication of time, money, material and most of all a vision for those in need. That same vision needs to continue in our lodge, a vision to help those in need, I am thinking of those that are elderly in the later stages of life. There are several in our lodge, I implore you to find someone that is in need, find someone that you can help, do what YOU can do to help. We can t solve everyone s problems but collectively we can have an impact on those that are around us. James 1:27 teaches us that pure religion is to visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction and while doing so keep ourselves above reproach. Take time this month to help those that cannot help themselves. Sunshine Chairman WOTM: Please contact Kathy Froehlich, to report an illness or death. PASSED Gloria Anderson - had two family members who passed Linda Warren - Husband Marsha Gray - Mother Donna Albanese - Mother Toni Albanese - Grandmother Sickness Marie Matltock ILLNESS/INJURY Marie Matlock THINKING OF YOU Please keep these families and all our coworkers in your prayers. Sick: Warren family: Donald passed in a house fire, Linda heart attack. Rodger Donner - Injury LOOM: Please contact the office to report an illness or death of a Brother or Family Robert Stamper, Prelate 3

4 The Valued Veterans Program was delighted to have Jay Paul, a Prince George lawyer as our guest speaker in July. He gave a wonderful presentation on Living Wills, Wills, Durable Power of Attorney and General Power of Attorney. Thanks to all veterans who came out to hear this wonderful presentation. In August we will be recognizing our veterans by displaying their name on a star in our Social Quarters. September activity is being planned for a local Financial Advisor to speak to our group. Watch for details on the lodge Facebook page. If you are a veteran and have not signed up for the Valued Veterans Program, please call the office ( ) and give Mary or Kathy your name and Moose ID number and they will be glad to assist you. Jack Olinger Valued Veterans Chairman We had a GREAT turnout for our very first Books & Brushes program, held June 23rd in the pool house resource center, A total of 17 children, both boys and girls ranging in ages from 4-12 years participated. This is a joint initiative with the men and women of the lodge to help promote literacy & creativity within our struggling community. This outreach program is open to the community, with no cost to participate. Each month, the children will read along with a chosen book, then have a group snack before jumping in to create the art project that coincides with the book. Each child will also receive a take -home copy of the book that was read. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged, so that we can make sure enough books are pre-ordered prior to the event. D.M. Ozmore Chairman 4
